  1. Wow! You’re doing great! Pack looks awesome, and the gaskets your wife is making look great too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Looking pretty pretty good so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I’m happy to help. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of what I have done without others who have helped me, so I firmly believe in paying it forward by helping anyone else that needs it. That’s why I’m also an advisor in my garrison’s academy. I love helping the new people get their costumes built so they can join. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Okie dokie. Here are photos of all the measurements you asked for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I finally had the chance to get my hands on an MLC pack last weekend. It’s very very tiny. I’m getting measurements now, and will actually provide photos. I’ll even use the metric side of the measuring tape, so you can skip the step of having to convert. I will want you, my pack is big for me. Based on your height, it may be perfect for you. Fortunately, the crl does not specify measurements, so I was able to pass based on that. I really flew by the seat of my pants throughout this whole build, and literally guessed at all the measurements as I was making it. So I make no claims that these are what they should be. For example, I found random circular shaped objects in my garage that looked proportionate to use as stencils for the holes on the domes. So, enough chit chatting. I’m going to go measure and take photos and post them in the next comment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. No worries. You aren’t bugging me at all. I love helping others with their builds. The pipe in the photo is a 1-1/4” pvc pipe. The next piece that will slide into it for the “handles” is a 1” piece. I will have to unpack the pack to get more measurements. What central piece are you referring to? So that I measure the right piece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. The SGB helmet does require a lot of filling and sanding. I didn’t realize just how much until I went to paint mine. Once you get that all done, it ends up being one of the better looking flametrooper helmets available. I know Curtis Renninger found one that was just slightly smaller; big enough to look the proper size, but just small enough to allow for some movement without it always banging on the tanks and back armor. I can’t remember where he got it from though. I’m going to have some measurements for pack frame coming your way later today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. This is a fun one to build, with its own challenges. Read through all the build threads and ask lots of questions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. By the time I was done building my pack, it cost more than it would have to have bought a pack from MLC or 850, and it's super heavy. Plus the tubes I used for the tanks are HDPE plastic, which does not like to be painted. Everything else was abs and pvc. If you use something other than the bollard covers that I used for the tanks, it will probably be less expensive. I also suck at painting, so I spent way too much money on paint. All that said, it was a real fun adventure, and I certainly am proud of my accomplishment. Just be prepared for the amount of time it will take. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Hi Knowlan! Welcome aboard! I'm a little late in jumping on the wagon to welcome ya', but better late than never. The flametrooper is a pretty cool costume to build. Like Torri mentioned, check out the build threads and the Facebook groups. There are two of them to check out. Presently, KB Props and 850 Armorworks are the only two makers of the flametrooper armor. It is a pricier kit than others, but it's also one of the most unique and rare ones. Since you are only 16, you have plenty of time to work on this, so don't be discouraged about having to wait a little bit to save up the dough to buy the kit. Join the Facebook groups awhile, because you never know when someone who bought a kit may change their mind on their build, and decide to sell their armor for a little less. 12. I have no skin in this game, but after reading through this thread, I feel like putting on the chef's hat and doing some pot stirring. I want to make sure I understand something. A CRL for a costume was made, the LMO approved it, and thus, it became an officially approvable costume in the legion. One person, or a group of people woke up one day, found that someone pissed in their Cheerios, and decided to make a stink to have the CRL removed from the legion? I get the concerns. If the official channels to create a CRL were mistakenly overlooked, it does set a precedent that needs to be addressed. BUT, if it made it through all the checks and balances, and nobody noticed the error before approving it, then I say too bad so sad. Publicly address that an error was made, and make it known that it will not set a precedent, and going forward, any crl's pending approval by the LMO will still be judged based on the way it's supposed to be done. Honestly, if you look through all of the approved crl's that the legion has, there are many that are of such obscure characters that it's highly doubtful any of the kids that we are trying to make smile at events even know who they are. We got one which is a woman with a stupid box on her head. Seriously, I'm pretty sure that the amount of research that went into this CRL would show that great care was taken to make sure a quality costume that fits in line with the intent of the legion's costuming standards was created. Another question is, since a CRL was approved, and I'm sure there are a few people that have already spent money on parts, in good faith that the costume they were purchased for was going to be approvable based on a now existing CRL, is every single person that cried to get their way going to reimburse folks for the items that they cannot now use for whatever different costume they will have to make? The legion boasts about having screen accurate costumes, yet has many costumes that never existed on a tv screen (whether it be video games, or movies). If there is visual reference to a character in a comic book, it's still not screen accurate, because it never existed in screen. So, if we are going to make costumes that don't really exist on screen, then what's the big deal with this one? Again, I have no stake in this, as this is a costume I'm not making, but it kinda sucks that people spent a lot of time and effort into R&D for this costume, and got it approved by the LMO, just to have someone spit in their faces and find some way to get it yanked. And it also sucks to know that there are probably people who are now out of money because of this debacle. Again, there is a way to acknowledge that a mistake was made, and make it clear that that same mistake will not be permitted to fly in the future, and leave the CRL as is until any new information becomes available to update the CRL with proper references material, should that ever even happen. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, but some folks just like to suck the fun out of things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Welcome aboard! You've come to the right place for help with your flametrooper. I'm drawing a blank on all of the available vendors for this costume (I could tell you everyone I used, but there are other options). You may have to read through the other build threads. I will tell you that most of the vendors can be easily contacted via Facebook. There is a flametrooper builder page in Facebook as well (FO FT Builders). Keep in mind that on a Facebook page, not everyone there is seeking 501st approval, so if you post there, you should still come back here to the detachment to verify everything before spending money. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. We're all here to help each other. You will find, though, that if a response to a question n is taking awhile, you may be able to find your answers in someone else's build thread. I would highly recommend reading through other threads first to help you get an idea on some kind of game plan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Welcome! The flametrooper is a pretty awesome looking costume when it's all done. It can be a fun build too. Be sure to check out all of the build threads, and ask questions. There's only a few of us, but we look out and try to help when needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Good question. I lost track after awhile. It very likely cost me more to build it myself than it would have cost to buy the MLC pack. I built it with zero experience or skill with prop making. So what it cost me may or may not be a good gauge on what it would cost, on average, to make it yourself. This is because of making mistakes and having to buy stuff; not shopping around for better prices (I bought A LOT of abs in different sizes from amazon); and things like that. In retrospect, the plastic bollard covers that I made the tanks out of may not have been the best purchase. I bought so much paint that I probably should purchase stock in Krylon. Typically, it probably shouldn't take as much paint as I used, but again, lack of skill and experience causes expenses to go up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
