USMC03 TX build

Recommended Posts

Hi, so I started "trimming" tonight. Started on the TD caps, shoulder straps and hand guards. I'm building a WTF kit and am going to have a lot of questions.

For the shoulder straps, are they flush with no return edges on the bottom? I'm trying to attach photos but am not savvy with the forums yet. I can't attach from phone as pictures are too big. I also have question in dimensions of the TD caps and the cover.

Thanks, I'm going to have a lot. Just from trying on parts and seeing what goes where, I will have to trim the thighs a bit as they are a bit long.

Hey Lance,

Google sort of messed this up for everyone with the switch from picasa to google photo with how it handles images. Your best bet would be to upload your photos to a site like photobucket or imgur. They give you direct links to your photos which you can put in-between the photo tags on the forum like this:

We also have that little image icon in the header bar which you can click on, paste the link, and hit OK. It will add the tag for you.

I have worked on a few pieces over the past few weeks. Today we glued/shimmed front of thighs and calves. Last week was just basic trimming.

This is from today. The bench sander was a huge time saver but had the potential to create irreversible mistakes. Came a little close to sanding too much off the shins. Lesson learned.

And the remove the return edge off that 4 button ab plate on the right. Kylorich helped me out and im correcting mine now but should be flat and about 20mm x 75mm long.

BTW, Love the Walts TeeShirt!!

Very nice work. You can reduce the return edge on the hand plates.

Ok, I wasn't quite sure how low to go. I trimmed quite a bit off them already. Will sand more next work session.

Hmmm, the guy who was helping me glued it already. The bigger one I have to sand a lot still. I'm using e6000 so it should be able to be removed I'm hoping.

Going back to the picture, that was pretty sanding so it should be good then.

So I'm not the most diligent at taking pictures. We got the thighs and shins glued completely. Just need to complete the shin enclosure system.

Started getting a strapping system made. And have started trimming arm parts.

Next build day will be next Friday.

Fun fun! For trimming I found that I could use a very sharp #11 Exacto knife and with a very steady hand just freehand and score the armor once around return edges then they snap quite easily creating a quite clean edge.

finally with a small bit of sanding got a perfect edge.

Speeds up the process and hope this helps.

Yeah, the sanding is definitely an acquired skill. I've been doing pretty good with the exacto knife though. Got plenty of blades. My problem is I have hard time with straight lines. I'm like Charlie Brown with a pen.

Ya, I'm not good with straight lines either. I usually double or triple taped the line I wanted to cut with painters tape and then tried to stick to it's edge.

Never thought of that. Most of my big cuts are all done. It's all fine trimming and sanding for the most part.
