Specialist Chest Ammo Pouches - WIP

Recommended Posts

I got tired of over priced, not the right color, or too much to modify to be screen accurate Specialist chest ammo pouches! So .... I'm making my own. If it turns out ok I'll post up my patterns and supplies.

I'll post up the patterns and supplies I used and how I put the pieces together. I don't think I'd have the time to make them to sell. I'll see how it goes. I should be able to post them up by the end of this weekend.

I decided to go ahead and at least start posting my steps. As you can see from the above pictures I have already sewn the pouches and just need to add/attach the straps and buckles etc., if I have missed a step or you have a question about something I will try and answer it as soon as I can.

To mark my cut and seam lines I use a Silver Sharpie and once finished I'll give the chest rig 2-3 light coats to cover up any remaining markings. You can skip this step and not spray the rig if you use a small piece of a used dried bar of soap.

This is a work in progress and I will post additional steps as I complete them.

You can use the original post photo as reference. More to follow.

Made some more progress today. I managed to finish up the rig's strapping and the grenade straps. (I'll post the grenade straps after the strapping later tonight if I can.)

I'm thinking about making a few more of these and curious what folks think a reasonable price would be?

Perhaps you also could offer material kits?

Thanks Steve, I am a helicopter maintenance test pilot by day. I deal with details all day long, so in my off time its hard to break the habit. It drives my wife crazy!!!

Just an update which I have been meaning to do for a while but a post on a FB page reminded me I needed to make a correction. Originally I placed the rig's upper corners attaching straps straight out from the sides when in actuality they extend from the top of the rig. I have made adjustments to the pattern guide which will make the rig more screen accurate. My apologies, hope this helps future makers. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

How did you do the grenade holders?  Webbing or nylon?

I used 1 inch cotton webbing for the bottom strap and 1 inch black heavy duty elastic for the side straps. (The texture and color of both are almost identical) All three holders are then sewn to a single 1 1/4 inch cotton webbing piece (its about a 5 inch piece that I cut off the webbing belt I used for the upper chest rig straps) That is held to my chest rig by snaps that I painted black. I wish I could provide you with a photo but I am not in the U.S. right now. I was going to finish the tutorial for the grenade holders but never got around to it.

Had some questions about the routing of the chest straps to the shoulder rings. I am not at my kit so I cant take photos right now, but this should help explain it. If not just ask.
