Crookknight's Shadow Scout Build Thread

Recommended Posts

Assuming that I did trim enough, I went ahead and put the first glossy coat on this and the visor.  The visor still needs a little work.  I had to add more putty and fillable/sandable primer to it since I took these pictures.

The faceplate will receive at least 1 more coat, after I fix a few flaws.

You can still see the seam line, so I have some more work to do on the visor.

What are your thoughts on these pieces?  I am going to try to build this to the highest level.  Also, where can I get the best possible bolt things that go on the side of the visor that connects to the helmet?

I found a vendor in the US that is listed in my build thread for the bolts that are specialist level.  Also I am having issues with the printed items also in they are not sized to fit bucket or some of the other pieces they attach to.  I am looking at potentially printing my own parts as replacements to scale to my armor.  Or I may reprint some of the armor.  My bicep pieces are not formed large enough for the T-Bits to fit without some major sanding etc..

Thanks for all the pics of your bucket.  That has helped me to get mine ready and smoothed.

Shine looks good to me and the amount on the faceplate that you left is good.

Thanks for the info.  Let me know if those bolts are concave.

Since the aerator needs to be painted a contrasting black to the helmet, does that mean if i used gloss for the helmet this piece needs to be flat black?  That is how I read it.

Yes, all of my greeblies are being painted matte, with the armor in the Canyon Black Satin.

Also I am still waiting to order the bolts as with the lockdown they said they could not order for a month and that should be up soon.

Thanks for the info.  I tried that site and could not even checkout since it would not allow for me to setup a new account.

Also, I could not tell if they were concave.  They looked convex.

I ended up calling them and that is how I got any info.

Anyone know where I can get the mirrored lense?

A friend of mine shared a link with me from the Mando Mercs on how to make them.  More less clear face mask with mirrored tint on it.

Just checked and Trooperbay has the mirror and also the decal set for the scout.  I am waiting to see if Walt sent me a set since the basic Shadow does not require the stickers but the specialist does.

If you are doing a gloss finish...just make sure the decals are matte to contrast.  That's what Trooperbay's standard decals are I believe, but best to message them and check.  I know I had to special request gloss decals for my satin finish.  Ur greeblies...matte will be good w/ the gloss finish.

Painted the aerator a matte black to contrast with the gloss black finish.

I wish I had more time to get things done, but it is slowly getting there.

Also, I do not feel like waiting a couple of months to attach my visor to the helmet with Specialist level bolts and stuff.  How do you normally attach it?  Do you use a bolt of some kind.

Pictures of aerator attached.

There should be holes in the side of ur visor and dome and the bolts just install there.  Screwed in.  Were bolts sent with the kit?

No bolts were sent with the kit.  I was waiting to cut the holes until I got bolts.  Do you know what kind and size (diameter and length) that I need?

22mm is the approx measure u need.  I just did a quick google search of 22mm speedglas elevator bolts (these are for welding helmets) and here are a couple examples that may work...

The knurled end would go on the interior of ur bucket while the flat thin part is what is visible on the exterior.  Those aluminum ones look durable as heck I may grab a set to test as I have resin replicas at the moment which are bit fragile lol...tho for Level 2 they need to be concave.

The other set is a plastic one and by the pic looks to be concave.  You would use the bolt and the round black piece on the interior.

Again just examples...looks to be plenty of sources out there though...so shop around.

@Raider you said concave, but when I look at the CRL for Level 2, there is nothing about the bolts being concave. just 22mm.
Can you verify this for me?

4th bullet point on helmet for Level 1...and u are correct my bad no concave requirement for L2
