Mitcheg1’s DT Build (Finally)

Recommended Posts

After seeing the DT’s make an appearance in the Mandalorian, I decided it was time to get off my butt and finally finish my DT that I started a long time ago...  Gonna need some guidance as I’ve been disconnected from this for a while so comments/suggestions/advice are welcome

Helmet and armor: 3D printed (TDK Props files)

gloves: Endor Finders

Undersuit: Darkside Closet

forearm bands and rubber gasket for helmet: Plastic Arms Dealer

belt kit: Various suppliers

- leather pouch and holster: K Roundtree

- soft pouches: K Lugo

DLT19 and E-11D: 3D Printed (TDK Props files)

[I’ll update this as I proceed]

printed the accessories for the helmet first.  Had some white PLA lying around so I used it (After baking it out).  Had some flow issues, but generally pleased with how these turned out.  Got some new black PLA so printing the main bucket as we speak.

For the record, I hate the process of smoothing and sanding my parts!  Next time I’m buying vac formed or cast parts.  However, finally seeing progress on the bucket.  Now gotta get my printer working again (thermistor crapped out) so I can start printing the armor!

I'm also looking at 3d printing the Deathtrooper.  Where did you get the files from?  I assume TC is Tom Canpbell but I haven't been able to find those files yet. or found out how to contact Tom.

Thanks,,

That it is!  Tom is on Facebook.  Can probably connect with him through the Death Trooper (build group) on Facebook as well

So I’ve finally got some momentum on this!  All armor parts are now printed, still a lot of sanding to do!  All soft parts are ordered, and various electronics as well.  Here some update pics!

Realized I never posted my finished helmet, so here you go!D1A610B4-4D63-4ED3-AEBE-2F3B04BB5BE1.jpeg.434d70c90dc22cc0ed6fd110bf08276b.jpegA9AD7D70-E54A-4404-B859-D380D36DBDB7.jpeg.9c616e61d079589e0ba7d601a8cc2460.jpeg

Lot of work since my last post!  All parts have now been primered and several are in final paint!  Also started laying out the belt and finished chest rig!  Trying to figure out best method for rigging everything, so have been scouring others build posts.  Hopefully will begin working on that shortly.919665D4-559B-47D9-BE2C-2D04C5290C21.jpeg.67f52010d43170db433202b180183bb0.jpegCFA0F399-0D88-40B5-BA89-CB9EAF1FEEE6.jpeg.ac2e8f20eae582f4989423b2da8f2f15.jpeg

That looks amazing so far, Greg!
Also, I really dig the paintjob as it isn't too shiny and neither too matt. Very similar to what can be seen on the reference photos of SWC London 2016.

If I may point out one thing: You may want to switch the shoulder bells since the front sides that can be seen on your picture are actually supposed to be at the back. The very same may apply to the biceps parts as I can't see any "racing lines" on them. Please take this as constructive feedback and not as criticism per se. As mentioned above, your armor looks gorgeous.

Thanks for the feedback!  I have corrected this!

Mitcheg1/Greg - a few questions --- what is your process for filling, sanding and painting the 3d prints?  What filler did you use when you printed parts in multiple pieces then attached them together?  Did you use anything to help before sanding and painting, such as Filler Primer or XTC-3d?  What kind of primer and paint did you use?  I'm just about at the same stage myself and have looked at several different methods, so wanted to see what you did so I can try it out as well.  Thanks!

I used both XTC-3D and standard Epoxy Resin like you get for Fiberglassing.  XTC was much easier to deal with, so worth the added cost in my opinion!  I then used filler primer, coarse sand with 80 grit, filler primer, 120 grit, filler primer and maybe some bondo spot putty for bigger gaps, 220 grit, more primer, wet sand with 400.  Final paint.  It ain’t perfect but looks good in my opinion!

I strictly used Rustoleum for my painting.

This is just about done!  Missing my undersuit, which will be arriving on Wed!  Can’t wait!
