WIP Novatrooper Medic

Recommended Posts

I think I narrowed it down to doing a NT Medic for my build. I was considering a NT Elite or Shadowtrooper, but I really like the red & black look and every time I see one in a photo it really stands out. 🤩

Little about me:

My first 501st build was the Grand Inquisitor and I built the entire thing outside of the mask, neckseal and boots myself. I learned a lot of things the hard way trying to make his softgoods and armor, but I feel like it has put me in a decent place to take on something like this. That said, I'm very green at costuming, especially when it comes to stormtroopers and their kits, so all advice and criticism is appreciated. I'm trying my best to follow the CRL and reference images, but if you see me misunderstanding something or doing things wrong, please tell me. My only goal in this journey (besides enjoying the adventure) is to create a top-notch build.

Some beginner questions:

I'm starting with a basic white ANOVOS stormtrooper kit. I'm guessing the best way to go would be to cut and fit the armor first and then paint it, right?

Also, I have an ankle injury from the military that keeps me in boots for structural support, so I was wondering if one of my existing pairs of boots that have a thicker, more supportive sole might be usuable if I hide the logos and make the soles black?

Good choice on the Novatrooper Medic! We redid that CRL not too long ago to provide updated images, so they definitely look fresh. I'll try and answer your questions below:

1. I'd totally advise you trimming it to fit and then spraying it down, that way it isn't getting scuffed, etc.

2. Those boots do have a bit longer/higher heel and a bit more stitches than you'd normally see. If you haven't already reached out to your GML, I'd talk to them, sometimes if there is a medical reason there can be amendments to allow for certain things on the kit. When looking at your boot picture, it looks like there are two different styles there, but the top one with the more "U-shaped" elastic would be the best bet.

Appreciate it! And perfect timing as we actually have a garrison event today, so I'll be able to talk to my GML about everything.

Make sure that you match the CORRECT color “red” as stated in the CRL. As a GML currently, I always make sure colors match in text and not always pics. The current CRL pic is a darker red than it is supposed to be. My boyfriend saw the same thing and in certain lighting, the sherwin William’s Kirsh red is a more pink hue than the red pictured. I spent a good chunk of change just on the two cans of spray paint for the kit. About $80 or so.

Good luck with your build! ❤️

The Novatrooper Medic red has been identified as Kirsch Red from Sherwin Williams: SW6313. RGB Value: R-154 | G-70 | B-80. Pantone code: 696c.

this should help. It is from the CRL.
