Bootlegger137's Death Trooper WIP

Recommended Posts

Ok...pretty sure I'm moving forward with this build so a little thread to list what I plan to order/have ordered (and bookmark for myself), as well as ask questions for potential sources.

Won't need a pauldron, chest rig, etc. as I'm going for Version 1.

EDIT: Went with the Jim Tripon armor and helmet mainly due to cost.

If any of these don't meet requirements, PLEASE let me know.

GLOVES: EndorFinders. - OWN

Rogue One Trooper Gloves — Endor Finders

HELMET: Jimmiroquai / Jim Tripon - DEPOSIT PAID

May upgrade with electronics from UKSWRATH down the road depending on how it comes out)

ARMOR: Jimmiroquai / Jim Tripon - DEPOSIT PAID

Will worry about strapping once it arrives, while researching options/ideas here on the forum.

BUBBLE LENS: OPLE Props

OPLE Props Deathtrooper Rogue one Trooper Helmetlense + Tusken glasses Lense Costume Helmet Cosplay death trooper rogueone green

             Killer

BELT: TrooperBay belt kit and canvas pouches - ORDERED

Rogue One Death Trooper Belt Webbing and Buckle Cosplay Costuming Sci-Fi - Trooperbay

Rogue One: Deathtrooper Black Canvas Ammo 3 Pouch Set - Trooperbay

E-11D and SE-14R: Imperial Arms (Premium Models) - ORDERED

E-11D / SE-14R BOGO Blaster Replica Set | 1:1 Rogue One Props – Imperial Arms

Would absolutely love to find rubber versions of both (Praetorian/NOLA does a rubber SE-14R, but not the E-11D).

SE-14R HOLSTER: Darman Props - ORDERED

SE-14R Death Trooper Holster - Etsy

There's probably a couple of other things I've overlooked...so again, please feel free to make suggestions.

Small update, and in need of direction…

Heard back from Jim Tripon, and got his price list. The whole kit, including helmet and undersuit, with shipping to the US will be several hundred dollars cheaper than Jinta…so that got my attention.

I’m searching the forums, but are there any specific threads on painting his kits and what to use? I’d be surprised if gloss black Rustolem is the way to go. 😆

Hey Chris!

Best of luck on your build!

Regarding painting the kit, do NOT use Rustoleum. I had such a hard time with it creating an orange peel look that I had to take weeks off from trying to fix it.

What ended up working for me was using Duplicolor Hot Rod Black spray paint, and then using 2K Clear Coat for the gloss look.  It came out amazing!

Thanks for the tip! Still exploring the various build threads and researching.

Out of curiosity, how many cans of the Duplicolor and clear coat did you end up using?

Your list is solid. My kit is a Jimmi kit. I have made a lot of upgrades over the years. You will find his parts are slightly heavier than an ABS kit. I like that about Jim's material because ABS wouldn't stand up to the abuse I have put my armor thru. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Decided to take a gamble on Imperial Arms' BOGO combo. I used the contact form on the site to ask about current time frame, and got an actual reply from Trevor within a few minutes saying 8-10 weeks. That seemed to be an “ok” sign. Also, the price was already reduced, and was able to get an additional 20% off for the Labor Day sale. So my total was $452 with free delivery. Even if it’s 12 weeks or a little longer, I doubt I’ll be anywhere near finished my armor by that time where they'll be needed.

A couple of quick questions:

Looking at UKSWRATH's lighting system for the Neuro-Saav Macromotion (NSM) Monitor and Hovi Tips (Tusks). Can I use some of the flat green lens material from a standard TK bucket for the Hovis?

Does the elastic for the biceps matter, as long as it's black? Will 1" black elastic work? Smaller? Not entirely sure what the CRL means when it says "one or two black elastic cord straps."

Ok, that's enough of an update for now...back to researching paints, strapping systems, etc. (Suggestions always welcome. 😉)

Since there was never any onscreen references to the hovis or NSM being illuminated, there is no requirement to even have them for basic or L2 approval.

If you chose to illuminate the hovis, make sure you use some type of opaque dark green material and some type of diffuser so that the illumination is uniform, this means there is no appearance of a "bright spot" where the LED is. Some people have used EL Panels.

The black elastic cord straps are basically the same thing as a black ponytail holder. This has been confirmed by one of the stunt DTs in R1

"1 black elastic straps will not be acceptable.

Anything that would mount the TD to the belt would work. Paul's mount might need to be modified so that the mount itself sits flush against the curvature of the DT TD. Just don't use zip-ties wrapped around the TD 😄

You mean it’s not done the same as my Biker Scout’s TD? 🤣

I think I’ll just stick with what’s known to work and use the bracket file from  @DoggyDoc

1 can of Duplicolor, but I ended up buying 2 cans of 2K Clearcoat because I messed up and had to redo it, which required sanding it off.
I just chalked it up to a learning experience.

Is this stuff ok for the trim on the helmet neck opening? Is there a better option?

https://a.co/d/fXOdXE2

I’m using this for the trim on my bucket. Use the longer side on the inside of the helmet and the shorter side sits perfectly around the edge.
