Bootlegger137
Ok...pretty sure I'm moving forward with this build so a little thread to list what I plan to order/have ordered (and bookmark for myself), as well as ask questions for potential sources. Won't need a pauldron, chest rig, etc. as I'm going for Version 1. EDIT: Went with the Jim Tripon armor and helmet mainly due to cost. If any of these don't meet requirements, PLEASE let me know. Bootlegger137
Small update, and in need of direction… Heard back from Jim Tripon, and got his price list. The whole kit, including helmet and undersuit, with shipping to the US will be several hundred dollars cheaper than Jinta…so that got my attention. I’m searching the forums, but are there any specific threads on painting his kits and what to use? I’d be surprised if gloss black Rustolem is the way to go. 😆 Link to comment

Regarding painting the kit, do NOT use Rustoleum. I had such a hard time with it creating an orange peel look that I had to take weeks off from trying to fix it. What ended up working for me was using Duplicolor Hot Rod Black spray paint, and then using 2K Clear Coat for the gloss look. It came out amazing! 1 Link to comment

Still exploring the various build threads and researching. Out of curiosity, how many cans of the Duplicolor and clear coat did you end up using? Link to comment

Chaos[CMD-DCA]
Your list is solid. My kit is a Jimmi kit. I have made a lot of upgrades over the years. You will find his parts are slightly heavier than an ABS kit. I like that about Jim's material because ABS wouldn't stand up to the abuse I have put my armor thru. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. Looking forward to seeing your progress. 1 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Decided to take a gamble on Imperial Arms' BOGO combo. I used the contact form on the site to ask about current time frame, and got an actual reply from Trevor within a few minutes saying 8-10 weeks. That seemed to be an “ok” sign. Also, the price was already reduced, and was able to get an additional 20% off for the Labor Day sale. So my total was $452 with free delivery. Even if it’s 12 weeks or a little longer, I doubt I’ll be anywhere near finished my armor by that time where they'll be needed. A couple of quick questions: Looking at UKSWRATH's lighting system for the Neuro-Saav Macromotion (NSM) Monitor and Hovi Tips (Tusks). Can I use some of the flat green lens material from a standard TK bucket for the Hovis? Does the elastic for the biceps matter, as long as it's black? Will 1" black elastic work? Smaller? Not entirely sure what the CRL means when it says "one or two black elastic cord straps." Ok, that's enough of an update for now...back to researching paints, strapping systems, etc. (Suggestions always welcome. 😉) Link to comment

Can I use some of the flat green lens material from a standard TK bucket for the Hovis? Since there was never any onscreen references to the hovis or NSM being illuminated, there is no requirement to even have them for basic or L2 approval. If you chose to illuminate the hovis, make sure you use some type of opaque dark green material and some type of diffuser so that the illumination is uniform, this means there is no appearance of a "bright spot" where the LED is. Some people have used EL Panels. Does the elastic for the biceps matter, as long as it's black? Will 1" black elastic work? Smaller? Not entirely sure what the CRL means when it says "one or two black elastic cord straps." The black elastic cord straps are basically the same thing as a black ponytail holder. This has been confirmed by one of the stunt DTs in R1 "1 black elastic straps will not be acceptable. 1 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Oh, ok. The cord reference makes sense now. 1 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Looking at TD mounting options, @DoggyDoc was kind enough to share his file with me. Wondering if the rubber mount used by Mr. Paul in his Shoretrooper build would also work? Link to comment
Chaos[CMD-DCA]
Anything that would mount the TD to the belt would work. Paul's mount might need to be modified so that the mount itself sits flush against the curvature of the DT TD. Just don't use zip-ties wrapped around the TD 😄 1 Link to comment

I just chalked it up to a learning experience. 1 Link to comment

Use the longer side on the inside of the helmet and the shorter side sits perfectly around the edge. 2 Link to comment
Chaos[CMD-DCA]
This is the appearance of the flat black rubber seal around the inside edge of an Anovos helmet, it matches the size and appearance of the screen used helmet's rubber seal. Since there is no basic approval requirement for the rubber seal and its only referenced as an L2 requirement your GML will probably approve it without a seal. However, if a rubber seal is on a helmet, your GML may require that it at least looks accurate. Any seal that is approximately 15-20mm across the flat area will work. So make sure that what ever you put around the edge looks like the Anovos seal, especially if you are thinking of an L2 approval. This seal material I know meets the requirement. I get that the CRL doesn't give specific measurements, but this sentence "Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume." adds another layer to any L2 determination. https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Channel-Length-Protector-1-5-2mm/dp/B0C2HMP9MK/ 1 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Parts are starting to arrive! Belt buckles. Top is Blaster Factory, bottom is Phoenix Props. I'd ordered the BF buckle, and then saw in a build thread that it comes in "weathered." Couldn't cancel the order, so now I've got 2. Going to use the PP buckle in my build. Arm impellers/rockets from Phoenix Props. Belt pouches from TrooperBay. They don't have the velcro on them, which is a departure from their description on the website and Etsy. Not a huge deal...guess I'll have to learn to use my sewing machine. And rubber belt kit from TrooperBay. This one is a bit of an issue, as the rubber belt is only 48" in length...not the 56" in their description. Currently emailing back and forth with them regarding this issue and whether they can send a replacement. So a bit of "buyer beware" on this one. UPDATE: TrooperBay says they can only get the rubber mat (for the belt) in a 4’ width…so it is what it is. No idea how much extra the armor will add to my waist line, but 48” should be ok. They should probably update their descriptions in the various sites they use to sell. I’d be curious to see how this would stack up to the requirements for the belt. Maybe if I get stuck, I’ll take a flier on it. https://a.co/d/32oFVh2 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Wondering about the quality of Jim Tripon’s shoulder and ab buckles, etc. Would it be worth upgrading to this set from Blaster Factory? https://blasterfactory.com/product/death-trooper-chest-buckle-pre-cut-complete-set/ Or, if the buckles are good, just get the aluminium shoulder V-rings? https://blasterfactory.com/product/death-trooper-shoulder-v-ring-set/ Link to comment
Chaos[CMD-DCA]
Chris, Do you have access to a 3D FPM or resin printer? If so you can use these files I used on my Jim kit. Print at 100% infill. I didn't like the shoulder and V rings. The lower side buckles are good enough, I just hollowed out the Buckle to accommodate a side strap that I made. I attached my chest rig all the time and it is heavy because I have heavy magazines in the pouches, I have never had an issue with any of it. This kit is expensive in it's basic form, metal accessories are nice to have but so not necessary! 0 Updated Shoulder Buckles and Rings 8 Feb 2021.stl 1 Side Buckle Straps 10 Feb 21.stl 1 Link to comment
Bootlegger137
Thanks, Chris! I have someone that did some printing for me to upgrade my Biker Scout, so I'll see if they can do these along with the TD supports, bicep clips, etc. 1 Link to comment
