Teach me ... That second image (which immediately follows the first, being the same troops) looks like Shadow Scout (black Scout) armour. What am I not seeing? The WEG images have leg armour & forearm armour. The above dont seem to have what isn't intended to be SS kit.
-
Has anyone worked up blueprints, or size/ measurements of the bazooka/missle launcher in the comicbook images?
-
Thsnks! Looking at the top link, there are some really neat & some pretty funny illustrations there

Update: Got more parts, inc Tro-B decals Waiting on helmet bolts/headband, and the pollen to quite falling to paint. I thought I would have time during my family's spring break ... didnt happen Worked a lot this week, as coworkers took family vaca. (& had to spend the time not entertaining kids & kids friends fixing my car ... but got that done) Next week ... BACK TO WORK!!!
-
No progress on parts. I have been moving the TIE helmet forward. Drilling holes in something that costs hundreds of dollars and made of thin plastic is nerve-racking for the first time. But, looking at original film prop images, I think it worked out OK. I have the ATA one, bought the kit, and have been working on it in "bursts" since my original suits failed approval, I ordered FAC ones, at the recommendation of the GML, and decided to use the black one as the basis of a storm commando/shadow scout. My wife wants the kitchen table back ... so the TIE stuff needs to get finished and off my work space (meant to be temporary) ,,, O have promised to do the SS stuff elsewhere. Once the TIE helmet is finished, the chest box (181st, type repainted (and all the strange crazing to finally stop), and all that, I will be sanding the plastic S Scout armour and wait for the headband and correct bolts to arrive. I will paint satin or semi-gloss based on what finish the coming-to-me TB decals come with. So, everything gets sanded, paint starts after the decals arrive and weather cooperates, and helmet gets final cutting, sanding and paint once its parts show up. Soft parts-> have material. Need batting, suede, and elastic for suit leg straps and butt. Ordered: DVH blaster I have the vinyl for the boots, but no boots. Suggestions on boots? Still need: -gloves (leaning toward WW, but unsure of L or XL-> I have L TIE ones, which are snug, but good, If the scout ones are even slightly tighter, I will need the bigger ones.) -A second DD Hasbro conversion kit- in my first, I screwed up the holes and "plated" over them. Also, I don't feel confident in my gluing job on the back strap-mount-> as I plan for the scout E-11 to have a shoulder strap (as seen in the comics). A for which gets done first ... 181 or Shadow Scout ... all depends on how long FAC takes to deliver the suits I ordered from them (one to keep black for RP/IC and a future regular TIE, one to add blood-stripes for the 181st). Aside: My plans for the custom "Spec Ops Pilot" have shifted, as I will have full sets of 181st and S Scout: Core: black TIE flight suit (or my hand-sewn red-striped one, with some changes to it), with 181st vest, harnesses, and box TIE helmet (don't think a blended custom one makes sense or would look "right"- as the TIE screams "pilot") Arms and Legs: Shadow Scout armour. Boots: probably Scout, as that holster gives interest and a blaster that actually makes sense. I will say that the Scout helmets is far more practical, from a costume perspective. The TIE is HUGE and still hard to see out of, while the scout allows head movement and you can see out of it. (Been playing with partially completed helmets)

For pilot/scout crossover folks, how does the L WW gloves of each type compare? I have the L WW ones for my TI. Do the TB ones fit the same? Tighter? Looser?
-
Are there any other options for gloves, besides WW (told where banned from 501) or the original Esprit?
-
How thick? My foam (on hand) is the soft kind used as batting in some projects. I got it to replace some in KC driving light covers (kid flipped the light on, with the cover still on and melted/cooked the original stuff), not hardware store foam.

Between entertaining 4 10 year old boys today, I worked on the helmet (added more putty to the seam, and cut out the visor hole, using the SC outline on the inside). I'm waiting on bolts/headband before I do any edge trimming, then painting on it. I want to make sure everything aligns when I bolt it up correctly. I also trimmed the eyeholes of the TIE helmet. Next, it needs to have bolt-holes drilled, mohawk trimming, and more holes for bolts (bottom-sides and ear-wells). I will be lining inside the teeth and the Scout ear-wells with a light-weight, breathable fabric (to let air through, but visually block the sight). Back to the Scout ... I need to sand all the armour, then paint black. The weather won't cooperate this week (either rain or cold- based on forecasts) for paint. I now can size the soft-bits and may make them if I get the time this week. I will need the batting, 2" butt-strap, and suede. Questions: In some illustrations, they have twin holsters in place of the hip boxes. Anyone done that? I assume they aren't troopable, even if in the original SS illustrations (WEG sources, for certain). If so, what pistols are in them? E-11? Do SSs on here carry E-11s? If so, is it in the "standard" black holster, or slung over the shoulder?

Too late tonight Peoples sleeping ... (Is just after midnight where I sit and type) Plenty will be coming .. I did forget the pouches. I will need to make those too. I have the black twill and canvas, again-> from other projects. Did ya'll use foam or batting to full the cummerbund/cod? I have some 1/4" foam (the green stuff) from a project from KC light covers. If that all works, I have the materials I need, for the soft-armour, just need measurements and guidance.

And today a "new world" officially opens up for me. I received the SC armour in the mail. I started helmet assembly, gluing the back to the top, then adding filler putty to the gap. Now, I need to get my butt in gear and strip the pockets off my former flight suit (the failed TIE/RP one), then sew on the collar off my "parts" suit (Red Kap, I got three-> 1 black TIE, 1-181st, and 1 for material/parts). I still need to get: Suede (for legs and butt-flap) Gloves Boots - and hot days to get the black vinyl (have from other projects over the years) to stretch, which will come later this year, most assuredly in South Carolina. Cummerbund and cod-flap (will measure, now that I have the top armour part to get the top measurement Vest and quilted sleeves Hold-Out blaster (plan to get from DVH, as he kicked this into gear ... and makes a great product from what I understand) Probably need to get more, that I'm not think of ...

Upon receipt of the bottom image they are much better than I expected. The black one is a 1960s spec ops variant of a 1950s Heckler and Koch assault rifle/pistol and roughly the size of a Sterling. With a longer barrel (with holes?), plus some "star wars greemlies" that would look neat. The clear one might actually make a decent base for something. Like ... E-17d or DLT-20a
-
For a shadow SCOUT? Looks perfect for a Shadow Trooper, but the Scout uses a boot. The tutorial here is what seems to be the most recommended one: http://forum.bikerscout.net/index.php?showtopic=903 I need to get the base-boot, then try it out. As I haven't even gotten the armour yet, I'm in no rush. As it WILL get quite hot here in a month or 2, I'm waiting till then to wrestle the vinyl to fit.

No commentary or suggestions? I'm not looking to go wild. My aim: 3 weapons- Boot-holdout blaster E-11 in holster Something on a sling (aiming at 34-42 inch range, not a 4' sniper rifle) On Ebay, I got decent deals on these 2 lots of "non-firing" airsoft/BB guns": Plus, I got a correct-scale/sized Skorpion Vz. 61. I love the looks of it and simply would love to make something usable out of it. I was planning to make a "super trooper"/Boba-prototype blaster out of the Uzi, bit it is too absurdly small to work. That Uzi would, however, work for a missile-launcher/bazooka-style weapon's trigger and handle. In the big lot, on of the M-16/M4 rifles sent was the modern-style barrel, not the older style one-> but it is a heavier, more realistic one than the weirder one with the plate-thing over the stock left out. I figure I can make 4 different guns, starting with one that is more of a "learning" attempt, with the later ones being better. Wnat canon-types are those good bases for? I figure an A280 or A295 (Shadow Scouts are supposed to use Rebel guns in some sources/missions-> so that parallels real-world Spec Ops use of local-weapons in ops). The black shotgun-looking one may be a decent base for the M44/StG44-based Hoth one. What about an E-17d rifle? What should I be researching? I am looking for suggestions and guidance for something(s) that can be troopable-approvable once finished.

Let me re-look into this ... Thanks to Ebay, I got some non-firing (basically, returned to seller) M-16/AR-15/M4 "airsoft" guns, as part of a lot. One is significantly heavier and slightly larger than the other 2, which are exactly the same size. One of the smaller ones has the original-style barrel, while the other is the newer "rails" barrel. The larger one looks that that currently used. Right now, I plan to leave the big one alone, till I get better at this ... For the smaller two, I'm wondering which approvable-for-trooping blasters I can make them into. As the Endor-version A280 was built out of Colt AR-15s originally, that was my first thought. Yet, it seems to be more alterations there than I realized, esp. for a first-attempt at something like this. I would need the Rebel-Legion kit I don't have a link for to make it work .... What about aomewhat more obscure stuff? Would the rebel E-17d be buildable, with the M4 "core," a trimmed down stock (with a larger "plate" on the end, to match the A280/295 look), and a long barrel built into the rail area. The upper part coule support the barrel structure, with the rest adapted around it? What other ones should I look at? For these 2, I hope to keep the "spirit" of the original (less major gun mods, with more using simple greeblies, not "halo"-esque like the Mando folks). Is there one out there that would be perfect? As one of the Ebay lot was an Uzi, I hoped to use that for the Super-Trooper/Boba-prototype one (using the flash core barrel). But, the actual airsoft is absurdly small- like 1/2 sized, or so. It would make a good grip=core for a bazooka or missile launcher (Stinger-style). It also included 4 pistols, all in the general style of the Colt 1911. 2 were laughably small and cheap-looking, while the the other 2 are metal and look real. Are there any pistol blaster built out of this style pistol?
-
Yeah, I realized that after the above post. It's a slightly, cosmetically altered: As tha trooping gun ... no. Of corse not. There is the shot of a scout with the N-strike shield visible on the black gun (I would hot-link, but I can't find it quickly. What I have, which is on hand, is to practice technique (and for my Scion xB long-term project), not for trooping. I was more curious as to what people keep making the LongShot into ... as I didn't see anything even close to it so far in SW. That said, ... using the back-part of the "Build Your Own Blaster" (Clone Wars) as the back-core of a DLT-20 did cross my mind. Though, I think the distance between the handle and the stock isn't enough. So, it won't look "right" for anything I can think of. I wish I had actual shop tools ... I'd use one of the BYO Lewis kits I've come across.
-
But, of course! I thought I was within days of 501st approval (IC/RP), but now that is more like months away. The failed suit will become my scout undersuit. So, until I get my SC Scout armour and start work on it, I figure I would see if I can assemble (or at least begin) some appropriate kit. My 181st chest box is in the midst of painting (not easy when it keeps being cold and rainy around here) and sanding out flaws revealed in painting. The helmet is awaiting replacement hardware, lost in transit (box destroyed and soaked-> no idea how). No stupid stuff, trying to stay in-universe and "true" to both the universe and real-world spec ops (which I've been reading about when unable to work on kit and not at work itself). What is the "correct" length of the T-21? I wonder how hard it would be to make a credible version? Also, I keep reading about people "converting the Nerf Longshot" ... into WHAT?

As the "Shadow Scouts" are the SEAL/Delta-Force type commandos in the Empire, I have a question: What arsenal do they operate with? Thermal detonators E-11 Hold-Out blaster DTL-19 DC-15x Items I dont know which make, but know type: Disrupter rifle Projectile/slug rifle What about other weapons? EE-3 DH-17? What would be in the inventory that I'm not thinking about? Real world equivalent: http://sofrep.com/navy-seals/weapons-gear/ http://www.militaryfactory.com/smallarms/navy-seal-weapons.asp http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/05/robert-farago/the-guns-and-knives-of-the-navy-seals/ http://navyseals.com/weapons-demo/ Of couse, all isnt carried at once... only what is needed for the mission Spec Ops-> light & fast

Could someone PM me a good source for a cummberbund/pouches and vest? My recent experience in self-creation went over like a lead zeppelin ....
-
Looking at a white SC b-pull kit Should that be approvable? Says are minor issues, so shouldnt be a problem. I hope so. (I hope) Trying to turn lemons into a cocktail ....

How much of the undersuit collar is visible on a Shadow Scout kit? With the gloves and boots, the cuffs (leg and arm) should be fine as I have them, but no pockets. So ... back to thread ... I have a 23" round head. How does that compare between the helmets?
-
My 501st plans took a hit today ... My "thought-ready-to-submit" RP/IC kit isn't due to the fact I hand-stitched the pockets onto the Red Kap suit (I don't have a sewing machine capable of doing it). The result isn't as "clean" as a machine, even if the material I used make it quite strong (nylon thread). Without the ready-to-go black suit, my next kit may not be the standard TIE pilot. I'm working on a 181st FG kit. I may convert the black suit to a Shdow Scout undersuit (remove pockets, add suede, etc). So, any guudance is helpful. I may get a red-striped 181st suit from MC, then save for a Shadow Scout.
-
My planned RP/IC kit can't be approved as I hand-stitched the pockets. I have no machine capable to redo it and it would be cheaper to but an MC than pay someone else to do it. Main 4 sides: So, I have a suit that fits, but no use for it. If I removed the pockets, would that be a good basis for a Shadow Scout undersuit? If so, I will have to get an MC suit for my 181st kit. Then, I would look ay either: Standard TIE pilot OR Shadow Scout Without the black suit for TIE, it becomes a much closer price between the kits. Are the SC "B" kits that far off the A ones? I'd want to so a "used" Scout regadless, so some imperfections would be "good." In all Star Wars, I'm mainly interested in the pilots and the Shadow Scout, period. So, this is the main "other" kit I'm interested in doing.
-
So ... As of yet, no image of a Galactic Civil War-period Spec Ops pilot ... What would one be like, as canon-as-possible? Ideas? Blacked-out 181st pilot? (no-red stripe, black vest, black flight harness) Something else?
