Here are the Dr. Martens - Mayers that I picked up via eBay. Came with some pretty handy custom zippers that will make putting them on a little easier.
-
My build is in progress, so time to start documenting it. I'm planning to buy most of the outer portions from some of the talented prop makers who have things in the works. However, I am going to try and construct my undersuit, and a few other things along the way. Look forward to becoming a spec ops member in the near future with an Anovos Shadow, but my heart and mind is all about the Deathtrooper right now. Armor: Undecided Helmet: Phoenix Props Gloves: Endor Finders Boots: Dr. Martens - Mayer (hopefully will find the Jered's someday)
-
So you're thinking we should have entry level at a solid black heelless sole? I'd highly disagree with that for now since Dr. Martens are still being made this way. I'd have the Mayer and Talib at entry, and the Jered as next level. I really don't think that's asking too much.
-
No, but it's also why we agreed that its a 2nd or 3rd level qualifier for accuracy. I would think it could also be accomplished by a peddler stitching that line and bringing the pull tab down to that level with the Mayer or Talibs

Nice work Mark. Gonna get more involved in the overall discussion soon.

Rogue One Death Trooper Research/Build Thread
bwattsup replied to mitcheg1's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Just my opinion Mark, but that is going to be an extremely tough qualifier for a ton of people. The Jered's are pretty much gone. It should be more of a level 2 kind of thing unless someone steps forward and makes a shoe to match. -

I think they're supposed to be rollonig out at the end of August Jim. -
Nice find Mark! Hadn't seen that one before. I'll add it to the list of things to search for.

Looks great Derrek!

I actually cropped those from the Hi-res pics Chris (themaninthesuitcase) provided in the photo thread. Credit goes to him for all the goodness he provided us. Marktoots and I have been dissecting them to death lately. Here's the link to the album Derrek. https://www.flickr.com/photos/themaninthesuitcase/sets/72157668304947273/with/27755479434/

These are the Tamiya model parts. If they reused them for the Deathtrooper the grill patterns at the ports would indicate they are skewed. There are extra grill lines on the straight ports. They might have made a completely new greeblie based off the old one, or the may have even flattened out the port tops on the new one. Honestly though, I'd just go with what ya got. If nothing else, now you know. Here are the instructions for the kit. I flipped the image to make it relative. "A" and "B' are the skewed ports. It also kind of shows the angle in which they are cut. Here's a few zoomed pictures from the Celebration models. This is the same greeblie on the Shoretrooper. And lastly the greeblie from my Scout helmet.

Can anyone identify the shoulder straps?
bwattsup replied to marktoots's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Interesting. Very well could have been a section without the holes cut out to make the straps. will be interesting to see if the measurements correspond to the ab/td. -
Yeah, that's because it has a known Star Wars part on it I'm sure. I can ask around today and see if anyone has the model still so we can get good pictures of the other 3 engine pieces. Like I said before, I still don't think we have enough info to say yes or no either way. I'd honestly go with it the way it is, or model the part to be a seperate cast if you're concerned about it at all. It's really such a beautiful model. I'm really sorry I put a snag in the process. I'm still going to post my pics for you in about 2-1/2 hours. The model at celebration was very weathered on that greeblie, which make it really hard to tell.
-
Yep, those are the 2 spots in question Derrek. Some (2) are straight on the model pieces, and some (2) are slightly tilted both right and left, with a slightly angled cut on top of that at the end of the port. I did a little research on the parts last night and cropped some pictures to show you. I'll post the pics in a couple of hours.
-
I'm sorry Derrek. I feel like I opened up a can of worms that probably would have been best served in a CRL discussion. I was really just trying to point it out to you since you asked for input. The greeblie that's on the Scout trooper/Shoretrooper/Deathtrooper is based off a Tamiya Yamaha XS1100LG Midnight Special 1:6 Scale motorcycle model kit. Specifically the engine block. Although the 2 parts seem to match up identically with the Scout and Shoretrooper, it may not be identical on the Deathtrooper. It's really hard to tell since they weathered the part on the Celebration models. There are 4 parts that were used specifcally for the engine block. 2 of them have straight (90 degree) ports, and 2 have slightly skewed ports. They might have used a straight one for the Deathtrooper. I really can't tell now that I've looked into it more. I had just assumed it was the same as the other 2 costumes. I'll post some pics in just a few hours of what I'm talking of. These work computers hate posting pictures on 501st forums.

You're on a roll Mark! Keep it up!
-
Also, not 100% sure if the aerator detail/greeblie is just like the Biker Scouts or not. If it is, then the 2 posts/tubes are slightly skewed to the right instead of being straight (90 degree). I think it's a little different but it's hard to tell with the pics available. Here's a couple of pics to compare off of.

I want in! This is the most detailed helmet yet. Beautiful work. Love it!

Death Trooper Helmet - Scratch Build (Studio 49)
bwattsup replied to Studio 49's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Nice! I like where this is headed. -
Thank you so much for the Hi-Res shots Chris! Your picture of the shoe just help me confirm what I've found this week. I've been having doubts about the Mayer shoe since it was sourced. I believe the shoe is a Dr. Marten "Jered". They are a padded top shoe with the 3/4 height tab. I've been thinking this since the tab always seemed to be below the ankle arch line. Here's your pic vs that model:

Here's the Hi Res versions of the Entertainment Weekly photos. I cropped some sections last week and made collage photos of each area. I'll try to do the same with some of the Celebration photos I downloaded over the weekend. Torso: Right Arm: Left Arm: Cod & Belt: Shoulder: Shin: Thigh: Side View:

Anyone know of an armor maker contemplating this one yet? I've seen a couple of potential helmet makers out there so far. Just haven't come across an armor vendor yet. I'm sure it's probably because we haven't seen it from every angle yet. Most notably the back view. I hope something starts up after Celebration.
