Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st
Par_ replied to Par_'s topic in Imperial Death Trooper
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have abandoned this project and am currently working on the Rogue One Stormtrooper, and hoping to in any way contribute to the development of the CRL over at FISD forums. My apologies to those who were following this thread -
I think the main problem with these DT build threads is that everyone keeps makin/designing them, but no one is painting them.... } Lol! Keep up the great work man! You are incredibly lucky to be able to do all this stuff

Any update on the helmet, and how much you are thinking of selling it for (that is, if you sell it by itself too)? -

Jimmiroquai - Death Trooper Helmet and Armor WIP
Par_ replied to jimmiroquai's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
If you don't mind Jim, I found another thing in this side by side comparison that may want to be changed. The very top of the center grill above the box only has 7 bars, while yours has 9. It doesn't (as shown in the picture) extend into the chest armor. However, it looks like there is extra plastic behind the grill that goes into the chest armor. But keep up the good work man! I wish I had the ability to do this stuff! -
Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st

While not 100% accurate, before the MP-40 ammo pouch I threw together the DT'S belt pouch the last night with fake leather, superglue, and Velcro (that's how I made the MP-40 pouch). That snap there isnt a snap. It's a rivet glued in with velcro on the underside of the flap. Close enough! I also spray painted tan and red paint with an acrylic black over it in areas. This gives it a leathery, weathered look like it's been in mud. Real happy tonight! Not really going for 501st on this one but hey, if they think the costume in the end is good, then yay! -
I would say coverstrip. You can see towards the bottom of the arms where the separation of the arm pieces are. I'm pretty certain it's a coverstrip

Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st
Par_ replied to Par_'s topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Made the Death Trooper ammo pouch (or WWII German MP-40 ammo pouch), using the same methods of the pouch I posted below. While not 100% accurate, I'm happy with it Also I have decided that on this costume I'm not specifically going for 501st, seeing as I'm mainly doing this costume for the fun of it, but mainly with hopes of finally experiencing what a stormtrooper armor feels like. Right now I am just trying to get as close as I can possibly get, with the exception of some minor inaccuracies. However I will continue to update this I also worked a little more on the abdomen. Took off some parts because they were pretty much trash. There is a little inaccuracy that isn't too noticeable at first glance, but I may end up just leaving it. I'm not sure how I will remedy the problem, but we'll see what happens. -
Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st

Progress continues on the DT. The other front Thigh piece has been made. It's pictured here with the other thigh, abdomen (unfinished), and crotch pieces. Word of advice: when working with signs, be extra sure to sand before painting. The words on the sign show up on the paint job. -
I always that that was the shirt and such. Lol this makes things a whole lot easier!

Poncho? What poncho?

I just saw something on the hand plates I have never noticed. If you look right underneath the bottom of the raised section, it looks like it has a different black paint along the bottom to give it a more highlighted look. It looks to be a matt black. They did the same thing to the helmet too (someone else pointed the helmet part out) to highlight a bunch of parts.

Resin would be the best bet I think.

Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st
Par_ replied to Par_'s topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Page 2!!!!!!!! Whoop whoop! Here we go! Essentially the lower side panels next to the center box weren't accurate enough (they weren't overlapping a piece of trim), and I glued one on but couldn't separate without ripping the plastic off, so I had to cut them off. Now I have replaced them with better ones, and my gosh! The center of this thing feels as hard as hockey gear!!! (the sides however I wouldn't advice hitting because of the flexible plastic) I know need to finish the panels and complete the side grills you see on the left and right. Eventually more to come (as long as I stop procrastinating!) -

***UPDATE*** I fixed a major accuracy issue with my abdomen section where I had to cut off the lower panels (due to the superglue ripping sections apart when I tried to separate the pieces). I will post pics soon Next is finishing up the basic shapes of the leg sections. Then it's all in figuring out the details and trimming it where it needs trimming (along with eventually buying more signs for the back thigh sections). Then after that I will do the lower back section of the armor so I have an entire half DT. Also huge announcement!!! I am not sure if I will do this specifically for 501st, due to possible minor inaccuracies causing it an issue, but I am still going for as accurate as possible. Once I am done with this, then we will see where it goes from there (I will still be posting in this thread). For now, it's just getting the costume made first. -

***Update*** Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Procrastinating....... Anyhow, I have bought more signs to get the generic legs out. Hopefully I will be able to come up with something I'll possibly be able to post something in the next few weeks. "Stay on target..." -
Do you have a link to the rubber perhaps?

As far as the ribbed strips running up and down the thigh sections of the armor, I have a few ideas on how they can easily be replaced (be it either you need new ones, or you found more accurate rubber ) I remember talking to you about an idea I had for a plastic part connecting the front and back thigh armor's in the rubber strip areas, so that the rubber strips can stay straight with no wrinkles or possible tears. Well if you want to take the rubber off, you can either: A. Velcro it to the plastic connecter. This would allow easy access. B. Attach magnets of some sorts to the underside of the rubber matt (along with the plastic connecter). What do you think Mark? I kind of like the first idea, only you risk having the rubber strips gradually peel away during a troop (due to maybe the guns or kids beating against it). This idea is mainly because I found some rubber matting at the store that would do for a first pass, but not 501st approval. And I would want to replace it eventually, so yeah...

Also, with the fore arm armor. It's essentially a modified version of the TK (or TD) fore arm armor. (also, please feel free to rephrase all of this so it makes more sense Mark. I phrased everything here horridly) For 501st approval (basic): -It is essentially a modified version of the TD fore arm armor. However, it has greeblies that are mentioned below. Also, the top of the fore arm's inner side looks something like this: \__/ It is the area where the arm articulates at the elbow. -Along the sides are trim pieces. They are raised. -On the wearer's left fore arm (from wearer's view), there are 2 parallel trim pieces that are horizontal. They are not painted a glossy black like the rest of the armor, but rather are matt black color. -There is also a piece of trim on the side opposite of the grill. It is raised just like the other pieces of trim, and is right in the center of the \__/ articulation area of the arm. -On the left side of the grill on the wearer's left fore arm, are 3 missile greeblies of sorts. Must have a metallic sheen to it. Plastic and metal are preferred materials for making this (PVC, cast or turned aluminum, etc...) -The grills consists of exactly 13 bars; each one separated by recessed sections. Hope this helps!

You're definitely on the right track. Just needs to be black....
-
Also in regards to the ribbed material at the thighs. I am thinking that it is (or should be for sturdiness) backed by more plastic, which is what really joins the 2 halves together. The ribbed material for one looks real straight (no wrinkles), abd it would help it from ripping I think. I'm going with this approach, mainly due to keeping it all together in an organized format. Also, new pics. http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2016/09/new-batch-of-rogue-one-stills-uncovered.html?m=1

Thank you for the speedy response Can't wait to see what you whip up, and I'll definately ask you about what is and isn't good looking in the future for my costume I actually am working on the legs right now! If my suggestions in the CRL were phrased in a confusing way and you need a more simplified version of it, feel free to contact me via pm

Great job on the buckles Mark! Keep it coming Btw Mark, are you guys talking about the shoulder straps when it comes to the rubber matting option? I haven't seen any rubber straps on the DT so far, unless you are referring to the gaskets...? Btw, does anyone know if there will be a basic approval for the DT on the CRL? So far everything I've seen people give the green light on is more Centurion Level than anything (trying to find the exact material and no other options that are close). On the Kylo Ren CRL, we don't have exact replicas of any of the fabric, and the monks cloth 4x4 (versus the basket weave 3x3 on the actual robes) is approvable for basic. I'm not attacking anyone by any means Just really hoping we have a basic approval for "close enough" materials that can be made to work, I honestly can't afford the exact stuff or keep ordering things online I'm one of those poor chaps that has to settle for "close enough" on certain materials (not the armor though. That must be as SA as possible honestly)

It will only be a matter of time....... time before the Death Trooper is as famous as the Sand Trooper....... but for now, we must let the wheels - the wheels of the Special Ops Detachment, turn..... -
Par_'s Rouge One Deathtrooper W.I.P. for 501st
Par_ replied to Par_'s topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Thank you very much! Don't worry Even if it doesn't reach 501st, it will still be fun to have a costume that's not a cheap Halloween bit of fabric I will change the shape of the shins a bit. It's too much of a cone shape, and with a heatgun (and with hand shaping) I'll angle it straighter at the top and pinch the very bottom of it so it has a muscle shape to it (and so it allows me ankles comfort. It's too much of a circle when I roll it up and it so pains my ankles! It needs to be an elongated oval from front to back, and not side to side). More to come
