I painted the tube stripes (Blue Angel Blue), painted the heads of the screws (Meltonian 621 Bright Red), and attached the vocoders on the new helmet. I also removed the sticker tube stripes on my old helmet and painted (Blue Angel Blue) new tube stripes on it because the old ones were backward (and no one ever commented). I didn't add black stripes to the cheeks or the back grey panels yet. I will also, at some point, add a fan and some padding to adjust how the new helmet fits.

Magmatrooper Boot Paint Advice
ThomasDurbin replied to DeathMOS30's topic in Armor Tips, Tricks and Tutorials
I use Meltonian boot paint. I believe the color is bright red. I'll get the numbers off the can and post the info soon. I really like the color match with my red armor. But, I do have to repaint the boots about once/year. I'd like to try the acrylic paint from Angelus see if it lasts longer. -

Yes, new and old comparisons. Also, I'd like to have a team help me update the CRL at some point soon, maybe get started after CVII. I hope to see some others in the new armor at CVII and gets some photos together. TD

You can see my "old school" Red armor in the CRL. I have a set of the new ATA red armor I'm just starting to work on. I hope to have the second helmet done so it can be on display at CVII while I wear my old red armor. I'm anxious to see it next to someone wearing a set of the new armor and how they look in photos. For my new set of red armor, I haven't decided about the holster, but I want a canvas belt, will leave boxes red, will probably use fabric gloves since I already have a couple of pairs with other armor (TX and TK), and will use the lens material included with the helmet. ["I know that we're not that many Magmas yet, but I'd like us to be as identical as possible. So on the options, what have you other troopers chosen? Plastic or canvas belt? Red or black drop boxes? Do you use anh or esb type of holster? Do you use rubber or fabric gloves? Do you have Black, Smoke or dark green lenses in the helmet? I was planing to use: Plastic belt, Red boxes, esb holster, rubber gloves, green lenses. "]

Did you do the tube stripes with a template or free hand? Your work looks great! Have you finished the set yet?

Looking good! I think the thighs might need to go up a little so we see some black between the knees and shins and close the gap between the thighs and cod some. The shoulder bells might need to go up a little, too. Your armor looks great! I really need to start on my new set, but I love my original set too much to stop trooping in it! Have you trooped in it yet?

Nice job!

New Magma Trooper reporting in...

Congrats and welcome! -
Very nice! Can you post the paint specs Brand, code #, etc? Also, I'm hoping to see several of the sets of Red armor together some day. I've been the only one at 2 Celebrations and the only one in MWG. I am wondering how well the new red ABS, the original/older red ABS, and some of the painted red match when stood together.

Yes, we are few and far between. The Royal Guard Stormtrooper (aka Magma Trooper) is always a hit and people ask about it a lot. Sometimes, when they ask "Why red?", I simply say I bathed in the blood of my enemies.

Thanks for posting about your build. It looks great and it's great to see the Trooping photos!

On my boots, I use Meltonian NU-LIFE Color Spray that I buy at a local shoe repair shop. The color is 621 Bright Red. I repaint mine about once/year. I started with some old brown boots I found on e-bay, used acetone to strip them, let them dry for a day, then painted them with the 621 Bright Red paint.

I use red boot paint and usually repaint my boots once per year. I wonder, does the automotive paint last longer???

Working on my Magma (pix included)
ThomasDurbin replied to Chris TK9591's topic in Crimson Stormtrooper
For any of the TK and TK-like armor, I suggest gluing the shoulder straps to the front and letting the back float. The way I suggest to do this is to use black velcro going from the under side of the chest piece to the underside of the tabs on the back piece. That also makes it adjustable and essentially invisible because the black velcro is against your undersuit. -

I use boot paint and have to repaint mine about once per year. I think I got the paint spec in the CRLs before we finished them or at least added it in a comment on the CRL thread. I'll have to get the boot paint info from home for anyone that needs it. -

Looking good, but I agree with the previous comments about gluing, all seams possible and the shoulder straps in front. E6000 has worked great on my thigh and shin pieces and I'm about to redo my forearms and biceps. You can get Red velcro from a few sources. I think I ordered mine via amazon.com. The quality is reasonable, though it's not industrial strength. I am looking forward to getting my new red armor kit this month. Welcome to the Red armor army!
