Ok thanks for that insight.

Ok so a lot has happened since my last post. I decided to order a new helmet that fit me better, and I ordered it from CyberCraft. I first printed and built my own helmet, but my build plate is too small, and consequently the helmet would not fit on my head. Now it is a display piece. But anyway, I ordered it from CyberCraft, and it took twice as long as they said it would. Also, I got a notification that it had been sent, I waited for it to arrive, and what I found in my mailbox was a letter saying that it was still coming. When I asked them about it, they said they sent a letter with the tracking number just so Etsy wouldn't penalize them for being late. It actually arrived almost a month after that. This seemed pretty shady to me. Anyway, I finally got it, and I had to install some wire mesh beneath the vents. Also, I had them custom paint to CRL standards. It would not have compliant otherwise. With my helmet done, I was finally ready for submission. I took photos and submitted: After about a week, I heard back that I needed to do some revisions. I needed to paint the chest buckles to be more silver, then weather them. I also needed to weather the forearm cylinders, and all silver parts on the helmet. Also, I needed to add some foam inside the forearms so they fit better. I also needed to add two black elastic cords to bridge the gap on the inside of the bicep pieces. In case there's anyone else out there like me, since the cords are black and the armor is black, I didn't even see these cords on the CRL. But they are there, and so they need to be there on ours too. After I did these revisions, I submitted again: After this, I was accepted. That just happened this past week. I was advised that I might want to do some more weathering on the silver parts, and maybe add some extra padding inside the helmet to reduce the bobblehead, but I was still accepted. It's been quite a journey. I'm sure there will be a million things I want to fix after my first troop, but we'll see. I've signed up for my first troop on April 5th. Thanks to everyone on here who has helped me in this journey.

Ok, so I tried on all the armor today for the first time. I still need to do the belt, and the cod is going to be attached to the belt, so those are not there. Also, looking at the photos I can see that I need to make sure that the ab plate sits lower and the back plate sits higher. Aside from that, does this look good? https://imgur.com/a/Fs8TqsG

I had the same question and based on the comments on my WIP I ended up going with a Tripon rather than a CyberCraft. Link to that is below, which has a link to the document mentioned above. Not sure how valuable that will be to you, but might be to someone in the future. One note on the Tripon helmet is that it’s pretty big on my head, fyi.

Oh I thought those two were one and the same, I apologize for mixing that up. Thanks for the info, I guess I will just print a backing on my own then.

Oh thanks @Chaos, that’s awesome! Good to know what others do. I’m interested to hear what he says.

Ok so I am nearing the end of printing, and have spent the past month sanding, priming, painting, gluing, etc. A couple things I am confused about are the panel behind the "ladder detailing" in the forearms how the cylinders attach to the forearm. 1. For anybody that has MCM (Tom Campbell) files, once the forearms are printed, there is no backing to the ladder detailing as shown in the photo below, the holes are just open. Is there a file I'm missing? If not, how do you recommend I make my own? 2. Also, I don't see any piece to connect the three cylinders to the forearm. Again, am I missing it or do you all do it a different way?

Yeah that’s what I figured 😂

Update: My Jim Tripon undersuit came today. The material is pretty incredible, and it fits well, though I do have some trouble lifting my arms up. I tried it on with my boots and am happy with how it’s looking so far. I’m also in the midst of printing my armor pieces. I’ve done quite a few already, but still have a bunch of the big pieces left. I’m going over to a trooper’s house tomorrow to learn about sanding/post processing.

This week was pretty eventful. I dove headfirst into the world of 3D printing for the first time, got a printer, set it all up. It was very exciting. After a few test prints I started in on the armor, which is printing now. I have a local trooper who is showing me the ropes. I know I’m still a long way off but right now I’m very excited. I also went to a troop for the first time today, where I served as a handler. It was so much fun and as always all the troopers there were so welcoming. I’m so looking forward to joining your ranks!

Yes, I read your cautionary tale, sorry about that.

Update: My boots from KeepTrooping arrived today. I was shocked, since I only ordered them on April 12th and I was prepared to wait much longer to receive them. They look pretty awesome. The only thing is that the laces are pretty short. Has anybody else switched them out for longer ones? I checked the CRL and I can't see why not, since they are hidden beneath the flap.

Cool, thanks for that info. It appears you don’t have any side foam, I’m guessing that’s because your head fills the space better than mine? I’m wondering if after I have fans, speakers, battery packs etc it will just naturally fit better because of all the stuff in there.

No worries, it has been glued back on and is as good as new.

So the helmet arrived yesterday, and unfortunately it looks like one of the tusks broke off in transit. As soon as I got it I also went to an armor party at my local garrison where I met a bunch of people and learned a lot. When I was there, I decided to try 3D printing my armor instead of getting it from 850. I initially shied away from that because I was intimidated by the amount of work involved, and because I wasn’t sure about the quality of the material. After seeing some printed armor in person yesterday, I no longer have any fear about the quality, I was quite impressed. I’ve never been able to handle any of this armor in person so that was huge for me. As for the work involved, I exchanged numbers with one of the other troopers there who will be teaching me everything I need to know and helping me every step of the way. Side note, I just want to say I’m so amazed at how welcoming everyone in the 501st has been, from this forum to my local garrison. It was definitely daunting walking into an armor party where I knew nobody, but I really had no reason to be nervous. Anyway, the last hurdle of the 3D printing is the actual printing. I don’t have a printer, but I actually recently decided to get one and this is another reason to do so. Plus, the trooper that will be helping me has one and said he’ll help me with the printing. Back to the helmet, I got some adhesive and reattached the tusk and another little piece that came off with it. I have decided to repaint the helmet, so this piece will be repainted at some point. My next step is padding the interior. I have the opposite problem as some others on here, and the helmet is very large on my head. Even with the helmet padding I got on Amazon, my ears don't even touch the sides. So I was looking through the forums here and thought about hard hat suspension. I ordered the suspension by itself and I'll see if that works. I would still like padding on the sides and back though. I thought about using some foam I have laying around, but I'm not sure how to adhere it to the interior. I didn't think glue would work very well on the foam. So I'm open to suggestions. I'm just not sure what to use that will be big enough, soft enough, and stick enough.

So I took @MKE-Trooper up on his offer and am taking his helmet. I'm excited to see it, thanks brother!

It appears I am not part of Club Big Head, as I measure 22” 😂 I’ve wondered about the 3D printed helmets. How is the quality compared to the plastic variety?
-
After doing some research, I’m rethinking the Cyber Craft helmet. I could have adjusted the paint job, but I’m afraid of too big of a mismatch in quality, which is a pretty big deal on the face of the helmet. Also, I ran into this post on the DT builders FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DeathTroopersBG/permalink/6661265830578343/?mibextid=W9rl1R So as far as I can tell, the best three options are 850, Denuo Novo, or Jim Tripon. I am worried by the photos of the paint job on the 850 helmet. DN would probably be the highest quality, but it appears that their release date for the helmet keeps getting pushed back. So I am still researching and will be scouring the forums for info, but if anyone wants to drop it here feel free.

Thank you for alerting me on this, and I was able to see the document. I also found the post where @Chaos talks more in depth about this, in case anyone else is interested, here: Thanks again.

Wow thanks so much for that. I obviously don’t have the eye for this yet because I had no idea. I’ve liked Cyber Craft the best out of all the ones I’ve seen, so I don’t mind making these adjustments when the time comes. I’ll definitely want to see a photo of the back though, you’re right. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the welcome. It made the most sense to start with the soft parts and work outward, so I’m glad to hear others agree. Thank you so much for the reminder about measuring in metric, as an American I would have given Jim measurements in inches without even thinking. I haven’t seen CrowProps for boots so I will be looking at that now too, thank you.

Hi everyone, Long time listener, first time caller. I'm totally new to this, and am learning as I go. After years of thinking and researching, I've decided to start my build, and want to start with the Death Trooper. I haven't ordered anything yet, but below is the list of pieces that I am planning on.
