  1. Red Cap arrived and fits pretty snug on the torso (ordered a 44 when I am normally a 46), and I'm tempted to go a size up, but I'll stick with it so as to be more form fitting per the CRL and the need to fit flak/armour over it. Red and black elastic and webbing is in the mail. Another thing to discuss from eyeballing the ref pictures: Anyone recognize what this is holstered on Weir's left hip? (E-1 Enforcer, BR-36 blaster pistol without scopes? Vibroknife?)
  2. Hi all, As someone planning a hybrid Storm Commando / Shadow Scout and Weir, some questions on some googling: I cannot confirm if these are released Black Series figures or whether they have been "user enhanced", but wanted to discuss: 1. Pauldron on the Scout on left (and seemingly a Deathtrooper's E-11D), and 2. Looks like a modified E-11 with extended stock and perforated barrel housing on the right? (and M203-looking grenade launcher tube?) What is that? Probably not authentic figures? There's also a Deathtrooper with a cape in the diorama... Not an issue, and I know people wear them anyway/up to your GML, but I'm posting because they aren't in the CRL and I'd really like to buy a pauldron for the Scout... Cheers, Aes
  3. Thanks to you both! A 20a seems also more ...in scope. 😉 Red cap suit and strapping/velcro due today -- let the soft parts commence!
  4. Hi all, Diving into this! Two initial thoughts: 1. Getting ready to order my armour, and I think I will go with Chef's Storm Commando kit (armour + helm). Checked the Pathfinders forum as well as Specialist applications here, and it seems well accepted! (showing retired on the forum). Any concerns with using a Shadow Scout kit as a base for Weir? 2. I am thinking to go matte, should it be glossy? (CRL seems glossy... better ask). 3. Looking at the CRL and the reference pictures, I see the DLT-19 is an option. Wanted to bring attention to this: Image on the right is from the ref pics (X-wing: Rogue Leader #2). I immediately noticed the profile of the stock of the weapon: The DLT-19/D/X have a much thinner stock. The 20a is the only thicker one, that has a 'greeblie' on the stock, and this round tube before the scope (iron sight?) I'd rather print a DLT-20a than a 19! (I've seen others on the forum have used AprilStorms' STLs for this). Would this be an acceptable basis to do a 20a for a General Weir build? (That said I think I read that it takes three references (not just one) for such a thing?) Thanks, -T
  5. I'm having a close look at it appears the lens colour is the difference between a Scout and General Weir? (Also Weir doesn't have the "Accurate rear helmet "bar code" striping pattern"). I admit I was also thinking doing a Weir means access to two different costumes, also the ability to carry two (canon) different heavy blasters at times...
  6. @Blackwatch (Yay highland regiments!) Howdy, can I ask what your nose/head circumference are? I've also got a big-ish head (just ask my wife...) as I'm at about 24" at the nose (MLB fitted cap at 7 1/4"). For this reason I'm also considering a helmet print to be safe... Cheers
  7. If I may, I like to request the download link -- I agree to the terms of service and will use the STLs for my suit only. I am in planning to do a Weir (starting with sewing the soft bits), and will wait for someone to run a red TK at some distant later date...
  8. Hello, new guy here looking to think about a Crimson! (my first armor…) I've done some reading between here and FISD, but have some outstanding / dumb questions I hope to bother you with. (Let me say first I have benefitted enormously from the WIP threads here and from Rat's pinned WIP in particular…) 1. Shooting for Specialist from the outset (pay once, cry once!) Yell at me when I am off track! 2. I think I gather that green, straight lenses are preferred for the bucket, although the CRL mentions curved lens are acceptable. This makes me ask whether... 3. Are the Crimson and Shadow essentially an ANH Stunt with the CRL's specialist mods? (but a Hero is acceptable re: bubbled lenses?) 4. I'm in Canada so I think I am preferring AP but also looked at AM and WTF (AP for me avoids dealing with customs). Put another way, I can’t find anyone that carries a crimson kit anymore, and only one that carries a shadow trooper. It would seem therefore that people typically buy a white armour and paint it? (since it likely has to be painted to a more gloss red anyway, or do people wait for a crimson run?) 5. I had to read up on four bumps and three screws on the bucket ear, and the neck trim S-profile (normally provided?); butt plate joints and cover strip method; return edges. I'd be inclined as a noob to get a trimmed kit, but do you recommend that I get an untrimmed kit? (put another way, any known issues with vendors trimming in a manner that violates the SO L2/Specialist CRL? 6. What version of E-11 does the Crimson use (ANH? ROTJ?) I did find an STL pack that in theory includes all pieces for all versions, but I should ask what's preferred as tested and true. I'd definitely also do a DLT-20a, is there a different set of STLs that are preferred for that than AprilStormProps'? 7. I note it’s been some time since there has been a crimson WIP thread, would you advise that I shift gears to a Shadow instead? 8. May I annoyingly ask: I'm not up on latest tech really, but heard a large scale Bambo is coming in the winter-ish. If you could buy a new (large scale, optimal) 3d printer to support projects like this, what would you get? Neptune 4 Max? Mars 5 Ultra? I don't know anyone that messes with resin... just PETG. Cheers, Tom/Aes
