how to dye white boots black?

There's some good info on fisd on dyeing/painting black to white, but if the con is weeks away and you can't find black boots, what do you use in worst case scenario? The kiwi leather dye I use for my combat boots works great on those but I tried it on some "emergency" spare white boots as an experiment and it keeps rubbing off

You may need to prep the leather first. I used a auto motive vinyl paint on mine. It wears off a bit after a while at stress points of the boots but not horribly so.
