Rogue One Death Trooper Research/Build Thread

Recommended Posts

Started this on FISD, but looks like the general assumption is these will end up under Spec Ops, so copying this here!

With the release of all the great photos from SWCE and the Rogue One panel showing the Death Troopers escorting Director Krennic in, I'm more committed than ever to make this my next build thread. My goal will be to have something in time for the premiere. That will obviously depend on the availability of resources. So this thread will be part research documentation and part build thread. I'm calling on the amazing talents and knowledge within this detachment to assist in identifying the various parts. Here's my initial parts list with potential resources.

Helmet: Phoenix Props

Excellent detail and comes with the viewfinder - ORDERED

Armor: 850 Armor Works

Looking forward to seeing more progress on this - ORDERED

Gaskets: TBD

Sister Margaret's has opted not to pursue the DT gaskets, and can't say I blame em! Looks like I'm gonna have to take a crack at making my own.

Boots: Doc Martens Talib Boots

Unfortunately, the Jered's are no longer available, so I have purchased the Talib. The sole is identical and a minor mod to the back should be adequate - COMPLETE

Boot lace cover: TBD

Gloves: Endor Finders

No question that the DT gloves are black version of the FOTK glove. I have ordered mine from EF - ORDERED

Belt: Ribbed Rubber Matting

Supposedly available at Home Depot and can be found on ebay - ORDERED

Leather Pouch: TBD

Vader Belt Buckle: TBD

Decided to 3D print my own! We'll see how it turns out.

Belt Pouches:TBD

Perhaps the FOTK pouches offered by TK-4510 would work for these. There appear to be 3 of the long rectangular pouches with hard covers on this kit.

Blaster Pistol: SE-14R Light

shawnmorgan13@aol.com - COMPLETE

Blaster Rifle:procoprint

http://www.procoprint3d.com/product-page/4ae8a5c2-06bc-880d-a4a4-82182236e992

Lot of details similar to an E-11/F-11 (Huengstler counter, rear scope feature, etc)

Specialist Variant

Pauldron:Trooperbay

https://trooperbay.com/sandtrooper-stormtrooper-shoulder-pauldron

Looks like a black sandy pauldron

Shoulder Pouches (3 rectangular): Trooperbay

https://trooperbay.com/costuming-accessories/sandtrooper-leather-mp-40-magazine-pouch

Looks identical to the sandy shoulder pouch, only in leather and with black stitching

Ammo Vest

Modified Condor Chest Rig 1051

Magazines

HK G3 PTR-91 20round Magazine - COMPLETE

Anything I've missed? Hopefully this will come together smoothly!

I've also made a start on this although you have progressed it further.

So far I have the base boots on order, part of the shoulder buckling system and have a possible source for the Vader style belt buckle.

To fill in a couple of blanks on your list I can tell you that:

  • the sidearm is an SE-14R Light Repeating Blaster;
  • the belt is very similar to the FOTK but by my estimates (based on scaling from the photos) is approx 80mm wide. I suspect that it has been cut from a fine ribbed rubber anti-slip floor matting

Good luck with your build.

07/20/2016 - Edited belt width estimate as I reviewed my belt buckle sizing based on the new photos here.

The Shore Trooper thread has links to two suppliers in the US who are opening pre - orders for gloves soon. Endorfinder seems to be the cheaper at $55. Hope they ship to the UK!?

Hi Greg. Great that your journey has started.

An observation on the Talib boots - the Dr Martin bits on the SWCE costumes have been confirmed as the Dr Martin Jered boot which among other things has a vertical leather strip running from the heel to the top of the boot. The Talib style does not have it.

There are other differences too but this is probably the only one that is visible once the armour etc is in place.

I don't know about other garrisons but I know that the UKG would be concerned about this?

Also the in development CRL has this vertical strip specified, but of course it is in development so can be changed. I'd be interested on what others think?

Just my opinion Mark, but that is going to be an extremely tough qualifier for a ton of people. The Jered's are pretty much gone. It should be more of a level 2 kind of thing unless someone steps forward and makes a shoe to match.

Yeah, that's a good idea.

Great Idea for level 2.

However this is a known item, and has since been discontinued and if they are to be that stringent we would only have 1 or 2 actual approved costumes Legion wide...if that..

The sewn strap on a rear boot that faces the rear is rather small and doesn't take away from the overall look at all.

I would think that anyone outside of Doc Martens would have a tough time making this sole as well which is another obstacle.

Definitely a level 2 item in my opinion or maybe level 3?

Great thread thus far thank you!

Just found a pair of my size jered boots in black at www.todaysgoodlife.com

Fingers crossed these arrive in a timely manner.

So I went online and ordered a set myself and was denied. I tried twice more and the message was to contact my issuing card provider.

Upon doing that they mentioned the card was trying to be ran out of China.

So I check again on the site and according to Web resources, domain is in Russia but billing out of China but advertising in UK.

I'm so so tempted to get a pair. More research is in order
