The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

Special Notes:

  • The armor parts shall be Red and made from one of these types of materials or like materials: Fiberglass, ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), or HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene).

Required Costume Components

The following costume components must be present and appear as described below for approval

Head

For 501st approval:

  • The head must be a high-quality representation of the reference images made of vac formed plastic, or a fiberglass-like material
  • Head bolt on the top and two side ear bolts
  • Back of head circular indentation is identical to C-3PO's
  • Eyes are yellow with 3 LEDs in each eye at a set design.
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Neck

For 501st approval:

  • Neck ring is identical to C3PO's
  • Should overlap at the back and fit into the head all the way around neck ring
  • Must be of plastic material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Torso

For 501st approval:

Front:

  • Two throat pistons on either side of the gear/valve
  • Belly circles are exactly same configuration on C-3PO's torso
  • Two round bolts join the side torsos together
  • Shoulder rings should attach to the torso
  • There are four greebles: 1 greeble on the left side and 3 on the right side identical to C3PO's
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

  • Shoulder rings must spin on a bearing type system
  • Shoulder bell must be on a hinge so it opens

Back:

  • Shoulder bell is directly attached to shoulder ring
  • Back torso plate are identical to C-3PO's
  • Rings should be between torso and shoulder bells
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Abdomen

For 501st approval:

  • Ribbed, rubber material is stretched around the stomach and attached on the right-hand side with either a zipper or Velcro
  • Various colored wires are attached to the front and back surface of the material
  • Wires are interwoven through each other to give the appearance of wiring inside a droid body
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Arms

For 501st approval:

  • Consists of bicep sand forearms identical to C3PO's
  • Must be hinged at the elbow
  • Must have visible inner and outer pistons
  • Decorative piston permanently attaches to each forearm
  • Must have three arm details
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Hands

For 501st approval:

  • Hand plate covers top of each hand
  • Three small stationary pistons are located on the top of the back of each hand
  • Individual armored pieces slip over each finger
  • Four knobs sit over the finger exits on the plate
  • Black glove must be worn under hand armor pieces
  • Wire decorations adorn the palm of the glove to replicate droid wiring
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Shorts

For 501st approval:

  • V-shaped shorts identical to C-3PO's must fit inside the legs freely
  • Shorts have a Philips head bolt on each hip
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Legs

For 501st approval:

  • Legs are identical to C-3PO's
  • Each leg consists of a solid thigh piece and a hinged two-part calf
  • A piston is attached to each outer knee joint
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

For level two certification (if applicable):

Feet

For 501st approval:

  • Feet are identical to C3PO's
  • Must be rubber style shoes or vacuumed formed ABS shoe covers
  • Shape and proportions must match the comic book resource material

Under Suit

For 501st approval:

  • Black non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos/designs.

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present must meet the guidelines.

There is a stronger case for this being mostly aligned with the alliance which it is the majority of its function. Unlike Triple 000 who has a clear cut role in the empire.

However there is grey area with this droid:

Canon: it was serving the alliance

Non canon: it was programmed as serving the first order

Legends: left by a smuggler in the alliances care and used as an espionage droid

It doesn't hurt to try and if it does end up only as Rebel than it is what it is.

I am wondering what it will end up being since the new toy debuted this year if there will be more addition to his story or if they leave him as is.
