Seyn Marana CRL - NO LONGER APPROVABLE

Recommended Posts

All, the LMO team is pulling the SEYN CRL. I can only direct you to the LMO team on the topic and advise not working on the costume until you do. The reasoning was lack of visual references. - Steve

Description: Seyn Marana

Prefix: TX

Detachment: Spec Ops Detachment

Context: Star Wars: Battlefront 2

Seyn Marana was a female human who served the Galactic Empire. During the Imperial Era, Marana studied at the Imperial Academy of Uyter where she graduated at the top of her class a year early. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, Marana along with Senior Lieutenant Iden Versio, Del Meeko and Gideon Hask was drafted into Inferno Squad, by Admiral Garrick Versio. Possessing an eidetic memory, Marana was a master cryptologist and a superior shot who could take out any foe at over five kilometers.

For Iden Versio and Gideon Hask CRL, please visit the Jolly Roger Squadron Detachment.

The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

While the Spec Ops Detachment does not have any detachment specific costume certification programs, some parts of the costume below may be shared with other detachments that do. Features listed in blue or red are not required for 501st approval, but are noted here for those interested in these additional details.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

· Any uncertainties or questionable aspects of the submitted costume should be brought to the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the legion forum.

Why a tk belt? Iden got one, but both Gideon and Meeko is sporting a officer belt. Wouldn't it be more natural to go the same route? Or make it optional, one or another.

It will put some space between the two female characters of the squad. And Also since regular belts are standard for both regular pilots and intelligence officers.

well since the book is the main reference i will go ahead and change to an officer belt.

I do agree with making her different than Iden for contrast. I just wish we had more information than the book :(

I know Seyn is a female character. Is there any gender restriction on this costume? I'm a bald guy with a beard so I wouldnt troop without the helmet. Would that be allowed? I wasn't sure since she is a face character, and that is new to me. Thanks.

Yeup like ISBEAR has said the face part is optional so as long as you build to the CRL specification it shouldnt be a problem. There have been many female approvals for male characters such as hux and others so it shouldnt be a problem. :D

I just saw tht the Seyn CRL is out now. I must admit, that I did not pay much attention on this matter in the past, as the Inferno Squad is just not my cup of tea. But I read the book and that's why I'm wondering what kind of reference material was used for the CRL. In the thread it says, that the book was used. But in the book there is no description of Seyn's Suit. So how do we know that, for example she was not wearing a TK Belt but an Officers Belt? I was under the impression that to get a costume approved it has at least have to have two references. And that a single reference in a book is not enough.

I don't want to make a fuss here, please don't get me wrong. It is just, that we are facing a small discussion here in Germany. Some people are already stating, that now they can make every costume which is just mentioned in a book... Thanks.

Hi

ya know in all honesty it was a bit of a challenge to figure this out since the reference of her is on the cover of the book and her back is turned. We decided to go with some general guidelines of the inferno squad basic outfit for her and i thought it made sense in t e pretext of her being with del, iden, and gideon. So since they was enough reference for them at least in my personal opinion it was easy to get a sense of yes she would probably be wearing this too. I understand where you are coming from with the references and how it was usually done but it seems since we had enough of the others and they all spanned the same thing we were able to come up with what we have for a CRL.

Now your garrison shouldn't make the assumption that they can make any costume they want from a book and that would be extremely ill advised to take that position based on this specific instance. Hopefully that all makes some sense.

The key here that is often lacking with other costumes is the continuity with her squad mates. They all have like-pieces that we can references and we do get a back view of Seyn from the book cover that we can also use for additional details. That is one of the key reasons her costume is much simpler than the other ones. Hope that makes sense.

I was just reading through Seyn's CRL and it seems very similar to Iden's with a few differences. Her outfit seems like a good first step while working toward getting the extra pieces for Iden's completed.

One item that I noticed that could be different is the back plate. Is this actually the case?

For Seyn:

  • Back plate contains detailed "O II" design.
  • There is a small, circular indentation below the right shoulder strap connector on the back plate.

For Iden:

  • Back plate contains detailed "O II" design.
  • There is an oval indentation below the left shoulder strap connector on the back plate.
  • There is a small, circular indentation below the right shoulder strap connector on the back plate.

With the addition of the second bullet for Iden, does this mean that we can not use the same back plate for both ladies?

What else am I missing which could make it challenging to switch from one of of the ladies to the other?

Thanks!

Hi

In theory you could use the same back piece however i would just fill in that indentation to make it look as if it is not there. I can see that easily being done now other thing to keep into consideration is do you want it permanently filled or not?

So technically you could actually just with a small modification for Seyn.

As for other things they have different belts and no pauldron for Seyn.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

I gave this very much thought, but as the first approvals of Seyn took place I've decided that I have to start a discussion in this matter. I did not want to make a fuss but I'm afraid I have to, as this CRL is not only against my personal view of the CRL Database, but also against the rules.

First I like to give my personal point of view on this issue:

I think our CRL should not be based on assumptions and maybes, but on proper reference material only. We should nerver assume what might be logical or what a character would probably use or wear. In the IOC we had a huge dispute about an optional costume accessory: The rain poncho from rogoue one. The poncho was seen in the movies only in black. But a green one was added as optional, also for the Line Officers. The ones responsible pointed out, that it would be only logical that the green officers would wear a green rain poncho, and I do not argue that in the Galaxy far far away they would. However we can't base a CRL on our assumptions. Otherwise we could also assume, that a grand admiral would war a white poncho with golden epaulettes and add it to the Thrawn CRL. You see where this is going. It was a very emotional discussion and some people got quite angry about the topic. At last a poll was held and the green poncho was dismissed by the members of the IOC. However the LMO has not yet followed that decision.

Now what the guidelines and rules are saying about this matter:

In our databanks under the LMO documentation there is a character approval statement. In this statement it says under additional notes:

  • The character must be represented visually by an officially authorized Star Wars publication. Full body front/back/side reference must be available. Costumes based only on text descriptions cannot be approved.

So to make a long story short: The CRL is simply against the rules. We should not accept a CRL which is against the rules. I don't understand why our LMO did not enforce the rules, stated in his own job description. But imho we have a huge problem here. This CRL should be removed from the CRL database immediately before more people start working on Seyn costumes. The costumes already approved maybe stay in the legion due to preservation of the status quo.

Please understand that I don't want to give anybody a hard time. But for me the CRL is the very foundation the legion is build upon. And it should not be endangender by setting precedents like this.

How will we proceed in this matter?
