SrtWnab's DT WIP

Recommended Posts

Well I'm finally making a WIP, as I've ordered most of my kit. Doing a standard dt at the moment with specialist later down the road since im also working on my wifes phasma. I'll be updating this thread slowly for the time being, but will pick up the posts when my kit arrives.

UPDATED AS OF 5/5/20

Armor: Armoryshop (recieved)

Helmet: Armoryshop (recieved)

Gloves: Endor Finders (recieved)

Boots: doc martin talibs (recieved)

Undersuit: The Darkside closet (recieved)

Belt kit: Plastic arms dealer (recieved)

Forearm bands: plastic arms dealer (recieved)

Thigh rubber: plastic arms dealer (I like this idea but may stick with the printed armoryshop part for the time being, anybody have any to get rid of?)

Leather pouch and holster: (recieved)

Soft pouches:  Darkside closet (recieved)

Se14r, DLT19d, and E-11D: Premier props (recieved)

Helmet fans (recieved parts to build myself)

Tusk lighting: elwirecraft panels (recieved)

Voice effects: imperial light and magic (received) and ukswrath add at a later date

i've also bought a roll of craft foam to line my bucket and armor with and have a hard hat liner (snatched an extra from work) I'll be using for the bucket.

I've built, and coated the se14r with fiberglass resin and started both the dlt and e11d once I finish those I'll paint all three together so I'm only doing that once and they all come out the same.

Also started to rough trim my bucket.

I will upload pics later today

Thanks in advance for any help and criticism. It will be needed.

I'll be getting some strapping things on the way in the next few weeks before my armor ships. Probably amazon unless I can source those things here.

@SrtWnab

Austin,

Welcome to the darker side of The Darkside! Looks like you did your research and are well on your way.

Good call on the helmet liner, it gives you so much more room for all the electronics PLUS more air circulation. I did the same with my helmet and am glad I did, while trooping in Hawaii during the summer, it was nice to have that extra air flow.

For those items that you are unsure about or having a hard time finding, go check out the Updated Vendor's list, its pretty complete and offers several different vendors for most items.

I went with an @ukswrath helmet audio system as I prefer the in helmet audio (I hate wires running down my neck seal, plus it makes it easier to take off the helmet for those short breaks during trooping.

If you do have any questions about any of the vendor's items post them up here, we have plenty of people who have used items from every vendor and can give you the pros and cons of each.

Looking forward to watching your build progress, best of luck.

So here the update and pics of what's been done to date. After this post hopefully I can keep up with the wip and actually make some progress. Here's to hoping covid 19 doesnt keep my armor from me any longer than it should.

Recieved the belt kit and forearm bands yesterday

Pic of the boots  scored on ebay tried them on finally and they fit lol

20200321-120113.jpg

Here's the fans, switches, I bought. Doing a couple sets a friend thatd building a tk, my wifes phasma build, and my dt. I had a little battery pack I'm using for testing them may use it or buy different one.

20200211-180523.jpg

Here's the the bucket as it came

20200312-182344.jpg

Started the rough trim, but it's been sitting like that ever since.

20200312-184524.jpg

20200312-191608.jpg

And here's the blasters on delivery day

20200116-165624.jpg

Not the first one I started. But when I needed a break from that monster dlt I went ahead and built the se14r. I have the real (airsoft) scope from Ebay. For $7.98 I'll add to it after its painted. As I said earlier. It's been sanded, coated in fiberglass resin, and sanded again, waiting for primer and paint.

20200118-225729.jpg

And the pic heavy dlt19x. There were SOOO many parts

The premierprops dlt is a great print. As it sits the dlt is about 90% complete. (Minus resin and paint)

Started by gluing the upper reciever together, the lower receiver, used the piece of pvc you need, for alignment worked out great. Next glued  the flashlight portion, glued the scope together, and the front iron sight together. I had to slide a piece of pvc in the scope to get it to stick and for strutcure. Also glued the grips on the frame.

20200110-174607.jpg

20200111-004226.jpg

Next I glued the rails on and the flashlight mount to that part of the barrel shroud. And pieces together the flash suppressor.

20200111-015040.jpg

Added iron sight to front barrel section

20200111-020143.jpg

Flash suppressor glued on to front section.

20200111-020203.jpg

Next section added

20200111-021329.jpg

20200111-021357.jpg

At this point I did a quick mockup to make sure everything was lining up right and slid the pvc back in. After this pic I pulled all the main sections back apart and painted the pvc black so i wouldn't miss any of it when gun paint time comes around.

20200111-023023.jpg

20200112-174848.jpg

And as of right now it's all glued and screwed together. Need to put the "tubing" together. Permanently add the trigger and put some flashlights in, and assembly will be done.

@ukswrath its stalled out at the moment the dlt and se14r are  primed. And I'm waiting for gaskets and armor to show up. Dennis has informed me it's done. But since moscow is shut down I'm pretty much just waiting for it. I guess I really could got going and paint the blasters and work on the helmet lol. Maybe I can get to some of it this week if my kid will go to bed early. I'm an electrician and a foreman for the company I work for so I'm still having to go to work in all this.

update:

I got a shipping confirmation email from armoryshop the other day.  As of right now my tracking number is saying it has cleared Russian customs. BBB day is upon us. I have a couple coats of filler primer on my blasters that I have completed (will post pics soon, my phones dead lol) Also received a voice changer from imperial light and magic yesterday, plan to add it and ukswrath kit in my bucket as well. i have ordered Chicago screws, snap buttons, plastic buckles, webbing, elastic, already had some Velcro, all for strapping. also a sheet of faux leather to build the holster and the leather pouch (can someone give me some dimensions on these?) Hopefully my under suit and soft pouches are close to getting sewed up from darkside closet. I know everybodys behind at this time, and its completely understandable why. @ukswrath you too man. my wifes a nurse so its a little stressful when she gets home right now lol.

As per the CRL - There is a leather or leather-style pouch (approximate dimensions 120mm x 60mm x 25mm) with a single press stud and no visible stitching located between front pouch and the belt box on the wearer's left.  The proposed revised CRL adds "approximate dimensions 4 3/4th x 2 3/8th x 1 inches".

As a side note, the prices for a pre-made pouch like this are unreal.  $68 from Trooperbay.com.  I'm a little skilled in leatherworking and will be making mine, and even thought of offering it to other Death Troopers/501st members for 1/2 that price.  We'll see.

The best I've seen for the holster is in Nanotek's thread linked below.  There's a downloadable template, but it doesn't have any dimensions, though it's a great start and you can figure out the dimensions based on your SE-14R and Nanotek's template.  He hinted at posting a similar build thread for the pouch, but I haven't seen that one posted yet.

Best of luck!

If you print it out full scale it should be about right, I didn't chuck the dimensions in, but if you think it would help...

Thanks @nanotek and @DHKnecht, I have been meaning to reply to his question but have been overcome with work events and this stupid DoD Covid "The Sky is falling" reactions. LOL

Ok off my soapbox.

Since you both answered his question I will go back to working on my latest project.

@SrtWnab  Austin, I got my box from Denis in less than 10 days last week (Russia to North Carolina) when he shipped my FO TIE chest and back. It arrived in perfect condition.

Best of luck with your build,

It's been a very long time since my last update. Pandemic, work, vacation, kid, wife, take your pick lol. I havent made much progress as I've been out of town working in dc for 3 months. I recieved my kit form denis, my undersuit from darkside, and my holster and pouch from a guy on Facebook. Gotta repair a few broken pieces on the armor from shipping. No biggy.  A smart guy would have taken parts to work on in the hotel which I may do next week. But I've been worried about leaving parts in the truck during the heat on go home days. Ill post pics of what I've recieved soon, since I've made almost zero progress.

Word of advice, after you repair your armor pieces, it would be worth it to fiberglass resin coat the backside of your high stress pieces for reinforcement

Alright. Took some time to finish sanding the eyes and rough spots around the bucket sitting in the hotel last night. sanded the under eye pieces and the side of the nose pieces. And filled the holes with spot putty. Anybody have any advice on if these pieces look right now? If so im gluing them in today and spraying filler primer.

im still here guys im just slow as hell. Got wrapped up starting my wifes phasma, and work, life, and my 3 year old son its been tough to keep moving. But ive made a commitment to myself to get this thing rolling.

So where im at....ill get some more pics uploaded asap

my helmet has been sanded, filled, and primed a few times. just needs the final sand and then time to paint black. i found another broken piece though. the grill portion on the front of the helmet armoryshop printed and sent me a new one for a price i cant remember.

i have glued the fangs to the back, glued the cog and part that the shoulder strap comes out of on, and attempted to fix the crack in the back piece unsuccessfully(going to attempt something else tonight)

i have all the parts minus the back covered in resin and started to sand them, and im still planning to add some fiberglass to the backside of the chest and the back at the very least, because of the repairs that had to be done.

i have discovered my shins are printed too small so ill be looking into heating them to form slightly or printing my own set out. armoryshop wants somwhere in the 115 dollar range to print and ship me a new set..............

also started strapping last weekend as i want to strap and fit before painting. Im getting a little done every night. Started with the suspenders from the ab and kidney plates. attached the butt and cod to those plates. and the thermal detonator assembled and screwed to the plate. im at the point to needing to adjust the chest and back to fit together better since they're not exactly a good fit together.

i plan to have some good progress done this weekend as its supposed to be good weather for paint but well see how it goes. between mother nature and the wife and 3 year old.

@Lt. Dan yea that's why I covered in resin. And it's still a pain lol. the harness i made it. Its just nylon webbing and buckles and the cod and butt use the triple lock velcro system that i can't remember who came up with it. Works pretty well but admittedly mine are a little sloppy since I used super glue instead of e6000....im rather impatient lol

Hi @SrtWnab , I am planning to get the helmet and armor from ArmoryShop as well. They mentioned that they didn't include strapping, can I know where and how did you do the strapping for your armor?

And also, can I check if the helmet that you got comes with LED for the NSM monitor??

Thank you!
