TX - 62609 Build Progress and Questions.

Recommended Posts

OK so I have been very slow about this build.  Been enjoying my TS ESB build.  But I am now working on my TX and super excited.  been doing a lot of trimming and that is also what has me bringing questions here.  Do I still need to trim more?  I am going to work on going for Specialist right out of the box, but I want to get this armor just right since our Garrison has no Shadow Scouts now that our one moved away

Please let me know if I need to trim these down even more please. I know I have some sanding to smooth our edges and ensure rounding is proper.  I feel like I still have a lot left compared to everyone else.

Also this is a Walt's kit, I am pleased with it, and like I said it has a lot of trimming done and still to be done.

I am looking for most feedback on the arm pieces.  The bucket has a ways to go.

Thanks

Tom

Welcome!  Great to see you are working towards Specialist.  The helmet will be difficult to tell till it's built but the chin looks like you could trim more off.  As far as the arm pieces...yet the lower edges definitely look as if you could trim some more.

3m speedglas bolts should do it (they're normally part of a welding helmet kit).  for specialist you just need to make sure you get concave ones.

Did yours come with your kit? or did you get them someplace online?  The ones with my kit are to large for Specialist.

Some more work on the Scout this weekend.  Lots of painting, trimming and now a lot of wet sanding to be done.

Found a vendor for the 22mm bolts in the US but it is special order and they cannot order them for another month.

Can someone give me some advice on the last couple of pics for the drop boxes.  One of them looks decent and I was able to trim it up.  The other to me looks like the pull of the ABS was not clean and I may need to get it replaced before I can trim it.  If everyone thinks I can trim it ok, then please advise as I would rather get this all done and not have to go back to the vendor to get a drop box and wait.

Thanks for the suggestions and help so far.

I am very excited to get this done, approved, and then approved as a Specialist.!!!

@tgreen0626 are you referring to the warping in the indentation?  If so, I don't think that will be an issue because you will be cutting a slit in there and inserting a strap which will/should cover that area entirely.

Can you provide the vendor info for the 22mm bolts?

Thx!!!  Double check with vendor that the bolts are concave.  I bought a pack similar to that and they werent.  thonwith some dremel work u might be able to make the concave.  Our recent Swamp Trooper crl model did something like that

Did some more updates to the build thread on Imgur.  Can someone advise if I trimmed to much on the knees.  If I did, I can just print some or get some new ones, if not, then yeah for me as I was worried I just hacked them to much.

Thanks

Knees should be fine.  May want to strap those before painting (as you will need to rivet the upper straps in and the rivets will need to be black).

Thanks @Raider I will pull the strapping out and look at doing that this weekend then if I am still locked down and locked in. LOL.. I had to shift to my 3d printers e-11 and working on finishing that up.  This Scout will have the holdout, e-11 and DLT-19

Been working on the bucket.  Any ideas on best things to finish those last gaps.  The bondo feels like it just wants to crack and I have E6000 with some ABS on the inside seams to keep it.  Just not certain on what else I can do to ensure the cracking does not happen and that the bucket will hold up.

I am hoping to get to some priming on it soon but want it to be solid before I do that.  Prep work is so worth it to make it right.

Bucket update pics are the bottom 2 added.

My bucket (same type of split dome build)...I put abs strips inside as you BUT also fiberglassed the interior seam.  then did the bondo on the exterior...and with that just be patient with the sanding and making sure its nice and smooth

so sounds like maybe a little more bondo and then sand, primer, sand fill primer, sand, primer, oh did I say sand some more...

Thanks.  At least I know I am going in the right direction.

Im considering picking one of my builds back up.  How big is the WTF helmet compared to the Chef or Altmanns out of Australia?

The WTF bucket is almost to tight on my head. I do not know about the others.  I do have a rather large head though and I still fit the bucket.

Hey all!!! Been a while but I moved from IL to NC and been grinding on my Scout lately.  Hoping to somehow complete it in like 2 weeks!!!

Big question, Clear coat? what brand, I used the Satin Canyon Black and I want to protect it, also did you put all the greeblies on first, build the bucket, etc, then clear coat.  Or clear coat the raw painted, then assemble everything.

Thanks again to all who posted a build thread, or helped with advice on my thread.  The big challenge is the boots and making the vest etc next.  Thankfully wife and I make a great team of seamstresses.

I used the same paint and then used a rustoleum satin clear coat.  Its nice to be able to magic eraser off scuffs BUT the finish was a little more shiny then i wanted.

Initially, I assembled armor then painted.  Repainted multiple times over the years and just tape the straps inside the armor and tape off whatever else needs taping off and paint/coat.  You can either put greeblies on and then tape off n paint or wait…main thing try n keep the greeblies matte black (unpainted)

Making progress and I need to greatly update my pics.  I just realized, I do not have the back clips for the TD.  Where does everyone get them from?

Thanks
