WIP IAT - Current Resources

Greetings Troopers!

 

I'm in the process of building an IAT for approval, aiming for a test troop and approval in January. Would love to do a CRL Version 1 with optional items if I can pull it off in time, but at a minimum CRL Version 2. Staying away from the Andor build for now due to the custom clothing (I'm not that great at sewing) and the amount of armoring to create, but would like to move onto that version eventually.

 

Regardless, I've been searching the forums and am very impressed with all the fine setups you've created. The issue I'm finding is that a lot of the information is several years old, with several broken links, closed vendors and/or items no longer available.

 

I'm hoping someone (or all of us) could suggest currently available items/vendors, and then maybe we could pin that topic to allow new troopers to quickly find currently available CRL accurate and/or easily modifiable options? The belt and pouches are still currently available, as are the patches. The suspenders are always going to be custom, but most can source the required elements for them without issue. It's the helmet, coveralls, boots and gloves I'm drawing a lot of 'not found' when searching. Maybe my Google-fu sucks?

I had seen Kessel's but not the other - there was a different vendor list I found, and of course what people had linked at the time they had found them.

 

Not used to Facebook vendors, so I hadn't looked much there. I assume just send them a message with what I'm looking for?

 

From Kessel's:

• Belt - not found
• boots - not found

From Blackwatch's:

• Walt's Trooper Factory (website link) - broken (under helmet and patch)
• Tigg Wol Creations - both down
• HerotecX Facebook - broken
• Elvis Trooper (for imperial code disk) - domain empty
• Elbeco doesn't do coveralls anymore
• Ebay link for coverall is dead/old (but cutting info into search does yield results)
• Esty 2" webbing - not available anymore
• Ebay for Commuter Boots - specific link not valid, and search produces a wide variety of options (not sure which one is (the correct type)

I'm going for a non-Andor version first, to allow me to Troop sooner, and then building the Andor-version as I have time. A few (hopefully) quick questions:

• (non-Andor version) Is the Montana Gold Olive Green spray needed for approval? It seems a much lighter color than normal Olive Drab (at least in pictures). If all the elements are olive drab and work well together with a uniform appearance, will that work?
• (Non-Andor version) The Blauer CDCR Jumpsuit has chest pockets that have angled corners, unlike the reference picture, but is on the approved model/vendor list and the CRL writeup doesn't specifically say the chest flaps must be rectangular. I've got that coverall and just wanted to make sure it was ok unmodded.
• (Non-Andor version) Do the specific pouches matter to approval? The CRL just says "A minimum of 4 small pouches are required, which may consist of any combination of double handcuff, small utility pouches, magazine pouches or other MOLLE style pouches of similar size." So if I used "other MOLLE style" pouches as opposed to the AR tri-mag and other one on the back, that would be ok? Just wanted to confirm before I bought the ones I'm looking at.
• For the Andor version, can additional items be added to the CRL under optional that are seen in the show? If yes, let me know how I can help with that, such as:
  • Helmet with mudtrooper-style goggles
  • Short cape/cloak like Lt. Dorn and other officers
  • DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle (taken off an readily available Imperial weapon rack (saying to me it was used by the soldiers there) and used by Arvel Skeen during the heist)

As for the Facebook vendors, you hit the nail on the head, starts with a message to get more info most of the time. Usually you won't see prices for vendors on their main pages.

following up , ive been off forum for a while. we do need to circle back but the last two, two and a half years have been consumed with Andor and the security troopers. Develoing CRLs alsmost becomes a full time job. 

for a straightforward IImperial Army Trooper  we used a lot of off the shelf resources, and those real word resources change. Either for fashion/style reasons or for production/ need reasons  

The coveralls I used were Elbeco / Los Angeles Sherrifs Dept covealls, which LASO no longer uses, so the company stopped making them. you listed a CDCR suit, im sure it the same I have but I didnt pay nearly that much for mine from Elbeco but that was several years ago. I do the reviews for the Specialists and I have not knocked anyone back for pocket shape since I have BSG style pockets and Im L2.   Another option is dying a pair of regular covealls and adding pocket flaps from fabric. 

Walt still makes all the trooper helmets as far as I know, as does intergalactic supply, whom i reviewed in the forums here.

Theres lots of vendors on etsy makeing code disks, i was on there last night. Another option is to print your own especially if you have a resin printer. 

If you match the setup on the CRL photo, you will never be wrong. We will also be looking to replace all those photos once we get a new CRL model photographed. I will be looking for long straps to be removed and no buckles showing for L2 approval. Nothing like that shows in the source art. Im not a huge fan of that big triple pouch but we have allowed it.  

  

i am in talks with WampaWear to make coveeralls but that is a VERY long term goal Once prototypes are made at the facotry and you go through several rounds of getting the product right, you place your oroder for your run, and wait your turn on the facotry floor I have a history working with WW on this, and know this routine all too well 

I have spoken within the week to HeroTecX. They have suspended orders until March 2025 to cath up on product. 

Wampa makes the hat in olive green, its made of suiting so its going to match their green tunics and jodpurs. You may talk to 20eyesdesign on Etsy shes made me a on of stuff in the past  She does not offer them in green , but its worth talkign to her and see if she can do it. 

The boots have been an ongoing issue. That style of boot fell out of favor and was decorated up with a ton of stitching to appeal to the public. Talk to your GML to see if they would be willing accept a pair of simple engineer boots with round toe cut down to the correct 8 inches for IAT. 

Im kind of getting lost in the back and forth as you describe differnet costumes, so bear with me as I sort through this  a seperate WIP for each would make tracking much simpler. 

You mention Andor. The IAT and the IAT / Andor series costumes are completely different. I do not have a Andor costume, so my build is Imperial Army Trooper ONLY, not the Andor/ Aldhani version.  

regarding additions, we only recognize items that were seen used in the series. There has been discussion of a rewrite, but thats going to take pivoting our (my) resources to that for an extended length of time as we deep dive and investigate each and sort it out in a CRL rewrite discussion. 

Im going to go edit the resource list. Real world resources not specifically used by costume communites come and go.

I was wondering what was going on with herotecX, I've been in contact with them for like the past 2 months trying to find some coveralls, but their responses were very spotty/inconsistent!

I've had zero luck finding any from other sources that are anything close to the WW officer hat color (since I already have an officer uniform). So I guess I'm SOL til 2025 then.

My apologies for the delay in responding - I didn't see your post as I have been working on getting the costume ready.

 

I appreciate all your feedback! We (Renegade Squad) don't have a local GML, so the group is helping me get stuff together and giving me feedback on what has been approved in the past. I have a test troop in January, at which point I've been told we'll take all the pictures and submit them to the Badlands Garrision GML for approval.

 

I hear you, jumping around between CRLs can be confusing. Please pardon my enthusiasm!  I'll limit this thread to the Comic IAT CRL for now, and when I look to do an Andor/Aldhani version next year I'll start a different thread. I know the majority of that CRL is different, but when I typed the original post I was looking at a kind of "build the helmet, use it for now" plan so I could get my TX designation and officially troop while building the Andor/Aldhani version over the next year before rolling it out at our Comic-Con troop in fall of 2025. 

 

IAT (Comic) Status:

• Helmet - just finished printing (with all greebles), will be picking it up this week. The sanding and painting begins! Interior padding and chin cup also assembled.
• Googles - arrived
• Coveralls - ordered, in transit (I live in Canada, so the postal strike is disrupting a lot of deliveries).
• Patches - ordered, in transit
• Montana Gold Spray - ordered, in transit
• Gloves - I had these already from work, just waiting on the spray paint to colour them
• Web Harness - straps and tri-glides arrived. Just waiting on spray paint for tri-glides.
• Belt - arrived
• Pouches - arrived. I got the two cuff pouches for the front and two smaller pouches (to fit the four required small pouches), as well as a variety of other pouches for the back/sides. Hopefully most of them will be good as I tried to stay with the no buckle/zipper theme, but look like pouches a trooper would wear.
• Boots - The search continues... 100% if anything is going to stall the build, this is the item that is going to do it.
  • Question: What are your thoughts of wearing an officer jackboot (say the style approved under the Andor/Aldhani version, which is commercially available) and blousing the coveralls over top of the boot at the 8" height using blousing bands inside to make them look like 8" boots?
• (Optional) E-11 Blaster - printing this week, then the sanding and painting begins...
• (Optional) E-11 Holster - I have a template, will be making it out of olive green nylon to stay with look of belt/pouches
  • Question: for this CRL, is it to be worn on the left or right side?

 

General Question: How important is it that all the components are the same colour of olive drab? I ask because there are shade differences, especially between materials (goggle elastic vs pouch nylon vs cloth fabric vs plastic components, etc.). While I am spraying the helmet (was PLA grey), gloves (were black), and tri-glides (were black), I am hesitant to spray everything. I don't want it to end up looking like a monochromatic "green plastic army man". 

 

I'll post pictures in the next week or so... I am just waiting on having all the bits together (as opposed to pictures of me in normal street clothes wearing the different elements.
