Coating for interior of Death Trooper armor?
Tiderion replied to Tiderion's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
This? https://www.lowes.com/pd/Plasti-Dip-Flat-Black-Flat-Spray-Paint-Actual-Net-Contents-11-oz/3543514?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-pnt-_-ggl-_-LIA_PNT_219_Interior-Stain-Spray-Paint-_-3543514-_-local-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=CjwKCAjwjZmTBhB4EiwAynRmDy_Z7p-s1hsaKe7W9vfQ_aomwN_XnWsEHmcj3NpqAB3LwTPT7Rw1DxoCy4UQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds If so, then what a confusing description. "Can be permanent or removable" Those seem pretty mutually exclusive to me... @Lt. Dan Did you do a single coating of this or some other strategy to make it more permanent? -
Tiderion Death Trooper Specialist build

Everything but the leg pieces are primed and painted and drying/curing, awaiting their clear gloss coat: https://imgur.com/KUJkAZI Can't do the legs yet as my undersuit has not yet arrived from Dark Side Closet, so I don't know how much I need to trim them yet. @Chaos Do you have a link for a good guide on clamshell technique for the shins and for the arm pieces? -

@TheFireAwakens1807 I used two of these: https://www.amazon.com/POVAST-Tactical-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Pressure/dp/B07S66VVNX/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2K0RM3FSFOLSQ&keywords=povast+tactical+flashlight&qid=1650633815&sprefix=povast%20tactical%20flashlight%2Caps%2C71&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyNUFQUkZKMFQ5ODRYJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTI2NzkyM005UDdVNUJRMUlONCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjg2NDU3M0Y0TTBQWE9PMFcwTyZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= They come with a switch to turn them on/off from a cord that's a couple of feet long. I had a friend of mine cut and solder them together so I didn't have to have two switches. While we were doing that, we drilled discreet holes in the PVC pipe that runs down the length of the rifle and ran the cable through that, then I glued the switch on the underside, just forward of the trigger, as pictured here: https://imgur.com/olXSAka -

DLT-19D finished, painted, weathered. Really love Premier Props and would highly recommend. His print was clean, his instructions were clear and logical, and the build came out beautiful. He even has assembly videos on youtube. https://imgur.com/4K1gyZQ https://imgur.com/r1aja14 SE-14r finished, painted, weather. Another great piece from Premier Props: https://imgur.com/0Ff2Lpp https://imgur.com/eOhYkfa -

Just received my DT armor kit from Jim Tripon. It looks great and I'm excited to work on it. However... I put the thigh piece on my bare leg just to see how well it fits and man did it ever scratch the hell out of me. Left countless invisible cuts like I had been crawling around in insulation. I grabbed some sand paper and went to work on it, which helped a lot but boy is there a lot of surface area to cover. Is there anything I can just spray to coat the inside to resolve this issue or am I stuck with sanding?

Questions regarding recess and highlight painting
Tiderion replied to Tiderion's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
@Chaos Thank you for your response, here is my hangup which I think got lost in the shuffle of discussion here - The longform Deathtrooper webpage and the specific coloring guideline do not seem to match: Here it says "may be matte or metallic black" Whereas here it specifically says "Metallic Dark Grey" and then goes on to reference the Tamiya Metallic Black TS40 that you mentioned. https://databank.501st.com/databank/File:Tx_imperial_death_trooper_chest_color_scheme.png So which one can I say is the source of truth? -
Questions regarding recess and highlight painting
Tiderion replied to Tiderion's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I didn't perceive weathering and the recess coloring to be the same topic. Quoting from the official CRL regarding the biceps, it reads as follows: Shallow grooves are present in a pattern matching the photo. -The grooves may be a matte black, metallic black, matte silver, or gray. -If coloring is used, the shoulder bells, biceps, forearms, and thighs must match. Biceps may be slightly weathered but must be uniform with the rest of the costume. Those are separate bullet points on the guidelines, and the coloring instructions (matte black, metallic black, etc) are listed under the grooves instructions, whereas the weathering is a completely separate bullet point. Maybe I'm reading that wrong, but that's what makes the most sense to me. Here is the link of what I'm referencing: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TX_deathtrooper Furthermore, when you look at the zoomed in photo, you can clearly see the offset color of the recessed area: So my question was do those recessed areas' colors need to be the same or different than the abdomen and chest highlight areas? To me the coloring on the bicep recess looks ever so slightly darker, but that could be a trick of the eyes and lighting. The reference for the chest piece also includes a shorter, slightly different list of coloring for these highlights which seems somewhat inconsistent with what's listed on the coloring chart. The recesses and asymmetric panels may be matte or metallic black The reference document says "matte or metallic black" but the hyperlink for the coloring guide lists "metallic dark grey" @Lt. Dan @Chaos Can we get some guidance/clarity on this? -
For the small recesses in the armor and for the accent painting on a couple of the armor pieces ( As seen here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/File:Tx_imperial_death_trooper_abdomen_color_scheme.png and here: https://databank.501st.com/databank/File:Tx_imperial_death_trooper_chest_color_scheme.png) I have a couple of questions: 1. Should the recesses on the rest of the armor pieces match these armor highlights or not? 2. Whether yes or no, what metallic dark grey (I'd assume not spraypaint would be easiest, particularly for the grooves) is a good choice?

See, this is why I come here for this sort of thing. Well spotted, Dan. Thank you. -
TookBreaker's Death Trooper - COMPLETED
Tiderion replied to TookBreaker's topic in Imperial Death Trooper
I wish both you and them well, but I'm not as optimistic as things seem to be getting worse, not better. I ordered with them back in November of 2021 and still hadn't gone into production as of yesterday, so I went ahead and cancelled my order with them and charged back through my bank (Which was actually their suggestion based on the situation), and am currently looking at Jimmy and a couple of other options. -

Reviews seem solid on their website. The only red flag to me thus far is that the ranger finder is permanently attached. I don't know if that's a no-no for 501st approval (I am going for a specialist build) -
I had ordered a full kit from armory prop shops but of course with the world events going on, I have no idea when or even if that will ever be fulfilled. I then ran across this site: https://cyber-craft.shop/products/death-trooper-star-wars-helmet The helmet looks pretty good. Does anyone see any issues with its accuracy? Or does anyone have any experience with this particular vendor?
-
What primer and paint did you decide to go with? And did Jim's kit come with the armor plates for the backs of the gloves and if not, where did you end up getting those?
-
I compared both and I'm going to have to go with everything but the undersuit from Jim, and buying the undersuit from Dark Side Closet from facebook. Pricing it that way I can buy 97% of what I need for my specialist build - armor, helmet, undersuit (Albeit from different vendor), chest rig, belt, pouches, etc, etc - for much less than I can buy just the armor and helmet from ASP. I'm not looking forward to finishing it myself, but I do already own an airbrush for miniature painting if that's a valid strategy. Both sets look quite nice when finished so I guess I'll find out.

I'm working on a Death Trooper build, weighing the pros and cons of each builder. Right now I'm trying to decide between the full set from Jimmy Tipon and the one from Armor Shop Props. Between the two it seems like the price is a wash since Jimmy doesn't offer his finished and shipping is pretty high. Can anyone attest to the quality of each set as far as accuracy, durability, etc?
