  1. Tunic fabric was confirmed as a olive gray denim. That’s gonna be tough to find in an existing jacket to modify though , so maybe stick with olive drab for level 1? And then the olive gray denim for 2? Olive drab with some gray weathering will probably be pretty close. I haven’t seen any clear pics of the collar either. Appears to be a stand up collar, open at the front, different from the officer’s typical full mandarin collar. All we’ve really had for the collar is on the toys. for the zipper I think it’s also mostly guesswork, no clear references that I’ve seen. I’m assuming it’s a hidden zipper style. The tunics do have pockets - breast pockets that connect to the sleeves, and in one shot there appears to be a basic internal pocket aligned with the waist seam, mostly covered by the belt. I’d agree though that if someone was modifying a field jacket, they would want to remove any pockets that are stiched onto the outside off the jacket.
  2. Here's the first draft. Made a couple small tweaks, that probably aren't noticeable at arms' length, but might as well clean things up while I'm at it: Made lines a consistent width Straightened side edges Updated Imp crest with a more accurate version - this one should match what i'm seeing elsewhere in 501st patches The colors are the tricky bit now - I used the picture of the patch from the CRL and sampled those colors for the redesign. I need to compare them against the available thread colors to find the closest match. Here's a link to a PDF, that will print the patch on US letter at the same 3" wide by 5" tall size, just have to check that you aren't scaling the printout, if anyone wants to compare the size. If we need to scale it up/down that's easy. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qE9s3j0ABU7LEkgf_G9c9l044G2GiWFY/view?usp=sharing
  3. So it seemed like the existing supply issue was getting some attention, but who knows at this point - so I'm going to go ahead with this. Here's my plan: Next couple days, I'll finish the drawing and post it for review (it's going to be a close-as-possible copy, just in vector format) If it passes review I'll order a run of patches (probably 100) Once I get a finished item in-hand I'll post pictures for approval If they look good I can also, if needed, send a sample to someone to compare with the previous version. If/when approved, I'll spin up an etsy store for people to order from.
  4. Here's my collection of images - there's a few in there that I don't think have been included in this thread yet. https://imgur.com/a/ow3WUHi And I also collected the hi res promo shots of the hot toys 1/6th scale figure. Obviously the toy can't be used as a reference, but it may be useful to fill in gaps where we don't have any other images. https://imgur.com/a/qeE2SZV
  5. E-10 for the mud troopers, E-10R for the Range Troopers (from the Solo official guide)
  6. Same here, found a hi res image of the original and converting it to illustrator/vector format that those shops usually prefer, but I’ve held off so far waiting to see if there’s movement here. I might end up going ahead with it anyways.
  7. Here's some general notes i've been keeping on found components that have been confirmed so far (some have already been mentioned) Some of these will definitely be level 2/3 parts Gloves Highlander Spec Ops Glove Mfg. #GL033-BK Label on wrist strap removed if present - stitch holes visible on “Standee Trooper” Sizing appears to run a size small - order a size larger than usual Tunic: Custom design (Crossman) Crossman did not recall exact color fabric used Cog patches both shoulders (Screen, Promos) One BTS shot seems to show the newer embossed vinyl style as used on the spaceport security uniforms. Pants: Custom design (Crossman) Used braces/suspenders (Unnamed source, not verified elsewhere) Snap hooks, D-Rings, and sliders for mask and helmet straps: Yugoslavian/Serbian army surplus backpack (Crossman) Mask attachment buckle: Identified but appears to be rare single-supplier part, sourcing in progress Cape, a.k.a. “Slick” Called a “slick” by troopers (Solo Guide) Russian Plash Palatka, with leather grommets, dyed black (Art of Solo) Hero version had curved cut on bottom for better drape/appearance (Art of Solo) Standard Plash can have bottom corner folded up using toggle so that it doesn’t drag on the ground. Some studio shots have the corner all the way down, but could be cumbersome while walking. The stitching of the leather grommets varies - earlier examples have button-hole style eyelet stiching that wraps the inside edge of the eyelet, but later examples just have a circle stitch to simply affix the grommet Some newer versions have brass grommets, but can be removed and replaced with a hand-sewn leather grommet to replicate the appearance of the older versions. There is some waterproofing/wax treatment on the fabric, may need hot washes to remove, and may need 2x dye/wash cycles to darken sufficiently. Ammo pouch Yugo M56 ammo pouch, same as ST (Screen, Promos) Not used by all troopers Some on-screen configs include oiler pouch in standard location above pouch. (Solo guide, Screen) Officer goggles Modified Russian pattern 1938 pilot goggles. (Screen, Promos)
  8. Unfortunately, even the costume designer (Crossman) couldn't remember the fabric used in a recent Q&A. But so far I don't think there's a reference picture out there with sufficient detail of the fabric to say definitively - I have a feeling it might be a regular twill instead of a gabardine. Also All the pics we do have are all post breakdown dept., so the mud/weathering is shifting the color as well. So far it seems that "standee trooper" is our best reference since its a studio shot under normal lighting. Stills from the movie will be tricky to use because of the dark sets, heavy color grading, and of course the mud - everything is going to look really dark and desaturated. I'm hoping we get a display of the costume somewhere so people can take some close up shots in normal lighting - like we've got this one from Disney World of Beckett's cap that shows it to be the kind of olive suiting gabardine that you'd expect in an imperial officer's tunic, but it doesn't appear to be the same fabric as the troopers.
  9. I'm starting an Engineer build, and I've been reading about the supply issues with the patches. I've looked into options to do a custom run of the patches myself - I can convert and prep the artwork into the correct formats, and I've got some rough cost estimates for a 50-100 piece run. (Due to setup costs, it costs nearly as much to do 10 vs 50). After that I'd just want to recoup my costs with the remaining patches. I don't mind taking the up-front risk in case it doesn't turn out well, I just want to make sure nobody would object to me doing this before I invest in the idea. One thing I needed to confirm - is the overall width of the patch 3", 3.1", or 3.25"? (assuming it's one of those three since those seem to the most common imperial uniform patch sizes)
  10. Apart from the nose bridge tensioner, it seems likely to be scratch made. According to a quote from Crossman in the Solo art book, it was based off concept art and then "fabricated". The seal appears to be a sheet of rubber/foam cut to shape in some shots, and in others perhaps a thin sheet folded/rolled over to give a rounded edge.
