CRL Update Discussion - Purge Trooper Phase I: Electrostaff Specialist

Recommended Posts

This should be a straightforward one. I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary:

Posterior Armor

  • Realistic style posterior armor.
  • Armor is painted satin black.
  • Cod and posterior armor connect at the hips.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of grey tones.

Do we need to mention the method of attachment? (single visible snap)

This image is from the baton trooper (same armor components)

spacer.png

Can we actually see this in the game with the same character or in the texture file? If we can't see it but only infer it or see it via texture then it may be a L2 item.

I think we could do it as a Level 2 detail:

Posterior Armor

  • Realistic style posterior armor.
  • Armor is painted satin black.
  • Cod and posterior armor connect at the hips.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of grey tones.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Each side of the posterior armor connects to the cod armor via a single snap that matches the color of the armor. The connection point and shape matches that of the reference image.

Onto the Belt we go:

Belt

  • Realistic style clone belt, belt boxes, and detonator.
  • Belt, boxes, and detonator are painted satin black.
  • Belt front between front boxes has three (3) vertical rectangle indents which are spaced apart by two protruding rectangle areas.
  • The rest of the belt is flat surfaced with raised edging on the top and bottom that run along the rest of the belt.
  • Eight (8) belt boxes are attached to the belt with four (4) on each side.
    • The two largest boxes are in front with an angled top surface that is higher toward the center.
    • The smallest boxes are located behind the front boxes, about ⅛" (3.2mm) apart and have an angled end on top.
    • The medium sized matching boxes, with flat top cover are about ⅛" (3.2mm) from the smallest boxes.
    • Left rear box is spaced closer to the detonator and has two square buttons in the top left corner, and two (2) dashed indented detail marks on bottom right.
    • Right rear box is spaced closer to the detonator and has a bar with two (2) small cylinders centered and two (2) dashed indented detail marks on the bottom left.
  • A detonator is centered and attached to the back of the belt.
    • Detonator tube is about 2.25" (57.15mm) diameter with wider detailed end caps.
    • Seven (7) horizontally aligned square buttons are on the left side of the tube when viewed from behind.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of grey tones.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Boxes are notched on the back and fit flush to the belt.
  • Back of the belt, between the rear boxes, has horizontal ribbing.
  • Detonator has ⅛" (3.2mm) to ¼" (6.3mm) inch wide rectangle base, connecting the Detonator to the Belt.

The Kama is going to need a little work with some understanding. I also added L2 details for the buckle and connectors.

Kama

  • Purge Trooper style kama.
  • The main body of the kama is black.
  • Center bottom edge of kama has a vertical cut.
  • The kama has a black trim (bias tape edging) around the outside edge.
  • The kama bottom edge vertical cut has a thinner black trim (bias tape edging) than the outer edge.
  • Kama wraps around cod and posterior armor under the belt.
    • Front edges align about 1 inch (25.4mm) behind the outside edge of front belt boxes.
  • Kama is made from a heavy fabric material like denim or duck cloth.
    • Leather or vinyl is not acceptable.
  • Kama extends down to align with the bottom of the knee armor.
  • Black leather or leather-like, ¾ inch (19mm) to 1 inch (25.4mm) wide connector straps are attached to kama.
  • Two-pronged clips that are metal or have the appearance of metal at the end of the strap connect to the buckle which is centered below the front of the belt.
  • The buckle is metal or has the appearance of metal and is oblong with 8 sides and a hollowed center with 6 sides that matches the reference images.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • The two-pronged clips at the end of each strap that connect to the buckle are metal.
  • The buckle is metal.

On to the Thigh Armor, I think this is pretty standard:

Thigh Armor

  • Realistic style thigh armor.
  • Armor is painted satin black.
  • Two white chevron stripes are present on the front of the right thigh.
    • Stripes are approximately 2 inches (50.8mm) wide with a ½ inch (12.7mm) gap in between.
  • Thigh armor has a flat triangle area above the knee which transitions to a ridge line that runs up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
  • Rear of armor has a rounded, indented area.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of gray tones.

Pushing into the Knee Armor, almost there!

  • I did remove the reference to the gray center strap on the main strap, I'm not seeing that it is actually gray. With this strap, I think we should probably specify a material for it?
  • However, I ensured that we have "All details match the reference images" in the right spot so that we can push these images to the main reference image thread.
  • The rest of the stuff I did was just a general clean-up.

Knee Armor

  • Purge Trooper style knee armor.
  • Armor is painted satin black.
  • Knees have a raised flat area in front and are oriented towards the top of the knee.
  • Knees bend around the front and connect to black detail clips on each side. The black details clips connect to the strap on each side. All details match the reference images.
    • The outer leg side has straight edges from the central rib, and the plate does not extend towards the back of the knee where the clip attaches.
      • From where the black detail clip attaches, the upper edge of the knee plate is a straight cut up-and-down. The bottom edge features a "high-arc" cut in it towards the lower leg armor.
    • The inner leg side of the knee plate has a curved top edge and the plate protrudes further back towards the back of the leg. This side of the knee plate is actually longer than the outside.
      • From where the black detail the clip connects, the upper edge of the knee has a gentle curve in the plate. The bottom edge features a "low-arc" cut in it towards the lower leg armor.
  • A black colored flat strap, about 1⅛ inches (28.57mm) wide, wraps around the back of the leg.
    • In the center of the strap there is a raised ⅝ inch (15.87mm) wide center strap.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of gray tones.

I like those improvements Ryan, looks great to me.

Fair play on continuing to fly through those last few parts folks.  I've now updated the finalised CRL text thread to include everything completed to date.

Great job discovering the wording to detail the knees appropriately! Lots of stuff to capture on such a small part. I’ve had a look at other CRL’s and the material of the knee strap does not appear to be mentioned. This CRL can either leave the material out for consistency, or specify rubber (or similar) as the material of choice. I’ll leave this choice with you.

Thanks team!

It's what we try to do best ;) :D I think we'll leave the material out for now and any pending final check on it all when we start putting it into the CRL.

We are onto the Lower Leg Armor, woo! I don't see anything here that needs to change on my glance.

Lower Leg Armor

  • Realistic style lower leg armor.
  • Armor is painted satin black.
  • Front of the lower leg has a flat triangular detail at the top which transitions to a ridge line that travels down the front of the armor to the ankle.
  • Back of the lower leg has an indented arched area that continues down to the ankle.
  • Bottom of the back side has an arched half circle engraved line at the heel.
  • Armor is seamless, except where the calf spoon connects to the back of the lower leg indent edge.
  • Armor has little to no weathering. Any weathering present consists of grey tones.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Calf spoon inserts connect to the lower leg inside and are secured to keep in place.

Time for the Boots! I like the L2 details on that one, I never even had realized that looking at the images a few times :D

Boots

  • Black, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle.
    • There shall be no black undersuit visible at the ankle.
  • Boots are lace-less.
  • The boots have armor detail to include a natural seam at the toe and a strap that goes over the top of the foot with two protruding disks at each side of the strap.
  • There are no markings or labels from the shoe makers.
  • Boot soles are flat.
  • The outward facing edges of the boot soles are black.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • The bottom of the sole is red with a black capital "I” line detail, matching the reference photos.
  • The red does not extend to the edges of the boot bottom.

I put in the text for the DC-15 blasters as I don't think we need to rewrite those from the work was done with CTD. I'm in favor for simplifying the text a bit for accessibility of materials globally, but instead of doing each section maybe we draw a reference to those reference images in the gallery of the CRL and instead list the section count?

I did put a part in red below that I need help with. Is there only 1 button or truly 2 of them? I looked at the CAD drawing that you provided (well done, by the way!) and it shows 2 there but wasn't sure in-game. I took the overall length you had stated for it and did a reduction of 14% to go from the 248.2cm on the CAD drawing to the 213.3cm listed in the text draft. I did that for sections 1 & 5 and 2 & 4.

ElectrostaffSections.thumb.jpg.c6f3654fdb02310633f98f9aa435da62.jpg

An example of what I mean would be this for the Electrostaff:

Electrostaff

  • Please also reference the gallery images when reviewing the text below.
  • Electrostaff is approximately 84 inches (213.3cm) long and divided into five sections.
    • Sections 1 and 5 are the ends of the electrostaff.
      • Sections 1 and 5 may have the appearance of electricity emitting from it via the use of greeblies. If these greeblies exist they must be painted to match the reference photos or may be electronically lit matching the color of the reference photos.
    • Sections 2 and 4 are the grip handles of the electrostaff.
    • Section 5 is the middle section of the electrostaff.
  • Sections 1 and 5 are approximately 14 inches (35.5cm) and have the following details:
    • A prong-like tab greeblie with raised ends that has 2 circles removed in the middle of the raised part of the greeblie. This is located on the butt end of the electrostaff.
    • The butt end of the electrostaff is a circular tube segment with circular indentions evenly spaced near the end of the segment. This segment is attached to the next segment via a thread-like connection.
      • The butt end of the electrostaff has an inner depressed ring with 4 circular indentions evenly spaced around the outer edge of that inner depressed ring.
    • The next segment from the thread-like connection resembles the shape of a bullet with a flat end as it connects to another cylindrical segment and has a ringed connector piece which connections sections 1 and 5 to sections 2 and 4.
  • Sections 2 and 4 are approximately 11 inches (27.9cm) and have the following details:
    • The outermost connection that connect to sections 1 and 5 resemble that of section 5 in design. It is ribbed with 4 evenly spaced, circular rods that run the length of the connection.
    • The innermost connection that connections section 5 also resemble that of section 5 in design. It is ribbed with 4 evenly spaced, circular rods that run the length of the connection.
    • The middle part is textured resembling a grip around the entire length of the section.
      • Only one of the textured sections will have a circular button with a ring as if it was used to turn on the electrostaff. This button does not need to be functional and may sit flush with the rest of the section.
  • Section 5 is approximately 35 inches (88.9cm) long and has the following details:
    • The middle section of the staff is ribbed.
    • There are four evenly spaced, circular rods that run the length of the middle section.

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • Sections 1 and 5:
    • In addition to the 4 circular indentions that are evenly spaced around the outer edge of the depressed inner ring, there are an additional 4 circular indentions that are on each side of the prong-like greeblie within the inside of the inner ring matching the reference photo.
    • These sections must have the appearance of electricity emitting from it via the use of greeblies. They must be electronically lit matching the color of the reference photos.
  • Section 5:
    • Where ribbed sections come together there are 2 circular indentions on each side of the raised connection. These are only on 2 of 4 sides in between the circular rods, each on opposite sides.

Yeah, in one of the captures it does look like the second bottom is there alright.  The bottom one is a little harder to see than the one higher up on the right, but I think that's just the lighting.  It looks like it mirrors it exactly to me.  Plus I'd like to think that the Empire was catering for left and right handed troopers equally 😄

Also, the way that the light is hitting that top button makes it look like there is definitely a raised bevelled edge to the buttons (the part that is catching the light at the top there).  I wouldn't worry about something so picky for basic clearance, but it could be a Lvl2 detail.

This one's a tricky read. I've made small revisions.

Below is a pic of the button. It is at either end of the electrostaff. The ends mirror each other.

spacer.png

There is a lot of small details on the staff and I don't know how specific we want to be. I went over the top with my build. Here's section 5. It's actually broken into 4 pieces and where they meet there are extra grooves and small circular holes spaced evenly around the circumference in between the round bars going the length.

All detail is great. We don't necessarily have to include every line and groove in basic clearance, but those can absolutely be included in Lvl2 clearance for those would want to make a kit as accurate as possible.
