The paint looks fine in terms of the overall level of metallic. I don’t think it looks flat grey. With that being said I definitely think it’s way too rough of an application, even to be considered weathering. Definitely needs to be cleaned up a bit. Here’s a couple photos for reference. One is the screen used suit buckles, the other is my personal suit. Both have a fair bit of black grunge on them, but the shapes and edges are well defined. The boot covers look alright. If they aren’t stuck down securely I’d imagine they would have a tendency to look just like this if they flared out away from the boot too much. The LED in the spectra sensor definitely should not stick out that far. When I get home I will pull mine out and take a close up of how the bulb should sit. It also isn’t located in the correct location on the sensor. Overall paint app on the helmet is a little rough as well.

Because their suit looks terrible. Their abs pulls are way too soft for the detail that are required for a death trooper. We have multiple troopers here locally who started out with an 850 kit that were unhappy with the quality and the look. Especially once they saw someone in a proper suit. Several have been binned and upgraded since then.

I would say that of all the potentially approvable kits out there 850 is actually the worst one you could get. Not sure where the “higher quality” idea is originating from. I would take an armoryshop suit all day every day over anything 850 makes.

I’m currently reprinting my suit using Toms files. I am using ArmorSmith to resize the parts. It’s a one time buy, $30 I believe. Well worth the cost. You will input your bodies measurements and create a digital avatar of yourself. You can then digitally attach the armor parts to the avatar and scale them until they look the way you want them to fit. I don’t have my PC handy to attach a shot but I did have this picture of my war machine that I resized to get an idea of what I’m talking about. I resize in armor smith and then print slices of the piece before the entire thing. So for example, if I’m printing the forearm, I first print about half an inch of the part at the wrist, and a half an inch at the top. This way I can test that my hand will fit through and be sure the part will fit the way I want it to.

They do not all fit the same. The shadow trooper is a standard tk helmet and will likely fit a much wider range of heads than the death trooper will. The DT is definitely smaller. With that said, If you can fit into an anovos that is the helmet to buy. Too many bobble heads.

I’m not familiar with the “corset” on the other troopers. I can clearly see what you’re describing in the photo, but hard to see how it is all fits together. I’m assuming the corset is made up of the ribbed rubber areas visible under the arms, with the ab plate and back plate separate pieces, both velcroed to the corset. Is that correct?

I would advise on any of the makers already listed by Devolver: armoryshop, plasticarmsdealer, or Jim Tripon. I honestly think the 850 kit is trash. And several of my garrison mates have abandoned their kit in favor of one of the Fiberglass kits. The 850 kit is easy to wear, but it looks awful. Death Troopers weren’t made to be done in ABS. Too many sharp details.

Hey Rob! If you don’t mind doing a bit of extra work any size printer will do just fine. You’ll just need to slice larger files into smaller parts and then glue them together. As materials are concerned, ABS will give you you the strongest suit, and will be the easiest to finish. However, it’s a pain in the ass to print with, and you may have issues with warping and pieces not fitting together properly. The good compromise is PETG. It’s strong, has good heat tolerances, and is almost as easy to print with as PLA. Don’t waste your time with PLA. It prints well, but won’t hold up to the rigors of trooping, or a few hours in a warm car. Ask me how I know

The short answer is yes it is the best and totally worth it. The long answer is it depends on whether your head will fit inside of it and if you can actually find on. Most people go with other helmets because of cost, others because they physically can't fit the anovos on their head. I would not order one directly from anovos though, particularly the specialist, because you'll never receive it. Find someone who has an anovos and try it on. If it fits, track one down and buy it. You'll need to look for one secondhand at this point. Try eBay, this forum, and the various DT and anovos groups on Facebook.

If you go to the Death Troopers build group on Facebook you should be able to locate Kerry Alan Rowntree. He makes the leather pouches and holsters and they are fantastic. Not sure if he's a member here on the forum or not. As for the ridges built into Jim's forearms, I took some 5mm neoprene and have it glued down to one side, wrap around and attach magnetically to the other so I can still open and close the forearm. It works but it's annoying as hell. When I have some time I plan on grinding that piece off and repainting, then going with rubber straps from Andrew McClary.

I would avoid using any sort of foam to build up parts of your suit if you're going for 501st approval. Jim's kit definitely has problems in the shin area. I'm a twig and can barely fit them on, and at that they are uncomfortable as hell. I would say instead of wasting time trying to puzzle piece a fix in place I would reach out to another vendor like Andrew McClary or 850 and see about getting some replacements that might fit you better.

I used rustoleum professional enamel and have not had any issues with the paint because of the flexibility of the armor. When you're wearing it, at least in my experience it doesn't flex all that much. As long as the surface is prepped properly and paint applied correctly you shouldn't have any issues.

Your kit should include the thermal detonator if I'm not mistaken.

FInally got my E11-D to a point I was able to take it out to a troop. Still need to do the white/red decals on it but it's basically finished. I also completed the alternate coloring on the armor and I must say it makes a world of difference. Subtle but gives just enough of a change to add some depth and detail to the suit.

+1 to Tom campbells files. They are publicly available on the Death troopers build group on Facebook. Made with scans of the helmet and perfectly line up with the anovos bucket.

I too stole Chaos' idea for keeping the shins aligned. Small piece of Velcro on the boot covers holds everything in place wonderfully.

I haven't had any issues with it. Jims kit is so flexible it still allows me to open up the back to slide my legs in.
