  1. Hi Chip. I suppose you could use ABS paste, but using E6000 would be easier. The paste works well when you need to hide a seam. You shouldn't have to paint unless you end up doing modifications and end up with Bondo or something all over your armour. Some of the smaller resin pieces can be painted gloss black and blend in nicely with the ABS - black is quite forgiving when it comes to color matching.
  2. Hi Carter, So, I have an 850 DT kit. Now, any kit you buy will have its challenges/quirks to deal with. I felt the 850 had a lot. That said, they have updated their kits since I built mine. I went with the ABS because, like you, I had worked with ABS and I also have some limitations on the space that I can paint and trim fiberglass. After really getting into the details and what makes a DT kit look good, I have to say the ABS vacuum-forming just doesn't quite do it for me. Those painted fiberglass kits just look, for a lack of a better word, sharper. At the end of the day, if you can manage to deal with the fiberglass (after looking at a garrison mate's ROTK, it doesn't seem that bad) then I would suggest to go the fiberglass route. If not, the ABS will do the trick to get you out there trooping. Either way, at 6'2" you are gonna make an awesome DT!
  3. Hi. I have an older version of the kit, but most of what I did will still apply. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Good luck with your build!
  4. Here’s my attempt. Not sure if I have the same version of 850 armor but the legs had a lot of inaccuracies. You may need to scroll through a bunch of posts.
  5. Yeah, the thought has crossed my mind. It would be the first of my costumes I would sell. I only wear it at events where I know I'll be the only Deathtrooper (which has been one so far - that says something).
  6. I'm late to the party but I assume you have decided on ASP. As a guy who built an 850 kit, I would look at a fiberglass or 3D printed kit next time. The ABS pulls just don't do the costume justice. And I found that the 850 kit had more missing details or oversight of details than I was comfortable with. I went with ABS because that is what I was used to working with - so the learning curve was minimal for me. I'm picky about my 3D printing, so I would be a bit wary about buying a 3D printed kit (but that is just my OCD) but it certainly captures the look of the costume much better than ABS. You are better off with the 3D print than the ABS pull, IMO.
  7. I’ll have to double check my armour when I get home, but I think the smaller recessed details (open square, small rectangle) were not present. if that is the case then the old armour is no longer CRL compliant (do I have to return my TX status, lol). I’m pretty sure the collar can be made to follow the CRL description from what I can tell - there will be a seam but it can be made to be inconspicuous. The 850 armour can be frustrating… partly due to the fact that the pulled ABS is just too soft for the crisp details, but also some of the details are just not super accurate. to be honest, I’m not sure if the new resin backplate conforms to the CRL either. 850 seems to have extra details not mentioned in the CRL (full disclosure- I’m embarrassing unfamiliar of the new CRL). They can always be filled in if you go that route.
  8. this should link to what I did for the connection
  9. I attached the front with glue and the back with Velcro. I used buckles from Plastic Arms Dealer - they get bolted on so I had to permanently attach the front.
  10. Hey Shawn, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Cheers.
  11. I thought I ordered a medium. But when I went back to my records, there was no mention of size for my Mk3. My memory is garbage, but I’m starting to think I didn’t have a choice when I ordered.
  12. You are comparing a resin-cast helmet with black paint to pulled black ABS, so it’s not going to be perfect. I found the abs in my 850 kit to have a slightly dull look to it when compared to the black paint. I seem to be the only one who notices it though. Lol.
  13. Hey man, great start! I have a feeling you’re gonna rock this build . I’ve got a question for you, any issues gluing the PETG? I’ve recently picked up some PETG but haven’t tried printing with it yet. I was under the impression it was hard to glue. I bought a Prusa mk3s about a month ago and have fallen in love with printing.
  14. Thanks man! Yeah, there is a Velcro tab on the side where your one star is. The back needs some work - the Velcro there got missed while dressing. I think I will eventually add a snap to the back and probably the front too. I really do prefer snaps to Velcro anyways.
  15. Thanks! Here is the test drive. lol - yeah, barrel sums it up.
  16. Corset done. I also added some Velcro tabs to hang down to help keep the belt from sagging (not shown, glue still setting) best part is that it hides the love handles. Lol. The corset does a great job of holding everything in place. Plus, I love the way it feels. The chest piece floats nicely and seems to allow for better movement.
  17. Thanks. The extra matting was in the kit. 850 sent me 4 pieces. I only used 2 for the thighs. Worked out pretty good - I guess it pays to be small sometimes.
  18. I never did do all the re-sizing and fixes I wanted to do after my first troop a few months back - so I though I would do it. Mostly this involves a bunch of trimming here and there, but I also wanted to redo the ab and kidney pieces. They were originally separate and attached to the chest and back pieces. I've decided to make a corset out of them (I used the extra ribbed rubber material that came with the kit). It appears that most of the new generation trooper costumes use this system instead of hanging pieces from the chest and back. Reference So I added rubber matting to connect the kidney to the ab. They are connected with snaps with the rubber parts over lapping and being attached with Chicago screws at the back. I just have to add some suspenders and integrate them into the "poncho" part of the undersuit. examples of the corset from other costumes. i will also add tabs to the bottom so I have more thing to connect the belt to. I also trimmed my shins and will be reshaping the tops of my thighs. The thighs appear to be flat across the top. So I will reshape mine a bit. The taped part will go (more or less).
  19. Sorry, I responded to this a while back, but I see it didn't save. https://elwirecraft.co.uk/
  20. Hi, There has been a bit of chatter on various detachment forums regarding the strapping system on some of the newer trooper costumes (Disney era stuff). Do we have anything posted here for the Deathtrooper? There have been some posts on Facebook - but I haven't found anything on this forum (I'll admit, I didn't look very hard). It appears to me that many of the new era troopers may have used very similar strapping including the corset-style kidney/ab pieces - which I'm totally convinced is what is going on with the deathtrooper (I'm in the process of updating my armour to have this). Maybe I'm wrong - I don't know. Anyway, if there is a post here outlining the current thinking, then great. If not, maybe we could start putting together some images and ideas of how the strapping is thought to be set up. Thanks, Greg
  21. Oh yeah. I have lifts. I try to steal every inch I can. Lol I ordered the regular sized mk4.
  22. I'm not sure if everyone has seen these, but these are shots of Mr Pauls Shoretrooper build showing his interpretation of the corset. https://imgur.com/9uHs686 https://imgur.com/KAQwzzi
  23. Hi. I have a fairly detailed 850 build here on this forum. There are a few challenges with the kit. I went with ABS because of my experience with building TKs. If I were to do it again I would probably go the fibreglass route because I like the crisp details in those kits. That said, ABS is pretty easy to work with and you don’t have to paint it (well, unless you want to). Good luck with whatever you decide. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
