Purge Trooper (Phase II) - Kenobi - Discussion

Yeah let's do that. Shoulder bells . Realistic style clone shoulder bells . There are 2 raised portions in the center of armor that run from the top of the shoulder to the bottom. Should match reference photos. .the armor is painted gloss black .there is a black 1 inch strap that attaches shoulder armor to shoulder straps from chest and back armor. .there is a webbing strap that runs down and connects bicep armor to shoulder armor Lvl 2 .shoulder bells have padding on inside that makes the shoulder armor sit slightly elevated off arm -

Should we move on to the armor parts while we wait for approval on the pauldron? -

awesome! after that's approved we should be done with the soft parts! the FBFX photo is very misleading on the snap. i think they just have studio lights shining on the suit witch would make any metal part shine and glare like its silver. -

*update* Pauldron . Pauldron is made from black leather or leather like material . Pauldron is sleek and uniform with one end coming to the other in a straight line along front and back . 2 end corners of shoulder area are cut at about 45° angles . There is a large red pad attached to top of shoulder area and is cut slightly smaller then base to allow a small black border to show around red pad. Pad is made from leather or leather like material. red pad ends about 1 inch from neck opening creating a small black patch between red pad and neck opening . There is a elastic strap that runs under bicep and is attached to pauldron with 2 black snaps. Strap is attach under pauldron not over. strap is about 15mm wide . There are 6 slanted stitches that run along front and back of Neck opening giving the appearance of separate panels and should match reference photo. There is also black stitching that runs along entire outer edge of pauldron. also with reference to . Pauldron should only have one opening in the back and should utilize an overlapping Velcro type closure to give the appearance of a flush one piece design. Lvl 2 . Pauldron is made from real leather note: from the reference material we have of the pauldron i do believe the snap is black. in the FBFX photo is does look perfectly silver how ever i think this is due to the lights shining on the armor the can be seen reflecting off the armor. in all the movie references we have the snap appears black. I feel we should replicate what is seen in the film. also with reference to the pauldron closure. from the reference material available the end around the neck is completely one piece. i mentioned havening an over lapping Velcro closure at the back of the neck witch would give the appearance of the pualdron being one piece like the reference material. -

That looks great! Maybe Scott can chime in for the kama? I believe the last soft part we have left is the pauldron? I can start tackling that. -

here is my suggested write up gloves: - gloves are based on the rogue one style TK gloves - made from a black material with visible logos or designs and black leather or leather like material on palm, thumb, and index finger. - glove extends under forearm armor - cuff is made from black elastic type material - hand plate is attached to back of glove and is black to match the rest of the armor. lvl 2 - base material is a black Nomex type material - palm has 5 raised padded sections to match reference photos -

Here is my research for the gloves. The gloves appear to be R1 tk gloves. Makes allot of sense being that they have used these gloves for every imperial trooper since R1. Here are my references. I've also included the photo from "keeptrooping.com" it has been confirmed he patterned them from a screen used pair and it matches all references. in these zoomed photos you can see the shine on the pointer finger from the leather on the finger. You can also see the leather on the palm in the second photo. -

"KAMA alteration" Kama Exterior of Kama: - Black leather or leather like material - Top is divided into four large panels - Three small pleated panels run along the bottom - width of each panel matches larger panel and height is divided equally. (roughly 40 mm per panel) - There is a slit separating the back center of the Kama that runs from the bottom and stops 1/3 of the way from the top Interior of Kama: - inner liner fabric has a pattern representing black cogs on a red background (vinyl material acceptable) - Divided into four large panels that run top to bottom - Black repeating cog pattern covers entire interior. Each row is offset from the row above and below. (each roughly 12-15 mm dia.) - Red cording runs along front edge on both sides and matches red used on armor LVL 2 - the red on the inner liner fabric is raised giving the appearance of an embossed pattern. note: Kama starts at the exterior edge of the front belt boxes. Kama is worn under ammo belt and extends to the bottom of the knee armor -

"correction for boots" Boots are above ankle height, similar in style to FOTK boots. Flat black soles, without a heel. Boots are made from black leather or a leather like material. Boots have a full height inner zipper. Zipper must be black in colour. -

yes, i see the way i worded it was confusing. what i was trying to say is either color could be the printed color as long as the cogs would be black. i guess that could be pretty confusing so your right lets just stick with the fabric being red and black cogs being printed on. for the level 2 embossed look since the red need to be printed on a black background so the red is raised the negative of the cogs will need to the part that's printed. -

Oh I forgot to mention I did email fbfx to ask them about the inner fabric. They said the fabric was sent to them by Lucas film so they can not verify the material used but he did say how ever that is was a printed on pattern. This would be my recommended right up. This is an alteration of smoszer write up. Exterior of Kama: - Black leather or leather like material - Top is divided into four large panels - Three small pleated panels run along the bottom - width of each panel matches larger panel and height is divided equally. (roughly 40 mm per panel) - There is a slit separating the center of the Kama that runs from the bottom and stops 1/3 of the way from the top Interior of Kama: - Black or red material (vinyl like material also acceptable) with cog pattern print being the opposite color. Example-Black with red cogs or red with black cogs ^ (Without doing the level 2 embossed look I feel fabric could be either color as long as cog print reflects the opposite color as either color would give the same look) -Divided into four large panels that run top to bottom - Black/red repeating cog pattern covers entire interior. Each row is offset from the row above and below. (each roughly 12-15 mm dia.) - Red cording runs along front edge on both sides and matches red used on armor Lvl2 Inner material is black with red printed cogs. Cog print is slightly raised giving the pattern an embossed look. ( being that the red on the pattern is the color that is raised i think its safe to say the red was the printed color) (Note) Kama starts at the exterior edge of the front belt boxes. Kama is worn under ammo belt and extends to the bottom of knee armor What are your thoughts smoszer being that this is based off your right up? -

Okay so I've been working on gloves and all the armor parts, however I don't wanna bury Tipperaryed lol. I've gone back and copied the latest write up for the parts previously discussed. I'll paste them all here so they are all in one place for Tipperaryed to make his life easier. Are we all content with these write ups before we keep rolling on other parts? UNDER SUIT: Lvl:1 Base undersuit is made from a black, non-textured material, either one or two-piece construction with no visible logos/designs. Any zippers must not be visible when the full costume is worn. Ribbing material must be present anywhere the undersuit is visible when armour is worn on top. All ribbing must be horizontal. Each rib and groove can be no wider than 3mm or 1/8 inch (one rib and one groove equal 6 mm or 1/4 inch). Lvl:2 The undersuit is one piece construction . A zipper runs along the entire front and encloses the front of the undersuit. This should not be visible when the full costume is worn. Non-visible areas of undersuit (eg. forearms, center of thighs, waist and calves) do not have ribbed material present. NECK SEAL: Lvl:1 Black with horizontal ribs, fitted to the wearer, and extending from the base of the neck to conceal the entire neck. A bib may extend from the bottom of the neck seal to ensure that the entire neck opening of the chest and back armour is covered. The bib should be made from the same ribbing material as used on the undersuit. BOOTS: Boots are above ankle height, similar in style to FOTK boots. Flat black soles, without a heel. Boots are made from leather or a leather like material. Boots have a full height inner zipper Zipper must be black in colour. Lastly are we content with the kama write up? I didn't include that here since we are currently working on it -

Oh you know what having seen that detail I think I know how they did that! I think they got black fabric and screen printed the red on there using puff additive. I used that stuff when I was a screen printer. It creates a raised print that would look exactly like that. The ink would also have a slight sheen to it. This is what I would suggest for a write up on the inner fabric Lvl 1 Inner fabric is black and has small red cogs printed in a staggered pattern Lvl 2 Red cogs are raised and appear to have an embossed look. I think material choice could be left open as long as it contains those details but we could also note "vinyl material also acceptable "? Thoughts? -

One suggestion I might make is mentioning the inner red fabric being leather. I don't think we can confirm it was leather. In the available reference material you can't really see it well enough to say for certain it was leather. Just thinking of it from a movie film and production stand point I don't think they would have used leather for afew reasons. Reason 1 it's more expensive for a part hardly visible. Reason 2 you can't screen print leather. I used to be a screen printer and ink will not adhere to leather or vinyl. I think just stating "red material" would be alittle more fair since that's all we can see and prove it to be. Another note would be stating specific details of the top belt and how to make it. Since this is a part we can't see the orginal of it would be more fair to just say "kama tucks under outside belt". That way people are not restricted to using a specific buckle or rigging for there costume. What are your guys thoughts? -

the spats are the same ones used on the new clone troopers. I emailed FBFX (the company that made both the new clones and the purge trooper costume) and they confirmed the base armor kit for the purge trooper is the exact armor kit they made for the clone troopers for the show. they just added the purge trooper details and greeblies to the armor. this is really good news because there is an Adam savage video where he goes over a screen used clone trooper costume at the FBFX warehouse. this shows up close and personal all the base armor that would be identical to the purge trooper. the spats appear to be the same as the clones but black and without the strap over the top. -

For the boots I agree. With most crls the boots have more wigle room then other more visible parts of the costume. -

That looks solid to me. So you are suggesting we make the zipper and no elastic sides a level 2 requirement?
