Magma DeathMOS

Recommended Posts

Cool I picked the Magma because Red is one of my favorite colors and I always wanted to wear armor. Black is my other favorite so I am doing Tie Pilot. I was going to do shawdow trooper but there wasnt much a point since the armor is essentially the same. I may do the blackhole trooper but it wont be 501st approved it would be my creative armor but that wouldnt be for several years later.

I am happy for the pictures so I can accurately build so the more pics the better that was one reason I asked. Anytime i look at the thread and the 501st seems very few we need to recruit more although I do enjoy that there arent very many of us.

Helmet I finally was able to cut out the frown. I am a bit worried about the helmet assembly it seems ok but not so sure how it will turn out i may have to order another but I am not jiumping to conclusions until I attach the ears and see how it looks.after painting etc. it looks ok but i think i could have done a bit better it may turn out ok after all.

I also got most of the arms assembly they need some major sanding to smooth out the rough edges then attach the rest of the snaps i will post pictures once its 100% done

starting the legs today I am anticipating it will take less time

does anyone know how many Magma Troopers there are in the 501st? Seems like we have very few compared to a lot of the other costume folks in the 501st.

There are (6) total approved Magma troopers on the Spec Ops roster.

Yes, we are few and far between. :) The Royal Guard Stormtrooper (aka Magma Trooper) is always a hit and people ask about it a lot.

Sometimes, when they ask "Why red?", I simply say I bathed in the blood of my enemies. ;)

Indeed I heard there was one in Orlando which is close to me Ill be part of the Tampa Bay Squad already did my first troop as a handler. :) It was a lot of fun. I will probably be finished with my Magma before the end of the month so more pictures coming soon. I think I will also try ot do the speacialist program as well.

Ok I have a bit of a problem.

Helmet: how to fix ear gaps and semi lopsided brow I will post pictures when I get home. My thought was to take it apart and redo it since I pulled in one side too much.

Shins and Thighs: The velcro shows from certain angles on the back not so sure what to do. I will post pictures as well.

Just was curious if anyone had an ideas?

Thank you.

Hey Dorothy. We'll definitely to offer more when we see the picks, but since I can picture pretty well the issue you are likely having with your ears, I can offer some advice. Once of the keys as I am sure you found out is getting the curves right. This can often mean some trimming on the inside of the ear so the line it takes matches up with the bucket just right. In most case you might need to help the angle a bit heating the cap and slight bending it to add more curve. Some people use a heat gun and other boiling water to accomplish this. I will tell you I had to do both of these steps on my original bucket. I dipped the ear cap in boiling water for 10-15 seconds and then very slight bend it the direction it need to go. Once the angles are better, you can determine where you might need to trim a little more. Always trim a little at a time. You can always trim more, but you can't put it back (in most cases) Hope that helps. Let's see the pics and we can help with the rest :D

First time trying it on with the under armor it slides on very easy. Im not finished obviously the body is missing. The ammo box on the thigh needs to be put on and also Thermal Detonator needs to be fixed. The helmet I had glued the inside hard hat helmet stuff. Oh and the boots need to be painted,. So I am close just no cigar, not yet.

Thanks just that final push to finish. I must say building this armor was quite challenging and a lot of fun and I learned a lot. Next armor I build probably wont take as long sine the things that I have learned from this one. Tons of fun though I cant wait to start trooping in this :)

Your build is coming along nicely. Did you get the helmet adjusted? It looked like the dome might need to come down just a bit. The brow trim should also come down closer to the eyes. DE gave you some great advice on the ear parts. It looked to me like the R (your right) ear might need a bit of trimming, while the L (your left) ear needs a bit of shaping to bring it in more. Just go slow and be careful! :)
