Lightsaber

Hello all!!

Unlike the blaster, the lightsaber is necessary in a possible CRL.  These are the two best references we have.

spacer.png  spacer.png

To get started with this job, I bought a Kenobi saber, 3d printed as a base.

Let the fun begin!

First modification, I need this piece to be thicker. I place 4 layers of ABS plastic, and shape it with the dremmel.

Bondo and sandpaper

Finally, the painting

More bondo and modifications to other pieces, sand and paint:

I got this finish

Next to my Darth Vader fx saber

And compared to the best reference drawing.

What do you think?

Im impressed!  If I was being extremely critical, I would say that the rectangular area seems too wide and potentially those might be round “lights” in the center instead of square etched details...hard to tell.

And then finally the end where the saber would come out seems longer (thicker) than the reference.  That silver area seems to not be as long and doesnt have the etched ring around the lip as well...at least from the references I see here.

But yea thats about it but Im pretty impressed by the work.  Well done!

PS I dont know Sith CRLs well. are sabers required or optional pieces?

I agree with the details you mention.  I have in mind to order this saber on a custom lightsaber site, with the blade and sounds, there if I will be more detailed.

In Sith Lord CRLs, the saber is required, on the other hand, characters that use a lightsaber, like Pre Vizla who has the Dark Saber, is optional, the Hero Tk have an optional lightsaber as well. I don't know what will be the right thing to do with this character.

I personally think that it should be required because it is characteristic of the character, but it must be analyzed.

A detail that I forgot to mention in my previous post. It is the way the saber is worn. References give zero details. Just a little hook or ring, I don't know how to tell. We only see a small piece of metal. lol

spacer.png

To secure the saber well, I thought about this grip system. I'm going to paint it silver or even chrome. Sew it to the belt, revealing only a small section but enough to remove or place the saber.

Installed the way to carry the saber.

The Sith Lord CRLs have the lightsaber in the required item listing but have this bullet:

  • The lightsaber is only included as long as it's in compliance with the applicant’s local laws.

So that is something that we'll have to watch. That would be handled at a GML level as they'll know the local laws and such better than us at the detachment level. However, we can make it a requirement at at Specialist (L2) level for accuracy if that is something we really want to control. We can also do a waiver process similar to what FISD does for higher level if we can prove that a "weapon" is not a feasible option...however, that is on an extremely limited basis.

Your saber looks great though!

Right, I think the same. It could just like they do in the Sith Lords CRL.

The character is characterized by carrying a lightsaber. It's one of the things that makes it different, in my opinion. ?

________

The boots are on the way, so I'm almost ready for the first "suit up". After uploading the photos, I am open to any correction or improvement that I may need to make.

The goal is that all this work serves to create a CRL of the character. So then I need some help or guidance on the steps to follow.?

Soon the latest update.

I'll go ahead and setup a CRL discussion thread like we do for all the costumes that follows on each item piece by piece so that we can separate it from this WIP thread :)

Ok, great.

Last question.

In the CRL and New Costume Survival Guide, there are a few steps, specifically for New to the Legion Costumes (NTTL). talks about emailing the LMO with certain information. That is until the possible CRL is ready?

It is good to see you checked that out!! We will take care of the contact with the LMO on that, I believe that we already had the go-ahead on it but I'll verify. Once we get the suit up stuff I'll PM you the Google Drive link to upload the images and we'll takeoff!

Yup. That info is a bit dated in that most dets (like ours) will facilitate the NTTL process for you. The statement these days mostly relates to costumes that have no detachment home to build the CRL alongside. You wont have to do much other than help draft the text here and then take pics.  CRL peeps will take care of the rest for you

Very nice!! Sorry, I've been busy with work lately due to some restructuring. I'm hoping to get back into this one and we can start with the text drafting!

Well, first version finished.

I hope this costume is 501st quality, I try my best not to just cosplay. Any detail that needs to be corrected, changed, replaced, any improvement. Just tell me.

Gracias por la ayuda.

Man I was sick w/ Covid and totally missed this.  Let me take a look.

On a side note, I added all of the Kreel references across every issue to the reference pictures thread and sorted them by issue arc to separate out the different variants.  On my end there's an issue w/ some pictures though @IcyTrooper that I can't get fixed for some reason.

Man @darthRivera I'm so pumped to see this! I've been working on my stuff as well for Cav since recovering and only have the ab and belt to finish before I can start strapping.  Anyways...

Overall I feel like you've nailed it!  I only see a 2 things that really stick out to me (though I would want to marinate and review this a couple more times over):

1) The folding/creasing of the pauldron.  I really feel like this should be tightened/smoothed.

2) The hanging hip pouch...I don't see any evidence of visible snaps.  It looks like you have 2 silver snaps showing on both the front and back part of the strap.  If there's a way to connect that or at the very least conceal those snaps (maybe even paint them black if it isn't possible to hide them), then that should probably be done.

Other than that, I think the build is good...there might be some things we can examine when we go through the CRL text as far as what should be Level 1 and Level 2 as some ANH TK details aren't necessarily present in the artwork...but that's not anything I think needs adjusting.

WELL DONE!!!

Thanks you have helped me a lot. And I hope you are in good health, that you finish recovering well.

Point 1, I agree I am not happy with that finish, I can correct it these days.

In point 2, about the snaps, I used them, based on these images:

spacer.png

In the same way, if you consider that it is best to paint them black, no problem.

So I'm waiting for any help you need, I'll try to fix the orange pauldron for a smoother finish .

Thanks!!!

I agree with what @RAIDER said minus the snap part, as you have provided the evidence that the snaps are there. I think they can remain silver. If you look at the first panel it appears to be the same color as the bracket, which the bracket is silver in the next panel to the right.

I also noticed that your cod strap (with snaps) is hanging down as well  ...I have that happen all the time. I think we are good to also start drafting the text.

I'm really sorry I didn't respond to this expeditiously.

yes looking tighter indeed.  are u using the heat/stretch method used on biker scout boots?

I used the same materials from version 1. I simply changed the method of gluing the faux leather to the foam mold.

I stretched the faux leather on the table, and fastened the corners with tape, the piece well stretched. Then I glued the foam mold and used a wooden board to press it while drying the glue.  Which, distributed well throughout the mold so as not to have air bubbles.

After drying the glue, I glued the inside edges.

now i am giving it the curved shape after gluing the black inner fabric liner.

If everything is looks good, it would be necessary to adhere the magnets and the Imperial cog.
