Del Meeko CLR "Specialist"

Recommended Posts

hello,

I'm thinking about making my "Del Meeko" a specialist.

in the CLR for level 2 there are a few points that I don't quite understand

to the belt:

OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):

  • The rigid front portion of the outer belt is made from the game's 3D model and scaled to the wearer.
  • The box is smaller than a typical scout box, is curved, the back is closed with a back plate, and features a rectangular depression near the bottom out facing side of the box.
  •
  • The standard shadow scout thermal detonator is not accurate and is not to be used for Level 2 approval.

why are the dropbox and the TOD smaller than the Scout?

I can't find any pictures of this.

I believe this was the result of a lot of work in the most recent CRL discussion thread, principly by my predecessor Anton. He took the game renders and examined them in extreme detail, including calculating the scale of each. He established that the drop box was smaller than the scout one.

Del's TD is actually a different design to the Shadow Scout one, and again all of the close ups can be seen going back through that discussion thread.

Wishing you luck with going for that lvl2!

Jim Trippn is the only one who has these special parts.
Here in the picture you can see the parts you can order from him.

Now it says "no longer Approved" on the TD

Does anyone know what that means? Would something be changed?

I think it's good if you can get as close as possible to the original.
But... I think it's slightly exaggerated... especially for a character from a computer game...
With these extreme changes, you should also be able to buy the parts somewhere....but that's becoming very difficult.
Isn't it all supposed to be fun...with CLRs like this it's going to be difficult.

It's also interesting that there is still no Del Meeko specialist!

Hello! @tipperaryred did a great job explaining the rationale behind the change. With the newer games we are getting a lot of good images to establish differences. Another example of this is with the Battlefront Shadow Stormtrooper that has longer drop boxes, from the standard shadow stormtrooper.

I'm quite disheartened to hear that the challenge of obtaining L2 Specialist clearance isn't fun because of lack of vendors. L1/basic approval is supposed to be accessible to everyone across the globe allowing for ease of construction and build based on materials that are local to you, while still maintaining as much unity with the costume. L2/L3 is not a requirement for being a member of the 501st and often requires unique solutions, building, or sourcing to enhance the details of your costume to the L2/L3 level(s).

I'd encourage working with vendors to see if they would be able to procure something that meets the Specialist requirements. In this new age 3D prints are becoming very accessible for special parts (as long as print lines are removed).

There is indeed an issue with availability at the moment, and this may be something we need to look at if it continues. Speaking personally I'm badly in need of a replacement scout belt for my Del, but the limited availability of accurate ones (and the subsequent price inflation) is making it a tough one.

Part of the reason I am keen to get a new CRL for a generic Inferno "Imperial Special Forces Trooper" is that the artwork is much simpler - therefore we can go with a much simpler CRL. This should hopefully allow more vendors to supply parts, and indeed make it easier for people to 3D print some of their own parts as Ryan points out. If we can get that over the line it could be a great entry point to the Inferno costumes, not completely dissimilar to the way that the TIE Reserve is a nice entry point over at JRS. If we get more people building Infernos, and more vendors buying into that, it may also have a knock on effect of those new vendors then branching out to supply Specialist level parts as demand grows.

Im curently working with a maker that has been supplying L1 gear. He has started over with new molds and is making it to L2 spec. Its all smaller, the helmet is rounder, and the belt is different. We have had long talks and referenced our CRL discussions a lot. I wrote the CRL with Anton and Maximes input, so here I am three years later ready to put one togther, to L2 spec.

Vendors have been loping along making typical scout and R1 gear because there hasnt been a demand for L2 gear. With demand will come change. Talk to your vendors, and let them know you would be willing to buy their gear, when it gets to L2 specification. The informatin , research and discussion (including dimensions) are all readily  availabl in the CRL discussion.
