PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Crimson Stormtrooper / Magma Trooper
IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Crimson Stormtrooper
And due to the fact that I've noticed that how the red is rendered varies greatly with the camera used. From that perspective I think we would be making it harder for the applicant and GML if they send pics in. Consistent color amongst all armor pieces I feel is the most fair. -
PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Crimson Stormtrooper / Magma Trooper

I'm fine with adding those references using the standard weapons verbiage we have found for them. -
Hopefully almost have everything I need

Yeah the snaps or popper method seems to be the most common with things. When I meant detachment only here is the easiest way to look at it: Basic level is gets you into the 501st Legion. Level 2 gets your special recognition within the Detachment, in this case the Special Operations Detachment. It just adds a lot more detail to the costume to make it more accurate/detailed. It isn't required for 501st membership but once you get membership you can apply for Level 2. -

Welcome, Brandt! If you haven't already you should give the CRL a view which will show the 501st standards for the costume: https://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:TX_magmatrooper As for the rivets and such the side stuff on the kidney and ab plates are optional unless you are going to go for level 2 on the costume which is a detachment only program. Which means that you can still get approved for the 501st without them, just would have to add them to get level 2 with the detachment. The way that you suit up the costume and have the parts all hang together and on you is largely dependent on whatever feels the most comfortable. Personally for myself I use a lot of velcro to keep the stuff together and and snaps where they work. But I know people who are 100% velcro or 100% snaps, just depends. -

PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Crimson Stormtrooper / Magma Trooper
IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Crimson Stormtrooper
That is correct, the current CRL allows for grey frown only and the holster being attached via loops or riveted from behind to the belt. The proposed change will allow for either gray or black frown and the holster must be attached via rivets from behind the belt and will not be optional. -
Welcome back!

I'd approve it if I was the GML. -

Yes sir, already went and changed it in both this thread for the Magma and then in the Shadow Stormtrooper thread. -
PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Shadow Stormtrooper

I'm making a correction to the kidney plate section as the measurement for spacing from the edge says 4" (100m) and should be 3/8" (10mm). -

IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Crimson Stormtrooper
That is a typo for the measurement, should be 3/8" (10mm). That was carried over from the Shadow Stormtrooper CRL proposal so we'll correct that one ( @Raider ). We said horizontally because the rivets would line up laterally with the side of the abdomen plate, not vertically if you are looking from the side of it. Yep, green would be fine. If there isn't a specific reference in L2 then the basic requirements would apply. Good questions and thanks for pointing that typo out! -
Rocking and rolling! I did see your Facebook post about weathering. I didn't see that one in the CRL, so wanted to pass along just in case.

You're welcome! If you get a build thread going then we can definitely help! Yeah I know that some kits actually come with the kidney and butt plate already fused. There is one Battlefront that allows for both ROTJ or ANH for basic and that is the Magma Trooper with MEPD. They did it to help with inclusion for people who had all kinds of different kits. For L2 you definitely have to have ROTJ style there though. They all look good! ?

PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Crimson Stormtrooper / Magma Trooper

@Raider I agree on all of your points above, exactly what I was gonna say. I'd say we allow for either black or gray frowns. I think the black looks more fierce haha -
PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Crimson Stormtrooper / Magma Trooper
IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Crimson Stormtrooper
Michael, you mean previously they were in the specialist requirements? I checked the old thread for requirements for magma trooper and I'm not seeing that. -
Hey Mason, I'm not sure if there are any here who have done it but there are some more differences then it appears: Tube stripes on helmet are blue. Vocoder (chin) is silver, as you pointed out. Hand plates are more square with rounded edges. Chest has that white imperial cog/logo on the left breast. Chest has a black flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip around all edges. Back plate has a black flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip around all edges. Abdomen armor's button detail/plate is inverted (as opposed to the other shadow stormtrooper). Abdomen armor/cod piece has a black flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip around all edges. Kidney & posterior armor is fused together as one piece (if it isn't already) and has a black flexible U shaped gasket or molded lip around all edges. Belt canvas is 2 to 2.5" wide instead of the 3 to 3.5" wide of the regular shadow stormtrooper. Drop boxes are longer/skinnier than the regular shadow stormtrooper. It isn't anything really hard by any means. That U shaped gasket around the edges is just automotive 3M door seal. The only interesting part is redoing the belt to the narrower canvas, getting drop boxes that are longer/skinnier that matches the plastic of RS, and fusing the kidney and posterior armor parts.

PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Shadow Stormtrooper
IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Shadow Stormtrooper
Okay yeah now that I look back I think I was originally against the painted detonator clips because of the upkeep required to keep them black since they flex. -
PROPOSED CRL MODIFICATION: Shadow Stormtrooper
IcyTrooper replied to RAIDER's topic in Shadow Stormtrooper
I'd say for the detonator we'd probably want to keep it close to Rocket Trooper with a few additions/changes: Thermal detonator belt clips are positioned half way between center of detonator and the end cap. The detonator is attached to the canvas belt with 1" (25mm) black metal or metallic-appearing clips. I don't really see anything that we need to change for the belt from the L2 stuff we have above. I can't really compare it to the Rocket Trooper because we did a lot of funky things with that one based on the game images (i.e. longer belt boxes, skinnier plastic part, etc.) I also don't have any recommended changes for the thighs. -

The ANH Hero, Commander, Heavy Weapons Trooper, Incinerator and Shock troopers also have them. That was my justification in conjunction with the book details.
