The thing is we need people to build these before we can run for approval. It's a bit of 'Chicken and Egg' syndrome. So if you fancy having a go, we can discuss the reference images with you and how best to proceed. And then when the time comes, we'll be behind you all the way to get it approved. We'll even converse with the LMO's for you, in order to assist the process. We'd need to bring it to their attention and see whether the reference material is suitable. We would need consistent references that show the costume in a 360 degree panorama (i.e., we can see all of it from front back and sides).

Satin is the new black for Storm Commando's!
-
Tidy... I've been overseeing one in the UKG too. The one thing the LMO's pulled our boy up on was the shoulder bells. They needed to be smooth (scout style) rather than the ribbed (TK style) ones. Not sure if this is something you've already cleared, or are aiming to. I think we should have all the boys in black.
-
1: None... it's not specified. But i like the fact that you've gone green. Green or black would be fine. 2: I would say the belt does need to be nylon. There is a distinct nylon/cotton difference with the standard scout, which this CRL is based from for consistency. 3: You would be correct yes. Same as the Standard Scout. 4: It's not specified, but would go with the same as the Standard Scout. The 'movie' requirements are designed to mimic those of the standard Scouts, to provide some visual compliments between the variants. If you get stuck, refer to those to get some pointers.

Morning Jason... I did see this, but have been laid up with Man-Flu over the weekend (just as the sun came out too...). In answer to your question... It would appear as though the 501st database CRL is another one that is a little out of date. I'll see to it that it gets amended. In answer to your questions, Green cotton for the shoulder bridges, and green nylon for the main belt. Here is the updated 'Specialist' requirements (Lvl-2) that we've got in the 'pending' section.

Sorry to use the standard scout to illustrate it... but it's one of the better references I've got. If you look here, you'll see that the boxes sit more on the Hips, than on the thighs.
-
Evening bud... few little points that you may want to address. 1: Thermal Det is on upside down. (rectangle on the left as you look at it) 2: Drop boxes are low, they ideally want to sit about 3-4" below the belt line. 3: Pouches look like they are on the wrong sides. The straight down bit of the flap should be innermost. (might just be because of the lack of padding). 4: Elastic butt-strap on your bund is shimmying off to one side. It should go straight up. 5: The flight suit does seem a bit baggy. Might be worth taking it in a touch around the legs. And as a last consideration, but hell... why not. Adding in the patches, flaps and straps to your suit and making a flak vest. Go the whole hog! But coming along nicely bud. Keep up the good work.

Satin is the new Black!

Tidy... The newer one looks a lot sleeker.

Basically the "Real" vs "Game" trees were decided upon especially for those situations where there is a real canon descendant for that costume. Such as Storm Troopers and Scouts. We know the Swampy, Snow Scout, Storm Commando et al, all have a common canon descendant in the Basic Scout. As do all the Stormtrooper variants. And in a nutshell it was devised to combat what essentially is 'sloppy programming' on behalf of the game designers. In the case of some of the scout variants, some of the game interpretations have numerous little differences that are consistent no matter what 'skin' they have (be it basic scout, SC, or swampy). So we know that it's down to programming rather than a deliberate attempt to make it 'different'. And with the potential for people to choose the easy route and mix and match parts, say no boot holster, round TD, no crotch patch etc to make their lives easier.... But essentially ending up with a costume that looks half-baked. We decided to make the Game versions on a par to the Specialist level. With it being it's 'own' specific costume, one that takes in ALL the idiosyncrasies of the game rendering, warts and all. Whereas the "real" versions take the basic idea of the variant and overlay it over what we know as the canon details (patches, flaps, glove types etc). If that all makes sense. As Damian said... the likelihood of anyone doing this was apparently very slim, but then in true Spec Ops fashion, someone goes and does it. Goes to show huh! Then you get figures or statuettes of the Game variants (as above) which again differ from the computer renders and adopt a more 'organic' look. Essentially what they would look like in "Real" life, and going the other way. From a computer render back to a tangible item. So that's where it sits for you on this one. The pouches on the render look really square and blocky, but I doubt a real pouch would. Hence some of the Leather MP40 (ish) style pouches would be more suitable. It does give some scope, but also narrows the field. You end up choosing a specific reference and working towards that one. Rather than choosing the easy options from both. Getting a new costume on the roster and being #1 is never an easy affair. And you also set the base standard too. Knowing what you've done so far Jim, that is setting that bar quite high, much to the dismay of those who will follow you. You'll come good. You're practically past the finish line as is, and these are just the polishing of the silverware moments. You can get leather Repro MP40 pouches on eBay for about £40. But try looking for triple mag pouches as well rather than the MP40 specific ones. You may find something a bit more suitable. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/German-Army-Black-Leather-MP40-AMMUNITION-POUCHES-WW2-Repro-/181283195850?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item2a35520bca If it doesn't need to be leather.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VIPER-MP5-MAG-POUCH-TRIPLE-MAG-POUCH-BLACK-/121231144218?pt=UK_SportingGoods_OtherSports&hash=item1c39f0751a

They have to be as seamless as possible. I'd personally go with no visible seams, but I am not the only man on the judging panel. So not technically a 'must', but certainly ideal. Each suit is judged on it's own merit, and each part is scrutinised on an individual basis. But if it's completely seamless.... then I have nothing to moan about (and where's the fun in that!).
-
Yeah, SC will be fine, with some work. Ideally you'd want to butt the two rear parts up to the front part. Add a strip of backing plastic behind it with some decent glue, then fill any resulting gap so it's nice and smooth. Then paint to suit.
-
The belt things means like this... and not like this... The plastic portion of the belt must be one piece. With no visible gaps or joins.

as todd says.

Mike, if they used them in the Force Unleashed, then surely that's a canon reference as TFU was a licensed LFL game wasn't it? If you can blag a screen grab or similar from the game, then we'd be better able to guide you in your search. There are plenty of things you could use. A super soaker would be a good start as they are roughly the same. But add on parts such as greeblies and or extras to make it stand out. For a big tub. What about a container that disposable wipes come in? They're pretty big and round.

I think it's the logical progression for any Scout to then go on to the Storm Commando. I went for the black kit, and then painted it 'satin' black. This was in part our GML's choice, because he wanted the costume to more closely resemble the source material. I think he made the right choice. The benefit of the black kit, is that if it does get scuffed, and invariably it will, you don't need to worry to much about repainting it. Here's me in mine. Sorry for the boring pic, but it was for a Gallery pic, so needed to be 'dull'.
-
We're talking about two different costumes here... None of the source material suggest such weathering or the existence of a metallic material for the armour. It's that source material which you should try to tailor your costume towards. There are some shots of mild weathering, but it's purely minor blemishes. Obviously it's all down to your own GML. But remember, less is more.
-
I'd be tempted to go with 6 ribs as can be seen in the source material. But either would be acceptable.
-
I wouldn't go about 'weathering' your suit with loads of fake blaster marks and silver scratches. But I wouldn't worry about it weathering naturally with marks and scuffs. If that makes any sense.

Scout's don't have a 'sniper plate'. And seeing as this is in the 'Scouts' section... -

How To: Use Body Language
Chef replied to DizzyStormtrooper's topic in Miscellaneous Tips and Tricks
And whilst Body Language is a great Non Verbal Tool.... Remember, communication with your squad mates will be limited whilst you've got your bucket on. Hand signals are great for this...
