  1. I understand your point but the CRL does say gloss (and only gloss) in the Special Notes section towards the top. We could add it to every armor piece description but that could be redundant no? Garrison interpretation verbiage I cant say we would add unless the Legion LMOs ask us to add that to every CRL in the legion as a broad statement. But that could open up a can of worms of things that get approved in a negative way. Its too late for this advice (and I do not intend it as a jab), but that is one of our primary functions as a detachment...to help, give advice, and guide builders before they pull the trigger on a purchase. ...we are the resource to help clarify (and hopefully prevent) issues. I always tell prospective members...pick a costume you like, then visit that detachment to gather your info before you do anything else. Anyways...whats done is done and we are here to help you both finish your builds and get you to approval. Will keep following through the weekend. Good night! PS @Halycon are you meeting with @Janem to do the clear coat or by yourself?
  2. I love your positive attitude. Thank you! Yes there are a few RS approved in Germany (most are not though...and once approved you do not get unapproved just because the standard has changed) and I believe this became a concern for them when they did one of their major troops and there was one RS kit next to all of the glossy Shadows. It looked well out of place and prompted the change. I look forward to seeing your progress this weekend and am hoping for the best.
  3. I am the detachment leader and one of your GMLs did reach out to me earlier today. I showed him pics of RS kits, versus standard gloss Shadow Troopers and stated exactly what I posted here. My personal opinion is it is not gloss enough (it actually looks satin to me) but ultimately it will be up to his judgement to decide if RS will be gloss enough for your garrison’s interpretation of the standard. The comparison pics were provided for him to make that assessment. I made him aware that there is a similar issue in Germany. Your GML, nor myself, have any influence over vendor products. We, the detachment, manage the CRL and the garrison GMLs apply it. Vendors are their own operating business. I totally understand your concern. The money invested is significant (though it sounds by price like you ordered a fully built commission...would be much cheaper if you connected with local members and did the build). Hope that gives you some insight. Lets see how it goes with @Halycon this weekend.
  4. Im not a professional painter by any stretch. @IcyTrooper your snow scout was made by RS right? Did u paint it and/or clear coat it?
  5. I suppose that would depend on the timeline you're working against. If @Halycon is going to attempt gloss this weekend, maybe wait to see how that turns out. When it comes to painting, I've learned that you can't really ruin something. You can jack it up... but sanding and repainting normally fixes. Here's an example of a painting debacle I experienced this past weekend...primer over the older paint coat (this primer was not applied to raw plastic) was a total wreck. Sanded it all off, then used a 2 finer grits doing wetsanding to smooth it down more and then repainted. That's why I'm not entirely certain why they are telling you it's impossible to apply a gloss clear coat. If it's just plastic, it should work fine. You shouldn't get the kind of reaction I had with the pics above because you wouldn't be spraying over a different type of paint...just plastic. Do they paint their kits? Is that the issue?
  6. interesting. if its just raw plastic im not sure why it couldnt. that seems odd. i just did a sand trooper w a testors clear lacquer over an Anovos kit (which is just plastic). i dont have a vid. its basically just a rattle can. spray on in thin even coat and let sit to dry then recoat. but if they’re telling u not to do that (which i find strange...but it is their kit) then that puts you in a weird spot.
  7. I dont think thats necessary but it is your decision. The armor itself looks fantastic. Adding a gloss clear coat is minimal work.
  8. The CRL text does say “gloss.”. There is no way to clarify that further in the CRL in my opinion. Within the Legion, GMLs apply the text through the lens of their garrison. In Germany there is a large contingent of Shadow Troopers and my assumption would be they would like a standard uniformity in the appearance among the garrison. And so the level one garrison strives for may differ from one to another based on that interpretation. Regarding RS statement, I would never recommend taking the word of a vendor on what will pass approval and wont. They have no say. In this case, they mention their kits are “made to the original.”. But there are no “original” Shadow Troopers” on screen...so this doesnt address the issue of a “gloss” sheen. The armor may be correct to the details of a TK but thats unrelated to your question regarding gloss. Always consult your local GML. In this case though, the fix is fairly easy. A clear coat of gloss spray paint or lacquer or a full repaint in gloss black should do it and its done. NOTE: Im of the opinion that RS is not glossy enough. But as you can see... @IcyTrooper (who is a GML in his garrison) thinks it is sufficient. Interpretation will vary from garrison to garrison.
  9. Yea I got hit w/ a customs fee once for my first pair of boots (made my own the next go around lol). Fee was like $75 to have the package released. Can happen.
  10. That's about as good a summary as you can get from @762s To add...I have a Chef bucket/kit and I've helped a few build theirs. I like the look and always recommend Chef...good bang for your buck though you do have to consider customs fees and shipping when ordering any of the non-US kit. It's a 5 piece helmet with a split dome and visor that will require painting. In general, that's the toughest part of the armor build...the other armor pieces are essentially just trimming and strapping. I have also assisted a WTF bucket build. It too was a 5 piece kit.
  11. Chest rig pics were already in references thread. I have added the patch. Would we say the patch is more of a Rogue One TIE style material...similar to the Mudtrooper patch?
  12. Were you able to find black tube stripe decals? I'm sure you could contact Trooperbay and ask them to do them in black. When I've ordered shadow scout decals, he normally prints them in matte...but has done them up in gloss for me when I've requested it.
  13. Tagging a couple members who expressed interest in a CRL update. @FarEast @TX-20113
  14. Moved from staff section for member review @nanotek @Blackwatch @IcyTrooper @MahXPrime
  15. To date, the standard (unwritten standard?) has been that the red should be consistent. I don't think we can nail it down to much. Gloss red and leave it at that with a note that the color should be consistent throughout the armor?
  16. There are as of yet no references that depict that...and it's ANH TK counterpart that we could potentially align off of do not allow for those either...so unfortunately no.
  17. Would there be any opposition to adding the T-21 blaster rifle found in the Shadow Squadron 2-pack as an optional weapon?
  18. In the pic above, Weir is using a DLT-20a to hit the Sullustan it would appear. Would there be any opposition to add the DLT-20a option?
  19. Would there be any opposition to align the DLT-19x and DLT-20a options currently allowed by the standard biker scout?
  20. Would there be any opposition to align the DLT-19x and DLT-20a options currently allowed by the standard biker scout? Allow the T-21 found in the Shadow Squadron 2-pack?
  21. Addressed by @Tarrif in conversation. Proposing adding SE-14r blaster based on references. I would be ok w/ adding DLT-20a as well. Thoughts?
  22. Indeed. That sounds more like option 2 though. We wont be creating a separate CRL If option 2 wins out we will do tabs. Option 1...one CRL. Just to clarify, the differentiation between other CRLs would be a byproduct of the name change (added bonus), not the driving factor. The main reason is, “Magma Trooper” isnt what the original reference refers to them as...the Hasbro while not the primary reference, is more aligned with that original reference.
  23. @Brandt8442136 I have used the snaps/popper method before. Id recommend that. Regarding the CRL, you can build your costume to the current CRL if you plan on being done in the very near future. HOWEVER... If you plan on taking a bit of time, you may want to build following the CRL update proposal here: This addresses both the Level 1 and Level 2 requirements that should go into effect sometime early 2020.
  24. Holster moved to optional. Renaming poll posted here: https://forum.specops501st.com/index.php?/topic/7153-poll-magma-trooper-rename/&tab=comments#comment-90509
