  1. Nice! Chris made my boot pieces for my Biker Scout and I love them. He does great work! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks Antje! Lucky enough I'm already an approved Biker Scout so I already have a vest, flight suit, and bund. This is actually Griffin-X armor that I'm modding with a new lid. So it's in great shape I just have to work it to fit my frame. Jim is Wookiee height and I'm more ewok height😃. I'm working on the visor and boots tonight so I'll post up some more progress. 3. That is a nice bucket protector! I had one made for my Scout bucket by Sgt Carida on the 501st boards. If there's one piece of armor I'm protective over it's my bucket😀
  4. Retro the builder.....sewing machine on order boss. So I'll be working soft goods once it gets in. I'm not sure I'll ever want to build a lid again though🙃 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks Sall! I'm getting there...a little slower than I expected but I'll be earning my TX this year by darn!
  6. Thanks Grif! I just want to do justice to this beautiful lid. If I've learned anything it's to take your time especially when trimming.
  7. Continuing to move forward with the lid. Tonight I worked on fitting the faceplate and visor. Lots of measuring, test fitting, trimming, and repeat. It's just about there and I hope to get the faceplate assembly epoxied together tomorrow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. I totally get that and at that price it can't be beat. The reason we do this is to bring the smiles and joy so the armor kind of fades away when the kids (big and little) come. The achievement of lvl 2 & 3 is icing on the cake for us the builders and I'm a firm believer that everyone can do it and there are plenty of folks, like you, that are happy to help folks like me achieve that goal. I love that more and more makers (some good, some bad) are creating armor so more people can join us. I don't want to Shanghai your thread anymore but just say thanks for doing threads like this to help us all become better builders.
  9. It would seem that you would spend more to get it to ESB or Centurion with the replacements and sweat equity then getting a good set and building it to that level to begin with. Both of my scouts are SC and I wouldn't trade them for anything.
  10. It's a shame they don't reach out mostly to the FISD and SpecOps and learn how these are correctly built in the first place. Thanks for the tutorial! This is the kind of stuff that goes in the toolbox. Even though I roll in Scout armor this is good stuff to learn.
  11. Beautiful work as always brother. Have you built a TK before😄
  12. I'm moving forward with my helmet build. I got the two halves together and I'm adding epoxy to strengthen the connections. It looks a little ugly now but that will all be cleaned up as I get further down the assembly path. I got the faceplate visor rough trimmed and I'll be making a few passes with a dremel to finish the trimming before breaking out the sandpaper. Then it's on to the bondo and more sanding until it's smooth as glass. I plan to request Specialist right after I get approved so I want to make sure everything is perfect. 13. Get lots of pics the first one is a memorable one! Congrats on the approval!
  14. Great idea and I did just that. It keeps the suit tight where you boots ride. The scout boots don't run tight enough to keep the fabric there taught. I sewed some 1" elastic into each leg and it keep the flight suit looking nice and tight. The first bit of armor I put on after my suit are my knees followed by my boots. I put my knees on and pull the suit tight then put my boots on. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. That's really fascinating. I'll bet there's a few 88's in there as well. One of my interests is WWII history particularly D-Day and El Alamein. My Grandfather was with Patton's Third Armor and swung across France. Amazing man and amazing stories. Great to see those who keeping those memories alive.
  16. Nice looking bund you're really moving along now! Where'd you snag the visor? I'm looking for one for my shadow lid too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I have a Chef vest which I love. I use that for both my Biker Scout and my Shadow Scout. You can PM him here and see if he's available. You can also make one yourself if you're so inclined. There is a great tutorial for making a vest and I can see if I can post it here if you're interested.
  18. No it's not required per the CRL on the 501st site. That being said I would recommend one as it really rounds out the "look" and gives the upper armor more texture with the sleeves coming out under the shoulder bells. Again, it's optional but it is something you might want to consider. Check out Sall's and Antje's build threads they both made vests.
  19. It's the scary Chef "looking for volunteers" shot . I just couldn't work out the slant to the visor in my mind until I saw this pic. Back on my head:)
  20. Woot! Awesome to hear Carlos! Here's a few pics of my flight suit that might help. Back with Flap Front Mandarin Collar The material is black suede from Tandy leather but you can use faux suede if you want. Hope that helps some. I'll try to hunt down the riding patch pattern if I can and post it up for you but it's kinda based on the person wearing it so it might be worth working through that with your suit on.
  21. I was having trouble until I saw this and then it clicked. The visor cants in rather than sit square like my Altmanns scout bucket. That was throwing me off. Thanks for the mugshot Chef! Ok it's on now!
  22. ...By Your Command...(spoken with Cylon inflection of course.)
  23. Awesome Sall! We're all behind you trooper!
  24. Ok thanks to our resident shadow siren Furiosa nudging me I got back on this. I started assembly of my Chef bucket last night. I glued in the alignment tabs for the main bucket halves and I'll be putting them together tonight with my plastic epoxy. The faceplate and visor are giving me some issues so I could use a few pointers there. Mostly in the area of how deep the faceplate should be from the visor.
