Presenting the EVO Trooper

Yep, Legos make nice square, smooth molds and I can build a Lego box faster than I can build a wood box, so they work great for me!

Anyway, hope to get started on the bigger parts tomorrow. :)

Hello

I had a couple of questions?

Will there be a run for these helmets again?

Do you think in the future you will do a armor kit for this?

If so do you think you would do the black abs for this or just the white?

Thank you

Hey Dorothy!

The EVO helmets (and kits when I get there) are going to be ongoing runs, I'll never stop making them (just send me a message whenever you need something). I guess I need to be a little more on top of bumping that for sale thread!

I"m working on the armor kits right now, school has been soaking up almost all my free time lately and has been continually setting me back with this project. I am getting very close thought, just need to find some time and finish it up. I have told myself that I'm going to try and get something accomplished on them this weekend (I don't think I have any essays to write....:)). Stay tuned for those!

And I won't be offering the kits in ABS (they will be in HIPS though, much easier for me to work with for my setup). Most of the smaller parts will be cast resin (white in color). You did give me an idea though. I will probably do the shoulders and kneeplates in black HIPS now (since they're black on the EVO) and the rest of the vacuum formed parts (chestbox, hand plates, finger plates) will be white HIPS. I was going to make everything with white HIPS, but now might as well make the black parts, black.

Thanks (and feel free to keep bugging me)!!

Fantastic. Thanks for replying. I can just paint the parts black for the evo shadow trooper so that's no problem. I'm working on deathwatch project so I'm learning to paint and weather so hopefully I can use those skills.

Yay I'm so excited :)

No problem Dorothy, do be careful about the black with the Shadow EVO, he's actually mostly dark gray and silver with a few parts painted black. It's similar to my TFU Shadow, just a darker gray and less lights. :) One kneeplate is black and the two shoulder bells are partially black (arrows 1 and 2 in the pic below). Everything else is more of a dark gray color, look at arrow 3 in my pic. You can see the black chinball on the helmet as well as the dark gray chestplate.

Anyway, everything is looking up so far to get out in the garage and work EVO stuff this weekend (unless the doors freeze shut this week, -30 degrees with wind chill yesterday, stupid winter). :)

Decided that this weekend was the weekend of the EVO. :) Been working on the last few pieces. Shoulder is getting very close to being finished, just a tad more filling and sanding needed and it will be ready. Also worked on re-sculpting one of my handplates. I must not have added enough resin when I made the orginal casting (way back when I built this thing), so it was a little funky. The black mark is where it used to extend too. So spent a bit of time to make them more symmetrical. Overall have had a productive weekend so far!

I'm going to try and get some bondo on the kneeplate today. Hopefully will be able to get that set by the end of the day. :) I'm going to order the last bit of silicone needed this week, hopefully get the last part molded next weekend and get the finishing touches done. I set a deadline for myself too; two weeks from today I want to have the first test kit made up. Getting very close now guys, hold on!!

Thank you very much everyone!! I'm very excited to see some more EVOs around (2014 is going to be the year of the EVO). :)

I haven't been able to work on much so far this week (class :P). But tomorrow I"m going to start wrapping everything up! I'm also hoping to get the CRL text tidied up this weekend, with pics coming after the new parts are done. And I'll get started on my EVO tutorial/break down to help you guys see how I put everything together. I've got "spring" (more like winter) break in a couple weeks, so I'm aiming for that to be the first week of production. I'm still aiming to get the first test kit done next week though (still give me some time to tweak things)!!

Well got a bit done on the kneeplate today! It's still a little rough but definitely liking how the shape came out!

There's a little depression I noticed that will need to be corrected (the green circle). Other than that I'm liking it! I'll get that fixed and get the rest of it sanded, then add the edge molding. Still have a little bit of work on the shoulder, but should definitely have everything set by the end of the weekend. CRL V2.0 is ready to go as well! Sunday, I hope to spend some time writing tutorials. Still on track for the first test kit next weekend! :)

I used boots that had no elastic on them (not TK boots). Just about any kinda boot that has a similar feel to TK boots but without the elastic should work. Here's a side shot of my EVO to show what I'm talking about.

For the belt, I used ABS for it. The belt in the references has a sheen to it like the armor and I like my plastic belts. :)

And for an update on the kits, the armor parts are getting very close to being finished. School has set me back a bit (yeah boring papers and projects!!), but I still managed to do some work here and there on them. Just a tiny bit of finishing work left which I'll get done this weekend as well as making some plaster reinforcements for the shoulder and kneeplate. Even though I'm a bit behind where I'd like to be, I should still be on track to get started making kits next week!

Oh and I'm also rebuilding my EVO. Since half the parts are ripped off already, figured I might try to redo some things to make it a little more accurate (going for Specialist once CRL is in place). I'll upload some pics tomorrow of some of the things I'm rebuilding (mostly the pack and pouches, other things are just minor adjustments).
