Death Trooper CRL - First draft

Recommended Posts

All

I extended the deadline for comments on the draft CRL due to allow the continued discussion over the paint finishes, etc. General consensus is that there are some panels/details on both the helmet and upper body armour that are colour contrasted using an alternative black paint finish to the gloss black. This is subtle but the evidence indicates that it is there. So this will remain in the draft CRL at this time.

There was also discussion around the ribbing and specific sizing. While I feel it is wholly appropriate to have the sizing in the CRL I understand that it will be difficult for people to achieve the exact dimensions and this could impact on their clearance. As such I have changed the wording to indicate that the sizing must be approximately ?? mm.

I have not made any further changes to what is basic or level 2 clearance. This I level to the Spec Ops Command Staff.

I believe that this draft CRL is now complete (excluding a couple of photos) and I will therefore submit it to the Command Staff for their review.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the development of this build. Special thanks goes to Tom Campbell for providing the model and parts photographs.

Have fun with your builds.

Thanks Mark for all your efforts and I was more than happy to contribute to the construction of the CRL.

This is the first time I have been able to assist at the evolution stage of a CRL and it has been most interesting.

It is great to get other peoples perspective on things as it can open your eyes up to things that you may have not seen.......especially after you have looked over the same images a million times...lol

So lets hope the process goes smoothly and if you need anymore photos please let me know.

Cheers Tom

Was my first time as well Tom :)

Point of note.

I had intended that the fitting of leds should be optional but it has been pointed out that in at least one place in the CRL I had not stated that. I have just modified it (led strip on e-11d). I will recheck to make sure this is the case elsewhere.

Contrasting Paint or not! That has been a debate that has run here and elsewhere over the DT costume. The consensus of opinion was that there was subtle contrasting on the costume. I can now confirm that this is correct.

Glyn Dillon is Co - costume designer for Rogue One and has helped us out before with info on the Shoretrooper etc. So I posed the question to him.

He will hopefully confirm the colour so we can put this one to bed :)

Due to a lack of readily available reference material I have made a small change to the draft CRL regarding the scope on the helmet.

The only reference we have is the cover of the Visual Reference Guide which shows only a green LED. No other colour LED is visible.

Apologies from the 11th hour update.

So? What feedback did you get from the Legion?

When I spoke to Steve last night they were still looking at it.

On omission that has been spotted recently relates to the torso wrap that sits behind the lower back and abdominal plate. I will be updating the draft CRL above shortly to accommodate it :)

Hi guys !

I've a feedback about the CRL and especially on the specialist's weaponry.

Here is what it say :

"The specialist variant of the Death Trooper shall meet the requirements of the standard trooper with the following additions:

Death Trooper Specialist Long Range Blaster Rifle

For 501st Approval:Modified DLT-19"

Why the DLT-19X is mandatory ?

Why have we not to choose between the E11-D and the DLT19-X ?

Here 3 pictures of the movie :

On this one, we can see the guy in the middle have a DLT19-X but he don't wear the pauldron and no ammo chest rig and no grenades.

The guy on the right have a pauldron AND the E11-D and certainly the ammo chest rig with grenades.

5-reasons-rogue-one-a-star-wars-story-is-a-dark-forces-movie-in-disguise-924293.jpg

Here, the picture has been inverted. But we can see the guy on right have a Pauldron AND a E11-D.

Rogue-One-Death-Troopers.jpg

And on this one, in the background, the two guys on both side of the shuttle are carrying a DLT19-X but have no pauldron neither ammo chest rig.

So, specialist or not, we should choose between the DLT19-X and the E11-D.

Thanks,

Cordially.

Received great news from the LMO - Tom model DT is great and there are no problems. There only minor semantic things the LMO team wants to make and is working through.

On weapons, please note, weapons are never required with any 501st costume. These will always be optional accessories.

For information, and to address an earlier omission, the draft CRL now contains a description for the abdominal/Kidney Gasket (the torso wrap I referred to earlier).

All,

The Death Trooper CRL is now live. I'll announce it on the legion forums after I post here.

It may seem like it but I do not have it out for SpecOps nor am I intentionally trying to crap in your wheaties. The Shoretrooper placement was utterly bungled by me. I still stand by the decision but I did not handle the situation well. I waited far too long to make a decision and it caused both camps to be dug in and emotionally invested in the costume. I regret my actions, or inactions.

Part of the reason it was difficult for me is that I've always had a great affection for the SpecOps detachment and its leadership. SpecOps has always been led the same way I tried to run FISD when I was DL, with a spirit of inclusion, transparency and a dedication to helping anyone who asks. I wanted to send the Shoretrooper this way out of basic favoritism not what was best for the legion. I'll likely be apologizing, not for the eventual placement, but for my bungling of the decision for years to come.

If I have the privilege and honor to be LMO again in 2017 I promise to find a way to improve costume placement before EP8 costumes start piling up.

With that said I gave the Death Trooper a TX not a DT.

I fully understand that the legion's two letter costume designations have become a strong source of identity for members. We wear them proudly on our racing shirts and other personalized swag. However that was never their intent to begin with. Originally they were a way to group costumes in the member database.

For many years we had a handful of them and all costumes were lumped into one of these groups. Somewhere along the way, around the time clones were at the height of their popularity things went awry. Suddenly there were seemingly more clone designations than all of the other costume types (not really but some days it feels that way). Philosophically I believe we should reduce the number of two letter designations for the sake of clarity and organization of our member database. That is why I have said no to creating new ones in 2016. Off the top of my head I've said no to TFA TKs being FN and Deathwatch costumes getting a DW. They are both TK and BH respectively.

That said I set aside my strong philosophical feelings for the Shoretrooper given the contentious nature of the detachment placement. As not to perpetuate the vitriol I gave them the ST designation rather than TB. I suspected that no one that was against the costume going to the bikers would have settled quietly for being a TB, as much as I still want it to be.

Here is a list of the current two letter costume designations as it stands now.

I hope even if you do not agree you understand my position. My other hope is that all of the approved death troopers are as proud to wear a TX on their shirts as they would be a DT, because you folks should have every reason to be proud to be a SpecOps members.

I'll also tell you what I told the FO TKs: There is nothing stopping you from putting DT-XXXX on your personalized merch. To date I have not seen a FO TK use FN on their gear, but they could.

Thank you for your time and patience.
