Rat's WTF Crimson Stormtrooper Build

Recommended Posts

So I'll need to get used to the new forum format, I've gotten used to FISD. So I'm an already approved TK at Centurion, third, level. My CO had a kit just sitting around collecting dust so he made me an offer that my wife was okay with and now here I am meeting you fine troopers over here. Still waiting to collect that BBB, but im gonna proactively start my build thread for the eventual early questions.

So I've noticed the build will be familiar enough, but it seems some of the materials will be different. Such as I've noticed that the shoulder straps are supposed to be canvas and not elastic. Paint schemes are different, but I think use the same colors as the TK. Speaking of what is an appropriate red for the rivets? Is the bracket strapping system okay or should I use snap plates? See the questions have started. I'm sure I'll have a few more.

So waiting on the BBB, boots Will be painted Caboots, I already have my blaster, my holster should double over, though I may make a new one.

So I think that is it for now and I look forward to the build and meeting some new troopers as well as new detachment affiliation.

Sounds like a good start!

For basic there is nothing about straps, but for the Specialist level it doesn't mention elastic or canvas, but I'd say elastic would be the way to go. I just answered the red part on my paint thread that I'll have to test to see. ^_^

Bracket or snap is your choice, I know people who have done both with the magmas. I personally use Velcro because of my body type (skinny).

So it is safe to say I can treat this build the same as a TK?

Pretty much...as far as materials and build techniques go.  In terms of getting Specialist, reference the link I copied for you.  I believe FISD did an update on their ANH TK not too long ago while ours here hasnt been updated in some time (we are currently working on updates for our TK style costumes), so the CRLs of TK to TX are not identical. Follow the magma CRL as it is currently to avoid issues.

I figured I would follow the magma CRL. The TK changes were pretty minor and mostly for clarity. So as I understand the magma CRL for basic and specialist no rivets are seen except for the thigh ammo belt correct? All white elastic is black. I also noticed that the reference photos show the drip boxes as being black, but that the crl model they are red. Is there anything to clarify that they should not be black? I sort of like the black boxes, but will keep them red if necessary.

I can't stress it enough.  Follow the CRL.  This includes the model pictures that are a part of the CRL.  Red drop boxes would be included in this.  Any deviation from that, and you risk an issue w/ your GML. (Yes, I know that the GG statue has black boxes...but currently where the CRL stands that wouldn't clear your GML).

Regarding rivets (side rivets specifically)...again I'm not sure where you're reading that they aren't there.  These are your Specialist requirements in addition to the base CRL.  Anything else you may have read elsewhere (such as the canvas shoulder strapping), disregard.

Ah no I'm just having a bit of a time navigating these forums and I can't seem to access the 501st section at all. The same goes for Tapatalk, I try to log in and it says my user name doesn't exist. Just trying to learn the navigation and find some good build threads.

Tapatalk...we discontinued use of that here due to security issues w/ it following our forum upgrade/update.  You won't be able to use it.

For 501st member access, you should be able to see everything EXCEPT the detachment member areas.

My suggestion is to open a web browser on your phone and keep it open permanently (check "remain logged in" or somesuch) and browse forums via that.  That's what I do.  Just keep the window active as a tab and refresh as needed when I visit.

Okay then that makes sense. It's what I've been doing.

Hey David it's not as much that I read it anywhere but rather being unclear about it after reading through the CRL. Like I said I'm just getting use to the different format. Which is why I asked if it was basically a standard TK build.since outwardly it appears to be just that. That was all and really just looking for some clarification.

But you've cleared it up some so thanks for that.

I think you may have use the [ IMG] and [/ IMG] (remove the spaces) with the URLs to insert them. That is what I have to do with URLs on Flickr.

Also good color on those boots!

Let the packages arrive. Just got my hardware set from Joseph over on FISD. Now that my image uploading issue is solved the real build thread can start. This will be much like Ukswraith, Sony's build thread. I'll cover it all as I go.cL8M4v3.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

So a bit of mail came in so snaps are in hand, Tandy line 24 of course.fToVj4k.jpg

Then I picked up the BBB on Wednesday prior to our Weird Al troop.FyoK6e8.jpg

Yes it looks pink, but it is red. Just waiting on a replacement thigh ammo pack. But the trimming shall begin this weekend.

Do I've begun tough trimming. I've noticed there really isn't much to remove so this should go pretty quickly.ZyGmVEP.jpg

Need to figure out how much return edge I want to keep though and for some areas it won't be much.

Trimming is mostly completed I'll be using snap plates with this build so I've minimized the return edge to between 3 and 5mm.FTuQzSQ.jpg

So up next will be sizing and construction.
