  1. Yea @TeaJay I was aware of the bars…was just curious if a correlation between those and the hats existed…ie do all the guys wout bars have the same hat, all guys w bars have same hat and so on. But if it’s confirmed there is no correlation that answers my question. Thanks!
  2. Do you think Tamaryn’s rank plays a part in the lines? Just thinking out loud
  3. Another question then…if the goggles are affixed to the bucket/TU should the goggles be included in the helmet entry or have its own entry like the Mudtrooper?
  4. Well done @BLACKFOX! Ur becoming a Spec Ops lifer! Unrelated to this…so about that Rocket Trooper update we discussed awhile ago….
  5. @Detaleader Welcome! I think I agree with almost everything you say in principle. Since we took the Army in I think Ive always been of the mindset “we may have to let this go at some point” in spite of the crazy amount of hours I’ve put in personally to help give the IA a home here. My hope is we’ve made them feel welcome (it was an absolutely intentional effort) and that we’ve grafted and trained members on our staff who specialize in those builds (I think our current DCA staff alone has 4 IA types). All that to say, Im 100% for supporting the IA members of Spec Ops in whatever they choose…even if that means theyve outgrown the need for the Spec Ops umbrella. Out of curiosity @nanotek @IcyTrooper, whats our current ACTIVE count of members with IA costumes (granted I know that count could change a decent amount in a few dats when census ends and some possibly get moved to reserve/retired)?
  6. @TeaJay @fb501 (and others) would the cast goggles qualify as a Level 2 requirement in your opinion OR a totally unnecessary add? I see the Level 1 requirement holds that the the strap would sit below the TU (like the Muddy) not on top. Remove or alter this line?
  7. Just to chime in…and steer back to the original topic… IF (emphasis) you wish to pursue a 100% accurate build to a singular source I would definitely encourage it BUT that would be a much longer (quite possibly impossible) road to what you stated your goals were (membership to the det and specialist status). Nonetheless, Id be more than willing to help. In that case, we could end this particular topic n move to a build thread. I dont want to go down the rabbit hole of the survival guide topic you referenced (thats an entirely different subject not quite related to the original question posted)…I do have thoughts but that would take us way off road…so that aside… Going back to the very original topic of the collar…I think in either case whether attempting a comic-specific, trading card specific or video game specific build, I still dont see where a folded down collar or a collar that could be opened and split down the center would stand any check against references to be allowed where I still do feel from what I see that a closed collar holds more true to at least some of the references (though I would agree in others it isnt as apparent if it is a closed collar or simply fabric). The reference I posted earlier for example shows no “split” in the collar from which to fold down and open. It’s flat (“sealed”) fabric. All other references also show no split that would allow a fold-down. But with that said, if you are starting a build now for the current Shadow Scout and seeking approval (or have already started one) I think you should follow the current guidelines pertaining to the collar as I personally dont see anything that would justify an immediate change to the CRL. Im not sure if you are looking to source your flightsuit from Chef but I do know he makes (made) them with closed collars as he made my original flightsuit. Hope that helps.
  8. not sure if he wore this one but @Tarrif (Sebastian) wore something in Andor PS I will chip in my 2 cents on this topic at some point
  9. The Shadow Scout (er Storm Commando) along w a few of our older CRLs created back when CRLs had much looser standards for getting created…coupled with changing staff (LMO and detachment) whose interpretation and/or enforcement of standards would (does) vary year to year. All that to say…the Shadow Scout was initially created off of a compilation of various references from various sources none of which really come close to matching each other let alone a ROTJ scout. Because of the varying sources, a literal approach (which seems more like what you’re suggesting or at least leaning) would require much more than addressing the collar…in actuality that would mean creating 3 or more separate CRLs or variations of the costume most of which would require specific customized armor parts. Speaking directly to the collar, there is at least one reference (possibly more) that do indicate an upright closed collar. But as you can see, the armor is much different than a standard scout here. At the last update, the team decided to maintain a “realistic” version of the costume which paralleled the ROTJ scout which started us down the path of narrowing the primary source to the SWG video game without totally trampling and upsetting all past Shadow Scouts…BUT it was definitely discussed as a topic about possibly adding variants to the CRL that mirrored the references independently…and then possibly renaming to Storm Commando…at some point in the future if we found willing builders. Long post ugh sorry…so yea, references that are all over the place and limited, alot of precedent w/ the CRL already (for better or worse)…make this one a tricky CRL. My personal take, emphasis this is just my personal opinion, I would love to see something like this happen: -Rename to Storm Commando and create variants specific to each reference (vid game, comic, trading card) and make a final decision to either continue or cease alignment w/ ROTJ for a “realistic” version…since it already exists we cant just delete it.
  10. For now we will just keep picking at details and see what you have later. THX!
  11. @Trachta Very interesting…the joint “undersuit”. Was that CGI’d out of the screen appearance to look empty?
  12. @MisterxM if I could make a suggestion…if you are 100% a go, Id say lets get the CRL wordsmiths and any that would like to help on this with you to draft a version based on what we find as we find it. That should help you prep your build and help avoid some surprises while you are building. @IcyTrooper @Blackwatch @Chaos @tipperaryred and any others are the best at wording the details and requirements. @nanotek whatcha think? that sound ok?
  13. I will say @tipperaryred Im rooting for you. I personally was never a fan of the red, but an all black version w a helmet that doesnt look like a bobble head is up my alley. If drafting a CRL based mostly off previous ones can be done, Id say do the draft and make the minor adjustments and then give it a shot!
  14. Typically @tipperaryred it is in reverse…where action figures (in this case the miniatures) get disregarded, not the art. That being said, consistency over 25 years on whats done hasnt been the best. The question I have…is there enough art to support a CRL and build (front back sides) OR will the LMOs allow the use of the miniatures to “fill in gaps” that art doesn’t give such as the back?
  15. The right arm looks the same in both pics to me, but yea I see that the pic w the dark saber the left arm does look different than the the duel w Sabine. Eek lol. This happens all the time w/ comics, not as much on screen. That may mean we should dig and find some more references from the show and see if there’s some “progression” or evolution the armor takes thru the episodes. I dont know. Could just be an error/inconsistency.
  16. When I zoom up on the hand plate triangle it just looks like weathered paint. No elevation or recession that I can see. I would say the handplate is just attached to the glove, not the forearm armor. But yea, if you are building Gar, that forearm armor is different than the 3D model for sure.
  17. Im just screen capturing on my phone and cropping. Here I think you’re right that the squares should probably go lower closer to the wrist. One thing I noticed is that Gar’s armor is not identical to the others in a few spots and these forearms are the first example. No angled V section at all (though I do agree with your assessment that the V in the 3D model is sharper than what we see on the grunts). And while we are looking around the hands, Id say the hand plate is a little wider and shorter…the triangle larger…and the triangle is just a painted icon, not a raised detail (or etched). On the forearm it looks like painted white lines outlined in black. Comparing that to the helmet lines…those look to have depth and seem etched and I think you could make the case that the forehead triangle outline is etched.
  18. Yea…we (or you) just need to look at the the rest of the parts and make comparisons to what we see in the actual references. Take a look at those parts and compare n post what you think you see
  19. Its hard to say at first glance without doing a side by side comparison (as best as we can muster) with the actual references. No one has ever come close to presenting any progress or costume drafts that we have done that. Starting with just the helmet, Id say its pretty close but not perfect. Things that could be better: -Gaps between the teeth seem to wide. -The visor slit down the center is shaped like a thin inverted V while the reference is more straight or even slightly wider in the center (tho still thin all the way down). -The helmet face appears to slope outwards in the 3D model…but this shot makes it seem more flat/almost no slope from the face. Cant find a good reference shot on file to show the back. Are those details deal breakers? I cant say…but just things I noticed on the bucket to start.
  20. Im shocked it didnt get a base approval as well. Garrison? The suggestion by @Chaos is solid. Foam in the forearms so theyre a bit more snug so you can adjust where they sit a bit better. Id attempt the minor adjustment and a resubmission before moving on from it
  21. i typed a post and forgot to click submit lol. doh! anyways…this is the master list we have (so far) of vendors. https://forum.specops501st.com/topic/7727-vendor-master-list-stormtroopers/ i suggest the recruit create an account and post here so they can get assistance from all the folks here
  22. Don’t think of each as a “level”…think of them as entirely different costumes. When we examine the references closely, my guess is many of the parts you use for the animated won’t be able to be used for the realistic. Now…just go for it! ?
