  1. Let's reel it in a bit guys. We are currently discussing the BOOTS and GLOVES specifically. Try to keep focus there. @amcclary the jacket description you quoted has been heavily modified from the original you copied (see previous posts on page 5). This is what was most recently discussed and no alternative feedback had been given regarding editing it at the time. I haven't updated it quite yet on the original post just yet (may create a separate locked post to manage what the group has accepted as a whole and leave the original post alone). Tunic/Jacket A long-sleeved, Olive Grey, jacket that falls between upper and mid thigh. Has a mandarin style collar with an open front Has two panels on either side of the front, hidden zipper, extending to the bottom of the jacket with a width of approximately 6" in width. Has a stitched "cuff" on the sleeve that extends to around the middle of the forearm. If side pockets are present, they are built into the jacket, with no covering flaps present. No outer stitched pockets are acceptable unless they are fully covered by the armor. May have code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole. Shall be moderately to heavily weathered. Optional Level 2: Jacket is made of an Olive Grey 12-14 oz Bull denim Twill material. There is an imperial cog patch sewn on each shoulder. There are code cylinder pockets on both outside panels of the jacket from about half way between the top and bottom on the arm hole.
  2. @JAFO can you show those boot buckle/straps specifically? can't see them myself either but if you can point em out that would be great! thx!
  3. Next pieces to discuss will be boots and gloves...remember as Izzi stated earlier...we are not pinning down which boots and gloves fit the mold. Rather, we are defining what features need to be present for the pants or jacket to pass inspection (copy/paste verbatim lol). This is what was initially presented...we can edit/adjust from there. Boots Knee High black leather or leather like material. “Kerseyâ€ or “jackbootâ€ style. Free of laces, decorative stitching, buckles on the instep or any other embellishments. Boots may have a single adjustment strap at the top outside of the boot. This need not be functional. Zippers on the inside of the boot are acceptable, so long as they are concealed. If the zipper is not covered by vinyl/ leather, it is painted black. Boots shall be tall enough to fit both shin straps. Boots shall be heavily weathered Gloves Black gloves with black leather or leather-like material on the palm, thumb, and forefinger. The black oval detail is aligned with the index finger of each hand. Gloves have a U shaped velcro closure. Gloves shall have all logos removed. Highlander brand special ops gloves are best match to reference.
  4. I messaged @izzi to clarify and he is referring to the bottom portion of the tunic (where it splits)…there is a seam of stitching on the left and right that appear to make "panels." I think it's exactly what you referenced @JAFO. So we are talking approx. 6" in width? If so, I can edit/update and then move on to the next 2 pieces. Thanks!
  5. Indeed. I was under the impression the pack was the current topic. Going back through the thread, it appeared that the majority of the CRL has been addressed and updated (unless I'm overlooking something). @Blackwatch which pieces of the CRL still need to be tidied up?
  6. Cool. Just clarifying. Thx! So my next question would be...can the “look” be achieved with a frame and possibly kept for Level 1 while adding that no frame must be present for Level 2? I looked up the HWT crl to reference that pack description (as this one resembles it) and it makes no mention of a frame for or against. What would your opinion (and everyone’s here) be on that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I'm with you Neal. It does not appear to have a frame. That said…the way the CRL is currently drafted, it cites the Heavy Weapons as a reference but allows for a frame so long as the main body of the pack matches the art. Are you suggesting removing that frame option altogether? Thanks!
  8. Pushing this forward for @izzi a bit. Before we move on to the next set of pieces, are there any adjustments to the tunic and pants that need to be considered (please take note of his previous questions in yellow)? Here was his latest update for review... Updated descriptions (as of 7/22): Pants Black heavy cotton pants with double reinforced thighs. They do not have pockets or other adornment on the legs. Shall be moderately to heavily weathered. Tunic/Jacket A long-sleeved, Olive Grey, jacket that falls between upper and mid thigh. Has a mandarin style collar with an open front - (taken from the couple movie stills and the Hot Toys figure as a supporting reference) Has two panels on either side of the front, hidden zipper, extending to the bottom of the jacket with a width of approximately ???. - (Still need a rough estimate for those panels) Has a stitched "cuff" on the sleeve that extends to around the middle of the forearm.
  9. You were going to go diving…just of a different kind then lol. Cool…well good luck on the boots!
  10. Not sure of the current scout jumpsuit makers these days. Mine is from Chef…but he's from the UK. @furiosa who makes jumpsuits in the US that you know? As far as the snout, yes that would be painted solid black then.
  11. Gotcha. The helmet kit I have is nothing like KS. Mine is a Chef bucket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Snout greeblie? Mine is not painted. Nor the tank topper or biceps. Whichever paint sheen you choose, decals look best when contrasting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I have a 5 piece helmet kit. No rivets required. Held together w a plastic strip, some e6000, and fiberglass inside...bondo outside to smooth the seam. Ive never built an SC helmet tho. Id be interested to see this video because using rivets on the bucket would not be my recommendation. Have a link? Ill see if I can grab you some pics of mine so you can see no rivets should be needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Not stupid. Ask away! Should only need the rivets if you're going for Level 2 Specialist approval…which I always encourage people to do. That said, 12 rivets in total…2 for each knee (4 total), 2 for the belt, 4 for the boot holster, 1 for the bottom of the tank to attach to back plate, and 1 for the tank topper. No rivets for the helmet. Rivets aren't anyting special…if I remember correctly I just bought a rivet tool w/ the pop rivets of different length included…either at Harbor Freight or Wal-Mart. I'd show you which one for certain but all my stuff is packed in moving boxes. Maybe someone else here has one on hand they can show you.
  15. Greeblies are unpainted…black resin parts. Everything else is painted (including rivets) and then decals (I used gloss to to contrast the satin) applied. Only exception to the paint…is the chest indentation. That was taped off and left gloss to contrast as well. The kit was originally black gloss.
  16. THANKS! Same sole…in regards to the cuts you mean? Yes…well…mine is a tad older so the cuts don't mimic the latest latest update the TB went through (in the front)…but essentially yes…same as TB simply black.
  17. The current crl model is a gloss...but the current crl allows for semi-gloss (which some interpret that sheen as satin). Since the sheens technically are different the specific semantics will be something we address in a very-near crl update proposal (among other things). Cant see your pic on my phone but I’ll check it out. You can see some of satin spray paint here: http://forum.specops501st.com/index.php?/topic/3888-raider-kill-count-78/ The last couple posts on this thread have the new autobody paint job. There are 70-80 Shadow Scouts (at least according to the last census I believe). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Look me up on FB (David Sihombing)…though I do (highly) suggest posting a forum build thread here to get input from the many scout builders here. Maybe in that thread post up some pics of where your kit stands now? Particular paint…not necessarily…initially did a satin spray paint (Krylon plastic something or other…which I've heard is discontinued). Lately, I just had an auto body paint job done w/ satin clear coat. Mmmmmmm.
  19. Looks great! Congrats trooper!!!
  20. Not UK Sall but heres an option maybe: https://trooperbay.com/flexible-hand-guards-in-white-black-or-plain Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Painting works! Many people, myself included, paint their kits even if the original plastic is black.
