Imperial Security Trooper - Andor - CRL Discussion
Blackwatch replied to nanotek's topic in Imperial Security Trooper - Andor
I see it, not sure that I want to write that into the CRL tho. Ive seen times where a GML will reject based on the smallest detail, and I dont want to create that avenue. If a person wants to add that based on the evidence they can Helmet proposal V.1.4 Helmet An open-faced, flared helmet which consists of a dome with rim and helmet skirt. A telemetry unit is attached to the right side of the dome and is aligned with the rim. The telemetry unit consists of a rectangle box with detailing that should match the reference image. The telemetry unit is black. The lower end of the telemetry unit sits out from the helmet to allow the goggle elastic to feed underneath. A raised lip covers the edge of the helmet rim. The lip may be either molded in place, or added as a black trim. Trim shall not exceed 3/8" (10mm" Metal/silver Imperial code disks are positioned on both sides of the helmet skirt. The helmet is to be painted black to match the armor. The helmet may feature has a black chin cup with grey webbing strap. OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The trim on the helmet rim is a black trim added to the helmet. The helmet has a webbing style head suspension similar to work hard hats. layered foam lining the inside. 3 inch (76.5mm) web suspension with foam around the perimeter. Imperial Code Disks do not feature a notch or groove details. Goggles and strap may be permanently mounted to the helmet, with the telemetry unit mounted directly atop the goggle strap. The chin cup is similar to a Rawlings athletic chin cup. -

Gentlemen, while I do appreciate the candor and insight, lets steer back to our Helmet and complete that before moving on. Weve already come this far on basically re writing this helmet, Id like to finish it before we do anything else. -
Question on E-10 Sling

In the 80s my M16 had the cheapest nylon sling ever. I didnt like it, and other rifles I had had much better slings. -

Ok, so lets take a look at this. its not a big change for L2. Im going to write this as "similar to" because the real chin cups were casts, which MIGHT have come from a Rawlings cup. I see what you mean, the goggle strap is literally flipped inside out from how i was mounted to the mudtrooper. So, originally I saw the X stras across the top of the helmet as some sort of webbing, that was my initial call. Are you seeing foam all the way around the perimiter? I see what looks like a wedge inside near the ears to help hold it stable without wobbling, if that's actually what Im interpreting. Im not following you on the Yugo pack, but I do agree that the straps mount to the screws holding the ear disks in place, all of my open face helmets of the type are made that way. The lenses are tinted for the Rixx road security troopers, and it appears to be a uniform green tint. Thats no problem to add. -
There should be no zippers as depicted in the CRL photos. The flaps go over the top, and velcro is allowed. If they come with straps, tidy those up before submission photos. Im using these https://www.amazon.com/CONDOR-Handcuff-Pouch-Navy-MA47-006/dp/B07QNM9F5F/ref=sr_1_10?adgrpid=1337007479332678&hvadid=83563261920483&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=51299&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-83563838299577%3Aloc-190&hydadcr=7665_13584010&keywords=molle+handcuff+pouches&qid=1683232379&sr=8-10

On first inspection it looked like web strapping going across the top and sides, but I believe you may be right, this is casting a shadow liked stacked foam with foam wedges on the sides. Ill adjust the text for the L2. Helmet proposal V.1.3 Helmet An open-faced, flared helmet which consists of a dome with rim and helmet skirt. it could have been made up separately and screwed on later when the goggle strap was mounted underneath it, trapping it. -

we dont have a place that sells MG paints anymore, they used to be sold at Michaels but they took all the stock out. Id like to order a can next weekend and see what it looks like. For the full effect, is there anything that needs to be done to the MG Anthracite, such as a grey or black primer, to give it its full color saturation? -

I think so since we know the stunt helmets were just cast. here we are at V 1.2 Helmet An open-faced, flared helmet which consists of a dome with rim and helmet skirt. So with that said lets try this: Helmet An open-faced, flared helmet which consists of a dome with rim and helmet skirt. Questions about Hard Parts
Blackwatch replied to stormachtig's topic in Imperial Army Trooper - Andor
We have a new-to-Garrison Iden with old Jason Hill armor, actually one of his prototypes. it came with a big square of ABS to join the front and back together so she has it taped in there. -

I think at least some had a rubber trim but @fb501 would best be able to answer that. It was not really discussed previously. On the lenses we know some did not have lenses because they fell out. Current CRL text for Aldhani says tinted and TBH Im fine with leaving it that way. Im not convinced on the texture, and I dont want to write something into a CRL that will give a GML reason to deny. Ive seen that happen dozens of times. if a person wants to do it, fine, its their choice. -

Troopers I believe we can finalize the text for our helmet. There are no discernable major differences, and the chin cup may be identified, however with a different strap. The only thing I believe we can change, is the text of the googles. Instead of "are permanently mounted to the helmet" I would like to remove that text since they go flying during the Rix Road altercation. I believe that "may be" at the discretion of the builder would suffice, as long as the strap is trapped by the TU on the side of the helmet. Here is our text proosal: Helmet An open-faced, flared helmet which consists of a dome with rim and helmet skirt. I have this exact rawlings chin cup and it is TINY. it is kid size, so I believe it may have been made for the show, perhaps based on this shape. I thought I could use these for my other Army trooper helmets (pictured left) but there was no way. I could literally lay my thumb inside of it. Early in the discussion Fraser told us that they were very thinly/cheaply cast and by the time he got to the set for the road to Nasma Klain the chincups broke. Concerning the color and shade, if you look at the scene where Marva is being projected above the crowd and the Security Troopers are massed, the riot sheild is black. It has absorbed all light. The troopers and their armor are a different shade when viewed from a distance but appear close when viewed at close range. This may be accounted for any cleacoat that was used. Edit- I would like to keep the helmet discussion open for one more day, wrapping up the helmet tomorrow and moving on to the next item on the list. -
Basic approval will be made at the Garrison level by your GML. Once your GML has approved it, i strongly enourage you to apply for Specialist . note that the shape of your TU is different than that of the CRL images.

So, with all the discussion we had regarding the color and nailing it down to panzer grey range, was that entirely due to lighting? I have to ask because we spent literally weeks debating the color, buying paint, testing, all the effort that was put into it, and now the day after we publish the CRL we are told its black. No, it would not be an easy process since all photos with all versions need to be completely redone, after all the armors are repainted. It was a push to the finish to get all the armor together. That said, having rewatched the entire series yesterday the Aldhani armor does not appear black. The same situation exists with the ATAT drivers (I had one). The armor and helmet were grey but due to lighting appear white on screen.

These are better than I got by trying to take pics of the scenes using my phone. We see the final shape of the pad inside and the strap. The goggle strap goes under the TU and below it, so a part of it is physically trapped like the Mudtrooper is. I have like 6 of this style helmet and the only one with clips is Veers. The brass strip clips I made really help hold the strap in place. The others have glue on the backside because they will just fall off just putting the helmet on. -

Fraser noted that when he was dressed on set the chincups had fallen apart being very thinly cast, and that the shinguards were all damaged. All of us with those know how the knees break, and we feel the rear guard action of the Aldhani troopers didnt need the security and personal protection aspect of a security trooper doing crowd control. -

Sean I believe you are right, we had some evidence that there was something like 2 sided mounting tape on the goggle strap showing on the Aldhani troopers. The back of the Rix Road trooper definitely slides up. We know from Fraser on set that the goggles were at least mounted to the front, if not cast in place. The lenses in the black Rix Road troopers seem to have their lenses which were partially lost by the time they were repainted for Aldhani. My Army goggles slide all over the place, its just a factor of a goggle and a strap on smooth surface and nothing to grip. Even if they were mounted it would not take much to knock them loose, and that fall to the ground during the fight would defnitely do it. You can even see the color of the lens here. We have the green troopers set to grey webbing for the strap. I have to wonder if this strap is the same strap, mounted internally with no changes, and appears darker due to film lighting differences. -

We will be doing one thing at a time, starting at the top. All parts and versions will be covered, when it is time. We will not be skipping ahead, or getting out of place. This is Spec Ops, and things are done methodically. We will hold the discussion for the helmet open until we are satisfied that it is complete and correct. What discussion is there of the helmet, the current CRL topic?
